Help! Real food - portion sizes

In the past, I have eaten about 1/2 cup. Now I don't have as much restriction (which I like) and I am eating about 1 cup of food at each meal and still losing.
  2. Don't feel guilty. The food is poison to us if we eat more than we need!
  3. 1. Deal with your emotional issues-in therapy or wherever. But if you don't, you won't ever lose weight and keep it off. 2. Just surrender to the band. You can't eat like you used to; there's no use trying. 3. Get a life. Don't obsess about weightloss. Live your life. Get some hobbies because you need something to fill your time and mind since you won't be eating so much. 4. Have patience. This is a journey of years; not months. 5. Plan your food in advance. This helps me. 6. Keep track of your food on www.fitday.com or a similar site.

    No appetite

It sounds like food isn't controlling your life like it often does with overweight people! I would be rejoicing, too!

    Band lost its glow?

I hear ya! I don't know how to get back on the wagon; I am pretty much sabotaging myself. I think it has to do with getting close to goal. I've lost 110 lbs.:clap2: and have about 30 to go. I know I've never been a normal weight as an adult so fear has a lot to do with it for me. No suggestions really, other than get a fill if you think you need it. Just some emphathy. (BTW, I am 4 years out in a month. I did take off a year and half to have a baby so it's not as bad as it seems!)

A certain brand? Where can a person get these? A health food store?

    Unethical bandsters?

Well, some of us who have the band already did have to pay for it ourselves. I had a BMI of 47 and had to self-pay. I am not wealthy and it involved a huge sacrifice on my part. I do not begrudge anyone who genuinely qualifies for having the band, but I am a bit jealous of people whose insurance paid. And, you can sugar coat all you want, but it IS fraud for someone to lie or fudge to try to get the band. This kind of crap is probably why my insurance wouldn't pay. I have had enough run around with insurance companies (try getting treatment for mental illness-they make it so hard so a person will just give up!) to know that it is tempting to lie. But the other insured people are the ones who are paying for your indulgence. Do you really think the insurance companies are going to cut into their profits? No, they will just reduce coverage in the future!

    Is it too late now?

You can always start losing again. That's the beauty of the band. I have.
  10. I woke up from band surgery sooooooooooooooooooo hungry!!! I eventually went on to lose at least 60 pounds before I got a fill so I did okay! But it seems like not too many people talk about being hungry right after surgery!
  11. I don't think it's weird at all. I am thankful that there is such technology. I am really, really in favor of medical treatment when warranted. Lots of people have lots of implants.

    regrets

No! Even though I am frustrated at not having lost my last 30ish pounds, I have lost over 100 and kept it off for 4 years. That would have never happened without the band. This last amount of weight is up to me and I am working on the emotional aspects of it.
  13. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE every single thing from McDonalds!!!! It is disgusting. It really makes me scratch my head when I go to a malls and the lines are so long for McDonald's! People could choose great Vietnamese food, sandwiches, Middle Eastern food, Mexican food, etc. But they choose that crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ghetto, as my students say!

Still have to "work" HARD after lapband???

Yes, you do still have to work hard. Trust me. Losing the first 80 pounds was easy, the next 30 was more difficult and I still want to lose about 20-25 more and haven't been too successful with it since I haven't been willing to diet or exercise. Anyone who tells you it is easy, either is not very far out or not close to goal-or both. Edited to say that there are the lucky few (1% maybe) who do lose all their weight easily with the band. Oh, to be one of them!
  15. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........
  16. $100 is cheap. I live in Houston. I used to go to Dallas and pay $350 for fills then those docs stopped accepting the patients of Mexican docs. Now I go back to Acuna, Mexico and get my band doc to fill me for $50. The whole weekend trip always costs less than $300. Good luck!

Dr Jose Rodriguez In Acuna, Mx

I was banded by Dr. Rodriguez. It was a great experience. For lots of info, you should joing his yahoo group. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Dr-Rodriguez-bandsters/ They can answer lots of questions. As long as you know the Spanish words for pain, etc. you'll be fine!
  18. I saw that someone posted this earlier in another thread. Anyone who believes this is deluding him or herself. It is simply not true. Not only do you have to deal with the genetics of how much fat you are likely to store, but also of where you store it. Then you must account for frame size. There are limits on how thin we can get. Especially since the band has no malabsorption component. I know lots of bandsters think that they can just get fills indefinitely until they get as small as they want. I used to think this too. But there are side effects to tight fills, such as not being able to eat solid food and reflux. Take it from a person who has been banded almost 4 years. I'm not saying we can't get to a normal weight (BMI in the 25-27 range or so, being able to shop in normal clothes sections); I think most of us can. But to state that we can get as thin as we want is simply inaccurate and believing it is just setting oneself up for failure.
  19. I still want to lose at least 30 pounds more. I will definitely need plastic surgery-tummy tuck, thigh lift, arms, boob lift. The only one I will probably do though is the tummy tuck because of money and I'll be lucky to afford that.

Are you aiming for a bikini bod?

At my height and body frame, a 10-12 would definitely not be embarassing. I would probably wear a medium and be great with that! I wonder if it meant to come across as "why do it if you can't get a very thin body?" That's how it seems that poster feels. There are so many other benefits to the band. Also, in order to look super-great in a bathing suit, I would need a breast lift, tummy tuck, thigh lift and my arms done. I am NOT willing to have that many plastic surgeries-although I do plan on a tummy tuck.

    lap band LONG TERM

I have got to say AMEN to this post. Coming up on 4 years for me this summer. I feel exactly the same way as NewSho. I don't know if it is just a matter of learning different habits either. Oh well, here's hoping that if something happens to my band I can find the money to self-pay AGAIN.
  22. I take Wellbutrin. Don't crush it. Try taking it later in the day when your band is looser.

what time do u stope eating at night?

It's better for me! If I stop eating at 7 I won't get reflux. If I don't, I am almost certainly going to get reflux. Yucky horrible reflux!
