Beating myself up :(
BabySheldon replied to bellaaa_vita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for explaining that ....this is really an outstanding way to allow yourself a structured sense of eating.... I would really like to incorporate something like this into my eating plan ....right now I'm at that phase where I'm at very close to goal and dying to get from weight loss to maintenance ....so I need to have some type of a structured transition and I tend to do better when I have a set of rules to live by.... I don't believe that I'm well enough to be allowed to make my own food choices without some type of guidelines..... I know better than to think that I'm able to do that at this point .....I've also noticed that I can eat a lot more food and that scares me to death, so something like this that allows permission for some indulgence is really really good for me thank you so much for sharing....you Rock!!!!!! I really like what you have said here....did you establish these parameters before, during or after you hit your goal? I like the idea. Thx, Shel -

I agree with everything that everyone else has said ....my only two cents is, if you're going to indulge yourself, girl don't indulge yourself on something painful and upset your little tummy....do something that you enjoy and do it get it over with be done and move on.. Congrats on your weight-loss to date! Shel -
Almost a year Post-Op and I could use some help and advice
BabySheldon replied to nsantoro126's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone here is spot on....too many carbohydrates ......carbs carbs carbs carbs,...too many. Let's be honest.... carbohydrates that are consumed can usually be comprised of junk food, chips, crackers, pretzels, Cookies, cake , candy or you might be someone who eats a lot of Pasta or someone who eat a lot of bread but either way these things cannot be main components of our diet anymore...... they are show stoppers .....you have to get that under control.... the other problem with carbs is they make you crave more carbohydrates .....it's in the same vicious cycle before your surgery..... nothing has changed in that regard .....please lower your carbohydrate intake down considerably and drink plenty of fluids.... You got this...reign this pony in now! Shel -

2 days out and hungry
BabySheldon replied to Missviscious's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my dear, you're struggling from the worst head game that you've ever been involved with .....you still want food and your brain is still presurgery.....you cannot have crackers too soon ....you will be miserable ....work very very very very hard to continue to taking your clear fluids that'll help so you and follow your doctor's orders...... the head hunger games are brutal and like a demon .....but don't let it defeat you.... you can be strong I promise...... it will go away.. And after you have started to lose some weight and start getting into a routine and you understand how your little tummy works you will be able to eat good healthy regular food with no problem .....food is coming back.... Shel -
The first problem is that your thinking into terms of traditional dieting ......this is not traditional dieting and with traditional dieting it's calories in calories out ,versus how many calories are expended ......this is entirely different .....you're not going to be able to eat the amount of calories that you would do under a traditional setting (not in the beginning usually) so follow your protein goals your fluids are number one priority ....sugar-free fluids to keep you hydrated...... 60 to 80 g of protein to keep you healthy and healing property ......please put the issue of calories on the table for right now ....that won't come into play until likely you're either in a stall or heading into goal or maintenance....as always, follow the instructions of your medical team... Good luck, Shelby

Motion sickness....this is a matter or issue of the inner ear, not the stomach ....so if you didn't have it before you're likely not to have it now. Shel

Oh sweetheart you're going through a lot .....graduate school is it's own nightmare if you will .....but compound that by trying to support a family and having a spouse it's also in school that's a lot to tackle all at once..... and trying to tackle your health.....***** Lynn**** really should be your number one priority .....from what you described though, it sounds like when you chose to do the surgery you still had not prioritized yourself as number one..... You had the surgery and then immediately went back to graduate school with a spouse that's already in graduate school...... that is a lot to contend with .....and to try and support yourself your new learning and his or her new learning .......and then be faced with an unexpected tragedy of such a monumental nature ....... please don't beat yourself up ......you are not a failure....... these events are not your fault and these are problems you did not cause ......you have to prioritize what's most important in your life right now .....you do need to take out time to grieve for your mother ......your mother was your mother was clearly a very important part of your life..... maybe try putting yourself first and if that means finishing up grad school and not taking another semester and maybe that's what you should do ....especially with the spouse that's also in graduate school... ****Lynn**** has to be number one ......your health has to be the primary .....focus on your education will always be available to you but you have to take time out for you so that you can cleanse and repair your body mind and soul ... and read initiate your weight-loss by putting first making better food choices and monitoring what you are eating .....getting your Protein in and cutting back on carbohydrates and trying to remember why you started this journey .....please remember that you are worth it .....your valued and you are loved incredibly by your family...... you can do this Lynn, and you are making your mother very very very proud... good luck honey. 3 days post-op - can only drink warm liquids
BabySheldon replied to livingmore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I discovered way too late in the game that my little tummy did not like cold or room temperature Water .....I struggled and struggled and struggled to try and get my intake in and I was not able to do so and ended up in the hospital for dehydration..... so everything that people are describing here is 100% accurate..... if I had known early on that heating my water would have made my tummy tolerated better I probably would not have gotten dehydrated .....today I am six months out and I am fully hydrated ......I drink over 90 ounces a day but it's all warm fluids..... I still cannot tolerate room temperature or cold fluids .......ironically I tolerate ice cream very well...... go figure..... Shelby -
Wish I had bypass instead of sleeve!
BabySheldon replied to re14768's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you're feeling disappointed about your results....... I think that you've identified the problem when you state you don't know if you're eating too much..... tracking your food and understanding your nutrition intake is a big part of being successful so if you don't know how many calories you're consuming ....how many Proteins, how many carbs , how many fluids of Water and how much exercise you're doing, that should be far more disappointing than your weight-loss... shake up your game plan and start being more accountable. You own this tool now, so make it work! You can do this... Shel -

Newborn Tummy that's very disagreeable .....like I tell other sleever's, remember that your tummy is brand-new it's like it was just born and it's a five week old newborn ......and it's irritated and it's hungry but when you feed it it doesn't like it ......it's all normal .....anything that is abnormal your medical team should address and if you are not getting your proper nutrition because of the behavior of your new tummy the medical team should absolutely be involved ....good luck... Monster in my belly?
BabySheldon replied to Q2theT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey sweetheart..... welcome to the losers bench .....your tummy is like a newborn baby ....if you think of it like that because that's exactly how it behaves it won't seem a strange ....it is going to be very very noisy sensitive and highly disagreeable..... You are in the extremely early stages of this process and it's very very sensitive .....it is important that you follow your doctor's orders and continue to feed your baby Tummy and take tiny tiny sips one right after the another based on how your tummy tolerate it.....three months from now you won't even remember this drama.....good luck.... Shelby -
Why i braved this surgery
BabySheldon replied to AR40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The problem with kids is that kids will be kids.... if your son was a normal weight, I promise ....the other children would find something to tease him about ....it's the age and the stage ....the challenge is that being overweight is whats makes him an easy target .....it's the type of thing that he cannot hide .....if you teach your son how to cope and love himself he will be emotionally prepared for all the different stages of bullying because ultimately he's going to face it all his life..... Just my two cents - Twin Mom Here! Shelby -
Hi I'm six-month out and just went through this.... I took an Iron capsule and it turned sideways and got stuck.... the next morning I felt like I had something still stuck in my throat. I called my nurse and she told me that the pill was not stuck anymore... she said when it got stuck it irritated my esophagus and it caused me to have indigestion so she told me to take a fast acting PPI...She said that the irritation on the lining of my esophagus caused me to have instant gastric acid that acid feels like food that stuck on the side of your throat down towards the bottom of your chest.... when I got to work I did exactly what she told me and took some Zantac I felt better instantly..... how do you know when you are Full?
BabySheldon replied to kappy1418's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The best advice I got in relation to how much food to eat was in several books for gastric sleeve patients..... and the directions said to eat until satisfied, not full..... that is a rule that I used from day one .....so I eat until I am satisfied and then I stop and push my food away....this prevents overheating and I prevent even trying to determine if I'm stuffed or not.... Shelby -
Fantastic weight loss..... that is outstanding ....clearly you are dedicated and determined ...great job! Shel

Loving the Fage plain...18 grams of Protein with 100 tiny calories....oh yes!!!!!! Shel -
I really wanted to be the first patient in the morning with my doctor .....but I ended up being the third patient because he had to do two complicated lap band revisions in front of me .....and when he came in the room to see me before I went into the operating room he said to me "oh good now my easy patient" - I do think the more complex patients are handled first.
