oh i did not realise the waiting list could be so short. i will speak to my gp, although i do not hold out much hope. i think they tend to treat people that are 25 stone plus, bmi of 60 plus. i think my bmi is 45 so i am getting there!!

you two already have a great gift in life..children. i am still unable to conceive. hoping weight loss will help although i have bad endometriosis so may be infertile. i plan to adopt now and want to be thinner so i can be active with the children i adopt and set them a good example

i think the best example you can set your daughter is to be strong, to take control of your life, to care about your health, to show her how better life is as an active person, to show her how improved self esteem can improve your life
its a balancing act but taking control i think tips the balance. why not watch toots and i go through the process over the next few weeks and let that help you decide. good luck xxxxxx

hi
i'm 35 and need to lose 8 or 9 stone. i have never been really unhappy being fat but the last couple of stone i put on is just too much for me. i have been thinking about it for a few months, looked for a dr and a good hospital near me and went to see him. he booked me in on the spot, said i had ovbviously looked into it a lot and knew what i was doing etc. i am having it done privately via credit card! its a wopping £8k. expensive but hopefully worth it. what about you? I have not made nhs enquiries but presume there is a massive waiting list for years etc. am i wrong??

thanks imwiththe band. it is a hard decision, no doubt. i am still slkightly unsure even though its booked, just worried about the horror stories i see about it not working well for some people and the restriction failing etc. anyway, i am determined to press ahead. keep us posted with how you are doing in the decision making process

that is great meeting someone who has lost 85%. i just cannot understand all the literature that says we can only expect to lose 50% of our excess weight when the restriction is permanent. i would have thought we would continue to lose until we are thin.

well what i can tell you with reasonable confidence toots is that keyhole surgery is no big deal. i understand why you would be so scared if you have not had surgery before but as an experienced key holer (6 surgerys endometriosis and knee probs after car accident) it will be nowhere near as bad as you imagine. the worse bit is going down to theatre get tearful and wonder if you will wake up but you remember nothing and wake up in the room and all is fine.
do you not have to do the liquid diet then? that is the bit that really gets to me. also, how much has your dr said you can expect to lose?

hey
i am a new member and 15 sept bander. we can all be scared together,.
-
yes, i do. a 2 week liquid diet broth and bovril..gross. it will be soooo hard. how many stones do you want to lose to get to your ideal weight?

hi
i am new to this site and am really quite shocked to read a member being so callous as to quote someone's weight loss over a certain period in a derogatory way. this site is for support and encouragement. 40 ibs is still a good weight loss. keep up the good work.

Hi everyone
I'm new and am having my band fitted on 15 September. Would love to hear from anyone having it done around the same time so we can share horror/happy stories.
I am really scared = am really worried about the 2 week liquid diet. how can anyone stick to just liquid for 2 weeks??!! Am also really confused about how much weight I can expect to lose. All the literature says lap banders lose about 50% of their excess weight but i cannot see how you do not continue losing weight until you reach a thin size given the significantly limited amount of food you can eat. can anyone help me??
thanks

Hi toots2
I am from the UK and am being banded on 15 September so we can go through this together. I am a big rubbish at these forums, not very experienced on them so find it hard to find a message from someone the next time i log on. hope you get this. would be good to have someone from the uk to talk to. i am really scared about it - the 2 week liquid diet, the scars, worrying that the band might not work for me etc.,
love kelly5bellies
