Hi, I was banded Monday the 25th by Dr. Spivak. I loved him and he had great bedside mannors and didn't leave until he checked on me and the other lady that was there. His office staff was great as well.

Drama Queen replied to Tippytoes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tippytoe, Try to take a deep breath. I was banded Monday afternoon and I like you was scarred durring the last 48 hours. Matter of fact I keep myself busy cleaning house and oddball jobs around the house so I wouldn't work myself up. On Monday I was fine until I sat down in the waiting area and burst into nervous tears. Also like you I knew I was doing the right thing for me. My worst pain at this point is the gas and where they put the port. As far as the food intake goes all I've eaten since Saturday is clear liquids but, truth be known I haven't wanted anything else. Everyone is different but, I have seen stated on LBT several time that over time people eat a lot of the same old foods just less of them. Your worries are not trivial, any worry is natural you just have to reason within in yourself. Any time you need to vent come on aboard because thats what we are here for. Best wishes to you on Thursday and I hope for your speedy recovery. -
I recieved my band yesterday and even know I'm in pain I feel extactic. I have waited and researched so long that part of me thought it would never happen. I could see the door to my healthy future, with no more back pain, no more embrassment for my husband and son, no more being embrassed of myself. The problem was I could never get in. Now, I feel there is now a big neon sign above the door that say "OPEN." Last night was not easy but, I have faith that everyday will be better. The worst part is the gas so far. My husband has no problem belching 30 times an hour and the funny thing is I have never been so envious of his musical talent until today. I just keep thinking I want to do that and need to do it so bad that I just want to pinch him. Anyway I just wanted to check in with everyone and let you know I'm home.

Has anyone been banded in the US that has paid for it out of pocket?
Drama Queen replied to a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm self pay with Dr. Spivak and it is $15,000. That includes fills for the first year, hospital, doctor, the whole nine yards. Dr. Spivak is truely wonderful and you can tell he loves what he does because he truely wants to help people. He has done about 1200 lap band procedures to date and has several years experience in laproscopic surgery. If that price is to much to swallow at once you should check into Cosmetic Fee Plan through Capital One. -
I know what your talking about girl. I'm 5'3" and 235. I know your excited and want to get the ball rolling but, Princess is right. Research your Doctor very closely and find out their history and track record with the band proceedure. What state do you live in? Go to Obesityhelp.com and look your doctor up. I know nothing of Dr. Kuri but, I do know the importance of find the best possible Doctor.

Hi All, I have been lurking in the shadows for some time now and thought I should introduce myself. I also wanted to thank all of those that participate in this support group because you are such a guiding light and wealth of information. After 2 years of research and saving , I am finally going to get my band on Monday April 25th. I'm excited and scared all at once. I know though that this is the right choice for me. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and wanted to just say HI!

My procedure will cost $15,000 including fills for the first year. I really like Dr. Spivak. He is truely wonderful and extremely knowledgable. I know I'm in the best hands. I realize it would be cheaper to go to Mexico but, I just feel more comfortable in the states.

Sorry, I was having trouble figuring out my signature but, I think I have it now. I am from The Woodlands, Texas just outside of Houston. Yes, unfortunately I am self paying. My insurance has said that my policy will not cover anything to do with weight loss. I tried to fight but, they were not budging. Anyway, thank you all for the well wishes.
