I just discovered this site yesterday and I'm very impressed with the amount of information there is. I was banded on May 17, 207 and including pre-op weight loss I am down 60 lbs:clap2:. Ask me if I'm happy about my band. :bounce: I am from Ottawa however, I had my procedure done in Toronto. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there from the Ottawa area.

I will try to be there on Thursday, we are in the process of building a house and my evenings lately have been taken up by clearing land. -
Good luck I'm sure you will be very successful
-
Welcome Kate, the support of friends, family and other bandsters is the reason I have been successful so far.
-
I will be there on Saturday, and I want to congratulate you on your success, I was so excited when I went from 5x to 3x to 1x and now I am in size 18, I have even bought some pants that were on sale size 16 and 14 that I know that I will fit into very soon. My goal is to be below 200 by April 9, 2008 when we leave for Cuba.

Congratulation, on your birthday and also on your decision to be banded. I also turned 50 this year and one of deciding factors for me is I do it now or never, this has been best year in a long time, I feel 10 years younger.

I was glad that the TLBC referred me to him it made things a lot simpler for me. The unfortunate part is they only referred me after I had an issue with a fill that I had done in Toronto and had already returned home, if I had known I could have saved myself 2 vacation days and 3 return flights to Toronto. But I think that I am at my comfort level, so hopefully I won't have to go back. I'm also glad I was able to refer him to a couple of others on this forum.

Yes there a few of us from the Ottawa area, there is a thread which has a lot us speaking there -
I was banded in May and I have given up on bread, toast I can take but a nice slice of warm home made bread is a thing of the past for me.
-
when I called it was only a matter of a couple of weeks
-
I also heard that by drinking carbonated drinks causes gas and difficulty is keeping food down. The TLBC recommended staying away for good.
-
I've had a fill and a defill from Dr. Gutaskas and it took 30 seconds everything went well, I would recommend it.
-
The 16,000 covers the fills, post op and if something goes wrong with the band that is also covered.
-
He is a surgeon at the Queensway Carleton Hospital
-
Chris have you had your first fill, and if so how did it go.
-
I have just one more thing to say about the TLBC they don't charge for fills, and I understand other clinics do.
-
I was banded at the TLBC on May 17, 2007 and in my opinion they are the best, I experienced no pain what so ever. They were able to refer me to a Doctor here in Ottawa for my fills if I choose to. It was the best decision that I have ever made. So I have lost 88 lbs how can anyone argue with those results. Love my band and the TLBC for making it happen.

There is another doctor in Ottawa that does do fills, His name is Dr Josee Gustaukas. He is located at 107-770 Broadview Avenue (613) 725-9180. I was banded in Toronto in May and did have a fill with him back in August. He charges 75.00 for each fill. As of yesterday I am down by 88lbs. Got to love that band.:clap2::whoo:
-
I would be interested, however, lunch during the week would be hard for me. I work downtown.
-
I would be interested in joining the Ottawa support group. I was banded on May 17, 2007 and so far I am down 71.5 lbs. ask me if I am happy. I went shopping last week and was to fit into a X size in stead of a 5X. I love my band.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Schemgie replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 50, 5'3" tall and was banded on May 17, 2007 and so far I have lost 65 lbs. -
I'm not much of a gambler but a white water rafting tour would be awesome. I did that once which seems like a life time ago. Here is Ottawa Canada there aren't many of us that have been banded but I hope that will change soon, so the support I get here is very much appreciated. Another question, how do I get a ticker preop: 327.5 op. day: 311.5 current: 265. I love my band
