Do you think there is discrimination against obese people?
gingerbug replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I answered no only because I have not been overweight for too many years and I dont have that experience that other people do. The poll was for if *I* have ever been discriminated against. If it had been my opinion if it existed my answer would be yes. -
I was approved because I had a bmi of just barely over 40. I knew this in advance and knew I was a little under that weight so I had a month to 'prepare' for my weight-in. If my bmi was 35-39 I would have had to have two comorbidities.

Hello! Keep on burping, it is better when you do!
-
Wow! I am sure that it was not a great time but that is a great story. I would have paid to see the nurse's face when she saw the radioactive pee!! LMAO
-
I was swayed by the time it takes to recover. Lapband was a faster recovery. Also, I have no problem playing my part with the band. I dont have an issue staying away from junk food I just have an issue with appetite. I felt i could be successful with the band.

Tell me about that 1st full day you were home
gingerbug posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
after the band was put on. Did you stay in bed and chill out? I have the option to seclude myself in my room while my mom takes care of the kiddos but I was wondering how bad I will feel. Well, since everyone is different, I want to know how YOU felt. LOL -
that this is working. I mean, I know it is supposed to if you play your part. However, everytime I step on the scale and lose anouther pound (like this morning) I have to remind myself that this is for real. I will never see that pound again. I try to imagine what it will be like in a year or so and I almost cant believe it. It is really hard to get used to!

I am ok with it slowing down. As long as it does not go in reverse, I am good. Oh, and I never thought I would look forward to sugar free pudding as much as I am. Seriously.
-
It would be nice to have a list of slightly smart@ss things to say to the nay-sayers who are rude about their opinions. I have no problem justifying and explaining to those who just dont understand but theere are people who are just plain rude when they realize you might actually succeed.

Yes, I also agree with Mindy - not eating ENOUGH just messes with your metabolism. I, pwersonally, have the best success if I eat at least 1400 calories but no more than 1800. Under normal circumstances I cannot eat that little but with the band, it should nto be a problem. Hang in there.

Starting phase two of liquid diet. I get to eat tomato soup and other cream soups today. I found butternut squash soup, low sodium tomato, and I made some thinned out pureed pinto beans, too. I can barely eat a cup of thinned out soup and I am full which I wasn't really expecting. I figured it would go right through. Next week: cream of wheat and soft scrambled eggs!

My husband made him and the kids chicken alfredo pizza last night. I actually contempated, for a minute, running it through a blender. I opted not to and had some low sodium tomato soup. Sure smelled good.

hmmm, breakfast. This is actually the first morning I woke up and was able to just *get* outta bed without having to think about it. Breakfast will be lowfat yogurt smoothy with some whey protien mixed in andsome special K water. TASTY. Gone are the days of eggs, bacon, toast with lotsa butter from homemade bread....

I know my body plays tricks on me. Muscle is more dense than fat so take more faith in the tape measure than the weight. It will kick in again.
-
your doctor shouldhave given you a post op diet info sheet or something. I was on clear liquids for a week including broth, water, two protien shakes ( I had to thin them out) coffee, hot tea, and diluted applae and grape juice. The second week I was able to add cream soups to that.

How do you determine goal weight?
gingerbug replied to travelchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks, Diane, for that link. Honestly, the number it gave was very realistic for me and would be easy to maintain. I am 5'11 and that website recommends I weight 194 pounds for my age. That had been on my mind lately. I know it is unrealsitic, from past experience, to get below 170-180 but it is possible. I do know that if I can get below 200 I would be very satisfied. I would be even more thrilled if I am able to maintain. -
LOL, I thought ahead and bought some unscented baby wipes. Works nice!
-
Awesome!! I am SO looking forward to being 30 pounds down. What kind of work outs do you do?

Once An Overeater, Always An Overeater
gingerbug replied to rebandit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please dont assume that your experience will, in fact, be truth for everyone. -
Dont over-analysis it. Yes, there is a potential for problem but remember that being obese hass its own set of problems. IMO, the surgury is safer. Focus the next three weeks on getting your home in order and stocking up on the things you need, catchcing up on laundry and hanging ouy with friends and the time will fly by.

Outstanding! I remember thinking the same thing when I woke up in recovery!

Painful burping & hiccups - does that go away?
gingerbug replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would really like to know this. I can live with it but it would be nice if it would go away. -
