It was a combination of the money ( half the dollars) and the fact that Ortiz, who I went with has done considerably more of these surgeries for a longer period of time than any of the Canadian docs, and is a proctor and trains other docs to do the procedure. Now that I'm back , I can say that the operative experience was good, but that the post op support is negligable. But I'm resourceful and can find support where need be...

post-op SEARING pain on right side ???
short c replied to clorox123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree _ that doesn't sound right. I was banded on wednesday and I have the not so lovely gas pains, but no muscle pain- although my whole belly is quite tight feeling. I also now can't tell what's hunger pain or gas pain.... -
Anyone know of fill docs in or near Ottawa, Canada?

I had a laproscopy 20 years ago fro something else and I was glad that they went in through the belly button. I will ask to have them do it again, because it literally is invisble....

I'm a bit nervous about the incisions and feeling sore on the plane ride home 2 days later..... also the no wine in the pre-op phase is being quite the adjsutment! I Know I'll be off it for awhile, but it si wierd as we have a glass of wine almost every day.. Time to break all kinds of old habits! Wish me luck SHort C

Let me know how that goes. I'm being banded in TJ on wednesday by Dr. Ortiz. I'm so excited/nervous......thrilled/pumped - all kinds of feelings.

I'm from Ottawa, and am going to Mx next week to have it done. I understand from my research that there is about to be a doc here who can do fills....
-
yep, mine is 36. I'm a wee bit nervous about this.... but I've spent too many years of my life not being me. I'm not telling anyone I'm doing this though, other than my H.

IS there anyone out there that has been banded for a long time? 8 , 10 years, more..... I wonder about the long term effects of having a lap band/ Does it really work to help you keep the weight off - even 10 , 20 , 30 years from now? I don't want yet another quick fix that then no longer works after a certain amount of time...... would love to hear from someone who has lived with this for a long time!

Canadian doctors? for surgery and /or fills
short c posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am in Ottawa Canada and am interested in having this done. I know of a few doctors in Toronto, and believe there may be some in MOntreal? Any in northern NY?or Vermont? DOes anyone know of anyone that does fills and aftercare in Ottawa? I am wondering about going to Mexico, but if I do there is no way that I could go there for fills how ever often that is required.... -
Another question- where do you all go for follow up care or for fills if you've had it done in Mexico? I'm in Ottawa, Canada and am just beginning to get informed. Here too the price would be $16,000.

Thanks, Chickie, The fact that you've been at goal for a year is wonderful. Are you finding it helpful staying at goal? That's my big thing. I can lose weight, ( although that's getting harder and harder) but before long it starts to creep back up, so for me nirvana would be reaching goal weight ( which I haven't been at for more than 25 years ) and STAY. HOw did you find your doc who did the procedure?
