  1. Too early for me. But yours hit home. Getting to the point when I can eat something and not be judged for eating what I shouldn't. It will be great to be a normal sized person and just enjoying a treat and not trying to hide.

3 Weeks Out. What Were U Eating?

I am in my third week. I started purées Friday evening. I am eating 2Tb. So far breakfast has been half a baby bel cheese wedge, lunch 2Tb humus, and dinner last night was 2Tb refried beans.

    Cheated?

Never!!! I never once was tempted to cheat. And I don't plan on it. I started purées last night. I will follow my plan to a T. I didn't go through this surgery just to sabotage my recovery.

    I need some advice.

I was sleeved dec 19th, I've lost 9 lbs since surgery. But I lost 24 lbs required weight loss and 16 lbs 2 week liquid pre-op. So in all I've lost 49 lbs since sept. I have to remind myself that when I see the low numbers since surgery and others like yourself have lost more. Most important thing I've read over and over, is not to compare yourself with others.

    Sex after surgery

I've been wondering this too. I'm 12 days out. Husband says we have to continue waiting so he doesn't hurt me. It's getting harder and harder to wait.

    sleep?

I was also sleeved on the 19th. I have been doing same thing- staying awake till all hours of the night, including one 4am. However, last night I went to sleep fairly early and slept till my alarm when off at 7:15. The past two days I have been very busy, was on my feet most all day yesterday decorating then hosting a bday party. I believe the increased "exercise" helped me to sleep better last night.

    Im a cheater...am i screwed?

If you can't make it through the preop diet, how will you do it postop? I hope you sit and really think and make sure you are ready for this surgery. Best of luck to you.

    Lost 40 pounds

I've lost 45lbs and still wearing same clothes. My shirts are fitting better (use to stretch out Tshirts before putting on and today I didn't have to) I have a lot more to go before needing new size I think.
  11. Sitting in the hospital waiting room, waiting to be called. See y'all on the other side!

To eat or not to eat

I will still be on liquids day 9. (Two weeks liquids) Id focus on water and protein shakes.
  14. You do not need towel, cloth and soap. All that is provided. Besides, I wasn't allowed to shower until two days after surgery and I was home then. I brought a robe. You will be walking the hallways. Some are fine with tying gown tight, but I wanted more coverage.

    Today's the day!

Sorry I am just updating this thread. Surgery went great. My time in the hospital was smooth. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Yesterday I started taking Tylenol during day and pain medicine just at night. My husband took great care of me and I was sad to see him go back to work yesterday. My kids are picking up the slack and being wonderful helpers.
  16. Glad you are feeling pretty good!

Could you eat another "meal" per day instead of upping portion size?

Having A Hard Time On Pre-Op Diet

I feel very fortunate I haven't struggled with my 2 week diet. But I prepared ahead of time. I stopped soda/caffeine in September and began having one protein shake a day. Week before my 2 weeks I dropped down to just one meal a day. When it came time to start on liquids (dec 6) I was able to no problem. I cook for my family daily. I even sit at the dinner table with them while they eat, and I drink my shake. Life goes on. We have to be mentally strong to push the desires of food away. Tomorrow I am not allowed protein shakes. Clear sugar free liquids only for surgery on Thursday. My two weeks after surgery will include three family Christmas parties and New Years. But I'm focused long term and will not grieve loss of food this holiday season.
  19. Beautifully written. You inspire me! I am 3 days away from surgery. I was 321 in sept and down to 283 now. (Required to lose 5% put me at 300, then pre-op diet) I feel we are a lot alike in our mindset, so thank you for your words. Congrats on not renewing your handicap tag!!!

    vitamins and pills

I was instructed to take chewables/liquid or crush what can be crushed for three months.
  21. Hello all! I began lurking since June 2013 when I decided to have VSG. At the first meeting with surgeon, they said I didn't have any restrictions and could have surgery ASAP. I started doing all required dr visits immediately. A few days later surgeons office called- they were wrong about no restrictions. I had to have 6 months dr visits and 5% weight loss. Not only that, I found out insurance didn't cover hospital I was using, and now have to use a surgeon that is about 2 hours away. At first I was crushed and felt defeated. I quickly gathered my thoughts and realized this was a good thing. The time allowed me to really prepare myself mentally and to have my whole family eat healthier. In sept I stopped drinking all soda. I haven't had caffeine or carbonation since then. There have been times I've craved coke, but I haven't given in. For the 5% I had to lose, that meant 16 lbs. I gained 5. So now I had to lose 21 lbs. with one month to go before my 6 months would be up, I kicked it into gear and lost 22 lbs. I finished all my requirements nov 4th. We submitted to insurance and waited. And waited. On nov 22, my case worker called to check on me. Apparently they were waiting on dr office to submit my clinical information. I called dr, they insisted they had sent it. Frustrating! On dec 2nd, I called insurance, they still did not have paperwork. I was furious. Called dr and pleaded with them to re-fax it anyhow. On Wednesday dec 4 I called insurance, they said congratulations!! You are approved, and was actually approved on Monday. Agh! I hung up with her and called dr office, left message. Didn't hear from them. Thursday I called and left another message. No return call. Friday morning I was debating on calling again, when my phone rang! They were calling to schedule surgery. They asked if I had time frame in mind, I said I will not be in hospital for Christmas. She said when can you start liquid diet? I said right now! Surgery is dec 19th. I am on a two week clear liquid diet. 600-800 calories, 80-120 G Protein. 64 oz Water. Protein shakes, water, broth, sugar free Popsicles, Jello but I don't eat it. No food whatsoever. So the day I find out surgery date, I also have a Christmas party at church I'm hosting. Food, food, and more food. I kept busy and made it through the night drinking my water. I have enjoyed reading so many posts the past 7 months. Lots of inspiration! I am looking forward to now adding input. Highest weight in sept 321 Weight yesterday before starting liquids 296.6 Let the journey begin! ~E
  22. I started preop 12/06, surgery is 12/19. I have survived one Christmas party thus far. (The day I started liquids) Have another this Sunday 12/15. I will be post op for three Christmas family gatherings and will still be on liquids for New Years. We can all do this! Just remember how good you'll feel (and look next holiday season.
  23. I am next Thursday. No fear, not scared, no anxiety. I feel excitement! I have been on liquids since last Friday. I'm keeping busy making sure I have everything ready for Christmas.
