Not feeling full at all!
raph replied to Mysticalks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a similar problem. I am 3.5 weeks since surgery, and am forcing myself to be good. I see the doctor for hopefully my first fill in 2 weeks, and just keep telling myself to ride it out. I do find that in general, my hunger is less, I am just not feeling satisfied from my meals. So after eating a small amount, i force myself to walk away. So far, this has been working for me. good luck. -
When can I Sleep on my side and/ or stomach?
raph replied to Putty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
less than a week. I turned over onto my stomach in my sleep on day 2. That hurt... by day 4, i could find a comfortable way of sleeping on my stomach with minimal pain... by 7 days, i could lie on my stomach with no real pain. Its 2 weeks now, banded on the 31st of october. I have no pain at all. -
Surgery on Wednesday and Have not stuck to diet
raph replied to Dolfan13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band is a major commitment. If you cant follow a minor commitment before banding, then you may find yourself very very unhappy after banding. I know the presurgery diet sucks, but they ask you to do it for a reason. I believe the reasoning is 50/50 psychological and physiological. That said, if you do get the band, best of luck and may it be the tool you need. -
Wondering if you need a fill or not?
raph replied to Lap_dancer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you very much for that info. Was very useful to me right now. -
Hi all, Well tomorrow is the big day, and I am nervous as all hell. Ive been on practically not eating at all for a week, because i find not eating is less horrible than eating Optifast. Another question i thought of, for those that have been recently banded, how long after surgery is it likely i will be able to lie on my stomach again? I tend to sleep on my stomach and will probably find it very difficult to get to sleep on my back. thanks for any insights

Hi, Well, nearly 2 weeks since I was banded, and so far I have lost 14Kg all up (9kg was the pre-op diet). Tonight i went out with my girlfriend and had a entree size gnocchi. I only ate half of it, and had no pain or discomfort. I took extra time to chew and ate it as slowly as I am able (something very difficult for me to do, as i normally would just wolf it down.) Now the weird part. To be absolutely honest, I havent been feeling terribly hungry at all since I have been banded. But, when eating this meal tonight, I had no sence of fullness either. I stopped eating mainly because I am feeling guilt over "cheating" rather than any feeling of satiation. Is this just because I havent been filled yet? I am worried because if i can get away with eating large amounts, I may keep doing so. Any advice appreciated. thanks, raph

had a visit this morning (before the meal that worried me..) next docs appointment is in 3 weeks.

i was banded on the 31st. My doctor has had me on mushies since the start, and I have just started slowly having real food, hence the gnocchi.

6-months Of Nutrition Counseling??
raph replied to jillybeano's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont know about this, my last diet, pre-banding, i dropped from 151kg to 98Kg in 7 months. Course then I put it back on along with another 20Kg over the next 2 years. My surgeon told me that those who have an ability to lose weight, even temporarily are more likely to have excellent success with the band. -
How will I feel after surgery
raph replied to novbeginning's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 8 post surgery here. When i first came to after surgery, the most pronounced pain was in my shoulder from the gas they use to get around your insides. Day 2 was very painful inside, and after that it just kept easing from there. I was in hospital all up for 2 days and have needed no pain medication since i left, though rolling over onto my stomach in my sleep on my first night back home wasnt pleasant. I think its a very individual thing. Personally, i tried to keep moderately active after surgery which i believe helps speed the healing process. Oh and by moderately active I mean post-surgery style... short walks around the house, sitting up more than lying down... 200 meter stroll slowly down the street. -
i hated everything about optifast. i ended up just eating a small amount of vegies and that was it. In 7 days i lost 9 kilo. Had the surgery now, and 7 days afterwards, still no appetite.

Here I stand (lie) before you, with a band of my own. Apparently there was some drama with me in theater, oxygen levels dropped, but its all good now. I feel very tender and sore, but saying that, compared to yesterday, i am feeling pretty ok. Not feeling any hunger, forcing myself to drink Water regularly and have the occasional teaspoon full of Soup. In one week, on my preop diet i lost 9kg. more soon raph

Well in 15 minutes my mum will be here (im 35 and she still insists on these things when it comes to hospitals) to drive me to hospital. Being banded at 3.30pm today. Will post about my experience when i get back from hospital in 2 or 3 days. nervous as all hell, but glad the pre-op diet phase is over!!

getting it done at the epworth in richmond (melbourne) by dr frydenberg...

my preop diet sucked... i get banded tomorrow, and ive only had to be on Optifast for a week. in all honesty, the past 3 days, ive just been living on a small amount of green salad and Water. Simply because the optifast is absolutely disgusting. Ive been taking Vitamins just to keep safe though. I found the first 3 days were the hardest, it gets a little easier after a while.

Hi All,

I am getting banded on Wednesday this week. I have been on optifast diet, which is like hell on earth really. I have been desperately craving carbs, but hey only another 2 days and then i guess i will be on liquids.

But on to my questions.

1. If drinking softdrink or the like, is burping normal? or what does occur with burping?

2. I have read that eating rice is a problem, is this all rice? Brown rice? Rice in a handroll (sushi?)

3. what sort of weight loss rate is normal? I am currently 170cm and weigh 170kg does the initial weight come off faster?

I cant actually weigh myself at home, scale only gos up to 120kg. So i have no idea if i have lost weight in the week i have been on the optifast. I must say that I find the stuff abhorrent and would almost prefer starving.

anyway, thanks for any answers.

raph

Considering a lap band. Oh and hi!
raph replied to raph's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
with the wrestling, its very very high impact. Just concerned about anything not bolted on inside me. certainly it will be a question for the doctors once i get to the point of seeing some. -
Hi all, 35 year old guy from melbourne in Australia here. Have a serious weight problem and am given to binge eating. Have dieted off and on all my life, I can lose weight but then it all comes back with a 10% bonus. Am considering getting a lap band, as i am now over 150Kg and at 5 foot 8 that is a little scary for me. I think a lap band would help me control the binging by forcing me to recognise when i am doing it, and then slow me down. I am worried about a few things though. One is that I guess I am binge eating as a way of dealing with depression or stress. I dont know what would happen if that option was taken away from me. Secondly, I have off and on been a professional wrestler as a bit of a hobby, and am wondering whether I would still be able to do that with a lap band inside me. Are there any other aussie lap banders out there? thanks, raph
