I had an accident and can't exercise until at least February. I am so close to my goal and so afraid of gaining 20 pounds before then. Anyone have any tips or help?

Maybe you should eat a piece of string cheese (or half) before bed. That usually satisfies me for a long time!

Question from a banded woman's husband...
Fauxnaif replied to azgunslinger's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has she been to a medical doctor for her depression? Seems like that's what it is to me. Some anti-depressants might help. I was a lot like your wife before I got my band and really got therapy and meds. They helped me. -
How much can you eat.....
Fauxnaif replied to cher3150's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on the food of course. Good solid food-maybe 1/2 c. to 1 c. -
Welcome and congratulations on your decision. The band is a great tool that can be really, really helpful.

Tell yourself that although you won't be able to eat much, you can eat almost any food in a small amount and with proper chewing. There's probably nothing (or almost nothing) off limits the rest of your life. You are not depriving yourself. Also, I have to tell myself "This is not the last dessert on earth" or "I will get to eat cheesecake another time," etc. if I am already full but still want to eat. Buy a journal to write in because you are going to have all kinds of feelings come up. Exercise from the start (as soon as okayed by your doc) even if it's just 5 minutes a day. You will thank yourself later. I would probably stay upstairs during the party myself. Congratulations on your approaching band!

I was glad to hear this because I am tall and I was thinking how will I get my waist so small but now I only have to get it below 35. That's doable. I'm glad he clarified that on the last show.

I recommend Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Acuna, Mexico. It's not too far from San Antonio. www.joseband.com

I think I'd stop beating a dead horse and find another doctor. Good luck with this.

Family thinks my surgery will "ruin" Christmas

Wow. There concern is overwhelming. You'll probably feel fine by a week after surgery. You won't need help with everything. However, my first thought was "screw 'em!" -
Pregnant with the lap band!
Fauxnaif replied to Frisky's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
My band was fairly loose when I got pregant. I didn't unfill it either. I had no problem gaining 25 pounds or so. My biggest piece of advice is if you need a fill to lose the baby weight, don't wait too long to get it. I waited too long and gained more (since lost). Congratulations! -
Taking Prescription Medicine with the Band
Fauxnaif replied to reagansmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've never had any problems taking medication after the band and I do take meds every day. But I've never really been super-tight either. -
I really did it for mobility. I was 30ish and couldn't get around at all very well. Now it has improved my health and I do look better.

Sounds like the VBG (vertical banded gastrectomy?). That surgery had a lot of regain.

Did you meet your wl goals
Fauxnaif replied to itsuptome's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm several pounds below my personal goal. My BMI is now about 26.5ish. Now I want to lose another 10-12 pounds or so. That would put me at a "normal healthy" BMI. -

Yes you will be absolutely SHOCKED at how much of your time and energy is freed up when you aren't obsessing about food and your weight. I started running. Now my time is filled with reading about running, planning runs, finding events, etc. My goal is to run a whole 5k, then a 10k, etc. I also started embroidery. It's easy. Here's a good list of hobbies. Maybe you haven't thought of some of these before. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hobbies As someone said, life will not be perfect after weight loss. But I want to add that whatever happens to you, you will feel more confident and have more energy to meet the challenge.

If this is for a lifetime how often do you have to go to the Dr
Fauxnaif replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been to the doc for fills 4 times in 4 1/2 years. Not bad. -
The thing that gets me going is turning up the radio or using my exercise playlist on my Ipod. Motivating and fun!

What do you say when you get THAT question??
Fauxnaif replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Eating less, exercising more, more fruits and vegetables, less meat. -
Congratulations on your wonderful progress!!! You're an inspiration.

Yes they are pretty bad. Shoot, for that many calories, I can eat half a piece of pie anyway! I actually think the chocolate ones taste good but if you make your own Protein smoothies you can get much more volume by adding more ice, etc. That is much more filling. I stay away from Slimfast since it takes me about 30 seconds to drink the whole thing and that's a lot of calories for 30 seconds. And, when it comes to protein, they stink. Not much at all. Even the high protein ones. I can get 20-30 g of protein with my Protein Powder and milk.
