How much weight can you really lose? How fast?
gingerbug replied to BATassbandita?'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc told me that 1-2 pounds a week is successful. I was told I would average 8-10 pounds a month at first and as I get closer, it would slow down and I would have to work harder for it. -
What is the most you've ever weighed? The least?
gingerbug replied to Gibson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Highest 295, right after thanksgiving and before my band. My initial weight in before getting the band I was at 284 and my weight ticker starts at 284. My lowest? 143.5. I was 17. -
Can't give up COFFEE!
gingerbug replied to abeaher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was never instructed to give up coffee. I am even allowed to drink soda if it is flat (although, what is the point of flat soda??!! LOL) -

Doctor says eating too few calories...????
gingerbug replied to Banded08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I find that if I want to add a few calories in a healthy way I add a couple slices of avocado or use a couple tablespoons of olive oil on my salad. It is a good fat that is kind to your skin and hair and tastes yummy. -
It is my mission to avoid PB's! It helps for me if I avoid breakfast for a few hours and start slow and I am learning what foods dont work so well!

4 fill for a total of 5.7 cc in my 10cc band. For sure notice a difference now. I still feela bit of head hunger but then I evaluate how I physically feel and there is no way I can eat something. So I dont. I dont think I am quite at my sweet spot but I am close enough that I think I can ride this latest fill out for quiet a while. I love my band. I may have to struggle with small amounts of desire to eat emotionally, I will never have to face those epic battles that erode my self esteem. These days, if I want to enjoy a small ice cream cone with my 4 year old I can really really enjoy it rather than eating it so fast and being ridden with guilt overe it. Anyway, off topic - sorry!!

I snatched a fry from my kids happy meal then took a sip of coffee and holy h@ll. PB'ing into a bag while driving because there was no where to pull over and my oldest asking what is wrong. It was nasty. Ugh. Oh, and it hurt like a sob.

My doc told me with my height I should get to around 180. Of course, I told him I was 5'9" but I am really just over 5'10". I am shooting for 190. At my thinnest I was 140 to 150 and i was still a size 10 and looked very ver thin. Of course, I thought I was fat. Hindsight is always 20/20. I figure at 190 I will be a size 14 or so, depending on where I shop. As long as I feel good and look good I will be fine at that weight. It I have it in me to shoot for 20-30 more then I will. I have to find a place, or a weight, that I dont mind maintaining for the rest of my life. I have to be realistic in my expectations.

I felt LOADS better afterwards. It happened again later that day, too. With a 'safe' food. I think I might just have days that are sensitive. To top it off, it has been at least two weeks since my last fill. It is odd that this is happening now. I would expect it all along. I have swiped a fry from the kids before (no, I dont get fries for myself) with no problems. Last time I do that!!!

Lots of trouble yesterday morning - my first PB's!
gingerbug replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc told me that it was ok to not eat breakfast. if I was not hungry, dont eat. As it stands, eating before 10am is so painful I dont even bother. I have an early lunch between 10-11am and and early dinner. I have not had a pb - it hurts sometimes but I can always feel it go down. Ick, Iam not looking forward to it -
and it went great. i am up to 4.7cc in my 10cc band. I have not lost much in the last couple of weeks but I had lost about 5 the week before that. It seems that I lose 3-5 overnight then nothing for a couple of weeks. I am expecting my period any moment now so between that getting over with and the fill today I am expecting a nice drop over the next couple of weeks. This would be nice because I am so freaking close to getting into the next size down - sort of in between sizes right now!! I hope everyone is well and is staying healthy!! Dh is offshore diving right now ans wont be home for two more months. My goal is to lose 15 more pounds before he gets home.

I was able to go in at 4 weeks for my first then it is every 2-4 weeks afterwards. I waited two weeks for my second fill and three for my third.

I have not had a PB yet. I have had that pain but it always go down. I just got another fill today so I better be more careful, just in case!!

went really well. I now have 3.7cc in my 10cc band. I can really tell the difference even though I am on liquids still. It takes a will to drink a protein shake but that is great, I am learning to enjoy food a taste at a time instead on inhaling my food mindlessly. I would really like to get to a point where I can have just a taste of something yummy. A bite of cake rather than than half the cake. A piece of chocolate instead of a king size version of it. I dont trust myself yet! Maybe when I get to the maintenance part I can do that. So, the fill itself was a little on the ouch side. I think the lady was new and had some trouble and by the time she was done I was wishing I had gone ahead with the numbing shot. :cursing: How is everyone else doing??

I was cleared to work out as I wish and I am thinking of doing some weight lifting. I plan to start out slow and pretty light but am worried that I will hurt my port site. Any advice?

UHC/Lapband Solutions and approval - what has been your experience?
gingerbug replied to bling's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have UHC choice plus. My BMI was barely 40 and I had 5 years documented failed diets - I just had my GYN get together all the dates and weights I had for every year I had been in for the last 5. All my weights fluctuated wildly. I had my approval in less than 3 weeks. Piece of cake. -

Will they give me a second fill if I am losing weight?
gingerbug posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am losing because I am 'dieting' on the band to remain successful. That and I finished up my period right after my first fill, causing me to lose some of the weight I generally do lose after menstruation. I barely feel any restriction and I scheduled my second fill two weeks after my first. I was told to come in again in 2-4 weeks - when I started feeling hungry or if i started gaining. Well, I am very hungry but very much limiting my diet. I am worried they wont believe me. I suppose I could print out a sample of a daily diet and workout from my logs. I have lost 5 pounds. Any advice? -
Wal-Mart opening up doctors offices in store.

Wal-Mart opening up doctors offices in store.
gingerbug replied to crazycat's topic in Rants & Raves
Are you kidding me? Uninsured and broke? I am certainly not broke and my insurance is outstanding. What I DO have is two kids and myself who sometimes need medical care for simple things such as ear infection, UTI's, bladder infections, and the like and I do not have the time to go to the doctors office for every little thing. To add to it, I don't need to worry about getting in to see a doc friday night if I have a sinus infection before a doctors office is closed. They take insurance, I pay a co-pay to go to minute-clinic located at many CVS drugstores and grocery stores and Redi-clinic available at places such as H.E.B. Why would you not utilize an option that gives you adequate medical attention for simple things? I know I don't want to sit around a docs office half my morning to confirm my kid has strep. I can do that in 20 minutes at a facility like this. The staff is well trained, not walmart employes. Jeez, people. An uninsured person will still have to pay a fee to see a someone, I believe that fee is $60. This is not just for 'poor' people. Please get more informed. -
Do you take off your shoes?
gingerbug replied to argon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If I see them sans shoes then I take mine off. I cant often go barefoot due to foot issues and if that comes up, I just explain why. -
Will they give me a second fill if I am losing weight?
gingerbug replied to gingerbug's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey,we have the same band! I know it is different for everyone but when do you get restriction? -
I cant complain. I am trying to sort out what feels 'normal', ya know. it is a whole new ballgame and I feel like I barely know the rules. I have my second fill coming up and I am feeling rather motivated.
