How long before you can go back to work after VSG?
kyleebean replied to Sasha287's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will be out a full 6 weeks. I had a really rough surgery (revision) and my recovery was difficult. My Dr. wanted me to have minimal stress and really master the rules for sleeve living. -
November sleevers! 6 weeks out and feeling discouraged!
kyleebean replied to Alisa11/18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will be 5 weeks out on Wednesday and have had a fast weight loss, but I started at a really high weight. I still get discouraged because I have so far to go. The holidays were tough, especially when everything seems to revolve around food! -
Is this kind of pain/pressure normal?
kyleebean replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
call the dr. but my guess is it's more acid reflux. Are you taking Prilosec or something to help with that? -
Freaked out by a stumble and I need to pull myself back up
kyleebean posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm four weeks out today and the past two days have been difficult. We hosted Christmas eve last night and while I could have done way worse than I did, I still feel guilty. I had a small amount of mashed potatoes with Italian beef, a couple of crackers with cheese, a bite of a cookie and a bite of apple pie. And today, I have had the same thing plus 2 skinny cow wafer bars...... I'm scared this little indulgence is going to set me off on a binge of sorts. I'm with my family now and they are ordering Chinese for dinner (my partner's Jewish so I guess it's tradition for her and our daughter). I'm angry I can't participate with them.... and I don't even really like Chinese food... I don't know, I think I'm feeling sorry for myself and a little disappointed I wasn't able to resist everything. -
Freaked out by a stumble and I need to pull myself back up

Thank you for your replies..... I have been down this road when I had the lapband and did well, until the band made it impossible to eat anything. I am trying to build the new "good habits". It's just hard. Most of the time I am good at passing up things I want. I guess I was just giving myself permission to have a few things that weren't the best choices because it's the holidays. I KNOW there is always going to be something or another to rationalize bad behavior...... OMG, my therapist voice is coming out. I guess I need to use the same strategies I ask clients to do to avoid temptation over their addictions.... -
Lap Band Revision To A Sleeve - Anyone?
kyleebean replied to 5Towner's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am four weeks out from having a revision. I had my lapband placed in 2005 and it was slipped and I had an infection around where the band was. Since the revision, I've lost 38 pounds..... -
For those of you who had a drain....
kyleebean replied to Noor1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a drain and to be honest it was more a nuisance than painful. You have to be careful not to pull on it. I pinned mine to the inside of my gown. It didn't hurt at all when it was removed. They did the removal right in my hospital room. It felt weird but didn't hurt. -
I also had nausea but it was heartburn so Dr said to take Prilosec and it went away.

I am 4 weeks post op today and I have had dizzy spells since about week 2. They happen when I get up from a seated position or out of bed. My blood pressure was too low and blood pressure meds had to be decreased and now eliminated.
-
Are you checking your blood sugar or are you assuming it is low? I ask only because I was getting dizzy and lightheaded and it turned out to be that my blood pressure was actually too low.... Dr. decreased and then eliminated my blood pressure meds.

Peanut butter ok?
kyleebean replied to onedaycloser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a teaspoon of PB mixed with greek yogurt and I was in the bathroom all night. -
I started bleeding at day 3 post op and I too had already had my period a couple weeks before. ~ Lucky me~ The Dr. said this happens a lot to women because of the hormone shifts. Mine lasted way longer than normal but there isn't anything to be concerned about.

almost 3 weeks post op sleeve
kyleebean replied to missaann's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on the 27th of November and am doing pretty good. I did have a lot of what I thought was nausea but was really heart burn and taking Prilosec every morning has helped. I've advanced my diet from pureed to "mushy" and I tolerate it well. I also tolerate liquids really well and haven't had any issue getting them in. Have you tried an antacid? -
I had a conversion from a very bad, bad lap band to sleeve gastrectomy on 11/27/13 (the day before thanksgiving). This was one of the most painful procedures I have ever had (Including an open spleenectomy and giving birth to my 11 pound daughter) My Dr. said I had a ton of scar tissue and it took them 2 hours just to root around the scar tissue to remove the band. When they removed the band, he said there was a lot of inflammation and it appeared my body was having a bad reaction to the band being placed in the first place. I had a lot of pain and discomfort and wasn't actually able to drink anything until the third day in the hospital because my esophagus and stomach were so inflamed. Then I caught pneumonia. After antibiotics were started and a lot of loving care from my partner and daughter I was able to go home on 12/1/13. As of right now, I'm in minimal pain and only at night when trying to sleep. But I'm nauseous all the time and nothing tastes right. Starting yesterday I started crying for no apparent reason and that has continued into today. I'm not sure what to make of my emotions and am wondering if they are normal? On a positive note, I am down 30 pounds (if you include the 8 I gained having surgery from all the IV's) and I am thrilled about that.

How Long Have You Been Banded And If No Longer Banded Why Not
kyleebean replied to Pablo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in 2005 and lost 100 pounds. However, I gained most of it back due to such bad vomiting and reflux. My band was too tight and there was a slip that wasn't diagnosed until 2011. Accessing my port was difficult because it flipped and was at an awkward angle. My doctor kept insisting the restriction was where it should be even though I couldn't eat "normal" food. I got a new doctor in 2011 at a different facility. He ordered an Upper GI that showed there was WAY to much restriction and removed some of the Fluid. Eventually all the fluid needed to be removed and I was still having horrible reflux and difficulty eating. I was revised to Gastric Sleeve on 11/27/13 and my Dr. said the band caused an infection in my stomach tissue and it appeared my body was having an adverse reaction to it. I am so happy to be rid of that band because I was so miserable with it. I have to say, I think my original doctor did not do a very good job (based on what my current doctor saw when doing the surgery) with the surgery or the after care. If I could do it over again, I would never have gone to him and I would have never had the band..... I would have opted for something different. But this is just my experience, I know some people love their band. It just didn't work for my body. -
After-surgery depression
kyleebean replied to itsnevertoolate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG>... My surgery was 3 weeks ago today and I had a really rough surgery and recovery. (I was in the hospital for 4 days) When I got home, I balled my eyes out for a few days and thought I must be losing my mind. I did call my dr. because I have always struggled with depression (and am on meds) and he said it was perfectly normal and a lot of patients experience this. He also said it effects women of child bearing age more because it shifts the hormones in your body. It did get better.... be patient and lean on your supports. -
Please contact your Dr. right away about your bruising. This could be a really scary issue that can be diagnosed by blood work. My guess is your platelet count is low.... I had this happen when I was in my early 20's and nearly died. I had to have my spleen removed to rectify the issue.

I'm 15 days post lapband revision to sleeve. I'm not in any more pain so I'm not on any pain medication. However, I cannot sleep at night. I already take a sleeping pill and anxiety pill but nothing is helping. Anyone else experiencing this? Suggestions?

You know, if you have feelings for her, be honest and let her know! Girl, you only get one life and WLS isn't the answer to everything~ BUT, if you want to go slow, explain this to her and let her know your hesitation. You may need to show your vulnerability but it will likely make you feel better and she will likely appreciate knowing where you are coming from. I've been in your situation, I had lap band surgery in 2005 and had a major weight loss (100lbs) and then slowly gained it back. Then in 2011, broke up with my SO of 10 years. I thought it was going to take forever to heal my heart after that. I have been in a relationship for the past 2 years and just recently had my band revised to gastric sleeve.

Anyone struggling with Insomnia
kyleebean replied to kyleebean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I CANNOT stand this. It's making me so moody and I'm so tired. I am only 2 weeks post op (from a really difficult surgery) Things are still a little tender and I have to take it easy. Walking is my only option but I live in Wisconsin and its been like 5 degrees the past two days. I did go to the gym and walk about 20 minutes on the treadmill but then I was wiped..... Would have thought I could have slept, but no. -
3 days post out.. Cannot keep anything down. Please let e if this normal.
kyleebean replied to Carlotta1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had the revision from band to sleeve on 11/27 and felt like you for about 3 days. I had really bad swelling. Has your doctor ordered an upper GI to see if there is swelling? If that's the issue, you have to let the swelling subside.... I needed an IV to keep from becoming dehydrated but then the swelling went away, -
I can't help but relate... I just had my band removed and the sleeve revision on 11/27/13. Aside from the pain from the ton of scar tissue and a band that was infecting my stomach, I am feeling pretty good today. I am scared of failing too....So far, (albeit only two weeks) I'm 30 pounds down. It took my more than 6 months to lose that with the lap band. totally different mind set.
