Great start Robyn.... Did you join the Summer Challenge. I find that when I set a goal and tell as many people as I can about it, I am more apt to stick with it. Also, try keeping a food journal. It's a proven fact that if you force yourself to write down everything you put in your mouth, even if it is 1 bite of cookie, you will do better. When I find myself in a rut I can go back and see where my trouble times of the day are. Then I plan an activity durring those time so I'm not around food. Example,I know I snack between 2-3 in the afternoon and after dinner. So, now I take my son to afternoon Karate at 2:30 so we are out of the house and after dinner I give my son a bath then jump on the treadmill to get rid of the urge to snack. This works for me mabey it will work for you. Any who, good luck!

Word on Dr. Spivak in Houston???
Drama Queen replied to DeeJay's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I love Dr Spivak. He and his office staff are all very experienced. They seem to really care about everyone that walks in their door. His bedside mannor is wonderful and he makes it clear that he is there to help you succeed. I had my surgery on 5-25-05 and have been in for 2 fills since then. I would highly recommend him. -
I went with Dr. Spivak in Houston. He is a great Dr with a lot of experience and a great office staff. It was $15,000 which included fills and office visits for 1 year. To ease the burden on my pocket book I financed through Cosmetic Fee Plan. His office has other financeing options as well.

Hi All... I was banded April 25th and I am down 29 pnds so far. I need to watch what I eat to make sure my food choices are healthly not just "easy" food, but I do exercise 5 out of 7 days. I did have a 3 week plataue but, I got my 2nd fill last Thursday and finally broke through. Other than that its smooth sailing. By the way, great job so far everyone.

This poor woman! After reading her story my heart is so sad for her and her family. I pray her situation will get better and someone reads her story that could really help her.

First off I want to say congrats on your weight loss and you have every reason to be proud of yourself for your accomplishment. A loss of 35 pounds is great indeed. Second, I understand what your going through. My husband felt that I was not doing a good enough job on watching the amount of food I was eating for dinner so he started weighing it for me !#@? Unfortunately I knew my DH was going to be "0" support on this but, I found support on this board and through friends. We do go to counciling and through it I am learning that I do not need him for validation of myself. Pat yourself on the back dear sister of the band because we all see what a good job your doing and sooner or later he will too.

I am currently a stay at home mom and I have recently started a bakery business that is starting to take off. In my past life I was an Interior Designer for a large firm in Houston. When my son, who is now 4 going on 14, goes to school I will most likely go back to Design because that is where my heart is.

Hi There, I live in The Woodlands and would love to meet for coffee or lunch one day. I do have a 4 year old so we I would need a little notice so he could go to his Nana's for a few hours or stay with my husband. I to am looking for a banded friend that understand what I'm going through and could share experiences. Just PM me if you want. I don't mind traveling your way.

Alatina, I know exactly what you are saying and I was banded just 2 days before you. Just to put my 2 cents in, here is how I see things. "Trust in your body and what it is telling you," that is an exact quote from my Doctor when I called him about introducing more solid things into my diet. I did the liquids and my body went haywire. Headaches, my entire body was trembling, and my vision became blurred. I called him he said move to the mushie stage, so I did. My docs mushie stage includes flakey fish, ground meats, canned meats like tuna and chicken. I did this and now feel fine but, worried about why I can still eat with ease when everyone else struggles. My point is every doctor is different with there approach on diet and sometimes they differ with each person because we are all so different. Whats good for one persons body is not always right for someone else. No one knows whats truely right for you more than your body and you. Just be very careful. I to have cravings for the old foods like pizza and burgers but, I have to just go to the nearest mirror and repeat out loud something that I read that Jack posted awhile back and again he stated it on this thread. I look in the mirror and say out lound "I WILL BEAT THIS, NOTHING TASTE AS GOOD AS BEING THIN AND HEALTHY FEELS." I repeat it as many times as I need and as loud as I feel I need to just to get it through my thick skull. Every restruant, home, and car has a mirror. Try it, you may be supprised how effective the spoken word is. I also have started keeping a food journal because I have found that it holds me more accountable for what goes in my mouth. When I get upset because I'm not losing, all I have to do is flip through the pages to see whos fault it is. Hang in there girl, you have come to far to go back to the old ways. Just remember and remind yourself often to the resons you had the band done. Your door is open to a new healthy life, you just have to learn how to walk through it. Good Luck.

I got my pedomter from Walmart for $8 and it gives step, distance, calories, and the time. They had one for $3.88 but it only gave steps.

Hi There, Everybody is different in their recovery stage. I had my band placed just this week (Monday) and I am sore but ok. But, I'm a house wife and mother of a very active 4 yr old. What my doc told me about recovery is it depends on how good of shape you are in and how easily your own body heals itself (how fast do your cuts heal). It is possible to be overweight and still have good health if you are active. Being a firefighter/paramedic I'm sure you fall into this catergory because of physical activity levels that your job demands. The best thing to do is call a surgens office and ask. I don't know where you live but, I used Dr. Hadar Spivak here in Houston and his office is open to questions even if your not a patient yet. He also has a website where you can email questions.Hope this helps!

I am not sure that I am eating enough. I'm terrrified to eat to much but I'm getting splitting headaches. My Dr food plan states liquid for the 1st 48 hours and then to mushy food for 4 weeks. I just had my surgery on Monday and the first 48 were fine. But now I feel like I'm straving (headaches, shakes, grumbling stomache). Did this happen to anyone else? Also does anyone have a good idea on how to get sleep at this point? Please help?
