I had about one ounce of fresh pineapple a few days ago with no problem. Maybe you had too much?

2 days before sugery and feeling conflicted
VSGAnn2014 replied to Idahospud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
VERY good news, Idaho. I send you my best wishes for a great surgery, easy recovery and peace. -
Dancing is SOOOO much fun. And such great exercise. Congratulations.

The Frontier employee made her own decision to do this. This isn't required of her at all. The company you'll be writing to will be comparing your description of their employee's behavior to their own policies. And if there's a difference, that employee will feel the impact of her behavior. Oh -- and this thread that's on social media now and that will show up on Google searches about a Frontier Airlines employee's treatment of an overweight customer is NOT what the airline wants to see online. Good on you for making this thread.

Wow, Suse! Thank you soooo much. I've read this twice and have bookmarked it. I'm going to try these exercises. All makes great sense. The part about listening to what your body is telling you it really wants is the part I needed most to hear. I'm constantly trying to be "in charge" of what I eat -- obviously, I'm afraid to give my urges any power at all. Seems like it's time for a little more collaboration, eh? Thank you once again. I appreciate the significant effort you went to to put this thread together. Best regards, Ann

2 days before sugery and feeling conflicted
VSGAnn2014 replied to Idahospud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jeez. This is a shitty situation. But if you stay with him, he will control you totally, even more so than he does right now. And if that happens you will look back on this fork in the road and regret the choice you made for as long as you live. I have no idea how your life will turn out if you have the surgery. But it seems clear what the trajectory of your life will be if you stay with him, do not have the surgery, remain nearly 400 pounds (or more than likely, get even heavier) and remain trapped at home by him -- where he wants you under his thumb. I wish you ALL the best in the world. You do NOT deserve the life he's trying to condemn you to. -
I think I broke my scale...

(Funny joke.) You're doing great. Our bodies do their own thing. And we have to do OUR own thing. Eventually, we both get to the same place. -

Well ... that sucks. On the other hand ... if he was always going to leave anyway, how soon can he move out? Seriously, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this on the eve of surgery. But his announcement makes it clear that, even if he did stay, he wouldn't be supportive of you. If you made this decision for all good reasons and are committed to it, I sure as HELL would NOT cancel surgery because of his bizarre attempt to overwhelm you. Again, so sorry you're having to deal with this now. Yet, it is what it is. And you have to deal with what it is. Very best wishes to you. -
August post op sleevers: Check in

@@chasingpolaris321 ... I would have started using Miralax a week pre-op ... and that would have cleaned me out. For me, Miralax for 3-5 days handles it. And it's one of the gentler treatments. Good luck to you. I bounced back pretty well after GB surgery on Day 28 post-WLS-surgery. Main thing it slowed down was my exercise. I'm only now back to where I was pre-GB surgery. But no biggie. -
@@thesuse2000 I would love to hear what tools you developed from the mindful eating program you participated in. Would you be willing to start a thread on that?

@@Sherry S Now THAT's a wonderful success story. That's literally my goal.

Rosie O’Donnell Makes Hurtful Comments About the Lap-Band on “The View”
VSGAnn2014 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Well ... going into Pollyanna mode here ... maybe the uproar will result in much more discussion on The View (and elsewhere) about WLS that will produce a better educated general public and more interest in WLS by future WLS patients. The great thing about "dialogue" on any subject is that it is never over. We just get to keep talking, thinking and learning. -
What fitness related EVENT are you training/preparing for?

Very inspiring thread. Hmmm ... maybe having a specific sporting event goal WOULD be a fun thing to work toward. Hmmm.... -
Feeling discouraged..
VSGAnn2014 replied to LisaLou30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gad, I really hate to hear about these crash diets some patients are put on to lose X% of weight prior to surgery. It seems so counterproductive to me. I can understand, completely, the benefit of going on a 1200 calorie diet, eating good Protein and veggies, gradually exercising more and more to get you into the groove of what life post-op will be like. But this other crash-diet crap just reinforces old, terrible behaviors. Obviously, I'm just stating my opinion and realize that others' mileage may vary. -
I'm only typing here what I've read and researched online. I have no personal knowledge other than that, so here goes: 1. For several months post-op, your new tummy is still swollen and healing. So the capacity of your tummy is smaller than it will be eventually (say, a year post-op) when the new stomach has completely healed. This conforms with what I see patients 6-8-12 months out saying about their increased capacity. 2. The portion of your stomach that remains post-op is the LEAST stretchy part of your stomach. I've also read that the maximum amount that anyone's new tummy could stretch is 70%. By that measure, your capacity after 70% stretching would be 1.7 times more than it was before stretching. So if you're eating 4 ounces before your sleeve stretched 70%, you could eat 6-1/2 ounces after it stretched. If you were eating 6 ounces before your sleeve stretched 70%, you could eat 9-1/2 ounces after it stretched. Neither of those are big increases. 3. Nonetheless, some WLS patients develop an "ability" (ugh!) to pack more food down into their gullets. I've read (and been told by medical staff) that some people develop a tolerance for storing food in their esophagus while the food below, in the stomach, eventually empties down through the pyloric valve into the intestine, making room for the food in the esophagus to then go down into the tummy. Again, ugh! 4. Some patients learn how to eat more food by grazing / snacking throughout the day and night. 5. Some patients also increase their food intake simply by not eating in accordance with their doctor's instructions. Instead of always eating Protein first, then veggies, and only then simpler carbs (if they have room), they make simple, processed carbs (like crackers, breads, pastas, Cookies, ice cream) a larger proportion of their diets. 6. Some patients also are unable to stop drinking sweetened and high calorie drinks (sweet tea, sugar sodas, high-calorie coffee drinks, etc.). In other words, it's not hard to cheat the sleeve. The sleeve is a tool. But WE operate the tool.

Two Years out: LISTEN UP NOOBS AND SEEKERS! *warning-harsh*
VSGAnn2014 replied to Dooter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Elsewhere today, I saw a post by a WLS patient who, two weeks post-op, has discovered cheez-it crackers to munch with her babybel cheese. She's very happy. I can just imagine how happy she'll be when she discovers other slider foods. S.M.H. -

HOW MUCH HAVE YOU ALL LOST IN THE FIRST MONTH

I lost 10.4 pounds during the first month post-op . I was happy with that. I'm pretty happy with everything about WLS thus far. -

RJ, that just sucks. I hope when you've gotten your breath back that you can find another path to your goal. But in the meantime, it's got to be tough. -

I'm 68 years old. Taking vacations with my hubby (whom I have never fallen out of love with) always make me see him "differently" and "anew." When things are too much the same, you have to shake it up and do something different. If you made a list of 20 things that you and he could do together that are different, you'd both wind up having a lot of fun. Best wishes to you.

Lisa, I know you are grieving terribly. I really understand that. But have you and your PCP discussed whether an antidepressant would benefit you at this point? (Very sincere question.) -
There are indeed some unhappy people in this world. And there are some unfortunately not very bright people in this world. Truth is, you can't do much to help either group. So why let them take up so much space in your head?
