The Rules: Do you follow them?
VSGAnn2014 replied to MichiganChic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Will also comment that in all the pre- and post-surgery education / counseling / coaching I've received from my bariatric center, no one has given me a "don't eat or drink these things ever for the rest of your life" list. Oh ... sorry ... except for carbonated beverages. -
From this post it seems you are finding your way after some bad relationships, and I wish you the very best. But I would not give any credence to Gary Null's opinions or advice. Check out his opinions about HIV/AIDS, vaccines, cancer treatment, and his "Ph.D." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Null http://www.quackwatch.com/04ConsumerEducation/null.html

Let your voices be heard!
VSGAnn2014 replied to Stevehud's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
And this^^^, once again, is why I have told only two of the hundreds of my smart, mostly normal-sized friends about my WLS. I literally do not have the time, energy or interest to educate my friends who are totally ignorant or misinformed about WLS. After all, just recall how much time and energy WE have invested in learning about our respective WLS surgeries and tools and their use. We didn't know much about this to start with either. -
What a great thread. Thanks, @@CowgirlJane .

What a wonderful success story yours is. I hope you're as happy as I imagine I would be at your age having accomplished what you have. Congratulations! -

Buy a Fitbit! It could change your life. Truly. -
Michigan, I sincerely think you look just wonderful. Perhaps you need some NEW goals. Fitness goals. Travel goals. Educational goals. Romance goals. Career goals. Maybe get that knee replaced that was holding you back. After all, we had this surgery and traveled this path to have a better life. Before you had WLS and fantasized about your life after WLS, how did you imagine your life would / could be different? Perhaps it's time to go create and live that life.

Any research on changing relationships?
VSGAnn2014 replied to mercy96's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Jealousy. Pure dee out jealousy. However ... how you FEEL about their jealousy and their pissy comments is all on you. If their behavior really wounds you, unfriend them on FB. If you don't like how their treatment of you makes you feel, learn not to take it personally. If you don't like their negativity, find some other friends and spend time with them to put some positive energy in your life. And if you REALLY don't like it, find another job. And yes, you will find other employment more easily when you've lost 50-100 pounds. Don't let that bother you either; it's just the way it is. -

I follow the rules you described above. About 95% of the time. I'm a roaring success! -
When did you feel "not sick" post op?
VSGAnn2014 replied to GeminiSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never thrown up. But I was glad to hang out at home for about two weeks post-op. I remember napping a lot. Don't worry ... you'll return to feeling normal. It may take a few weeks, even a few months. But for now focus on recovering from major surgery. -
Did you take your clothes off to weigh in the first time?
VSGAnn2014 replied to Mom0f3inOC's topic in Insurance & Financing
Good God, no! And I found my pockets, bra, socks, underwear really handy locations for about 4 pounds worth of half-pound weights, since I was at tad under the BMI level required for surgery consideration. And since I'm anonymous here and since I've already had the surgery and am doing great, I don't mind sharing this info at all. P.S. The weight reflected in my ticker here was my actual butt-naked weight on my bathroom scales the morning after my first consult with the surgeon. -

Will I Ever be able to drink wine again?
VSGAnn2014 replied to icandoit!'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wine palettes are particular the person. I've been drinking good wines for over 40 years. I like REDS: Cabernet sauvignon Pinot Zinfandel Syrah I like WHITES: Chardonnay Sauvignon blanc I like CHAMPAGNE And I like DESSERT WINES: Ports Sauternes Fruit brandies There's so much wine in the world to sample and explore. We don't have to drink it every night or every week or every month. But I would be sad if wine were forever off my menu. -

From time to time sales people for MX surgeons (who have very few, if any, prior posts) start trashing other doctors on the various online WLS forums. This is one of those times. (yawn) -
Afraid I don't have it in me...
VSGAnn2014 replied to sdocforce's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think it's a mistake to think that the regain of 5 or 15 pounds is the end of the world. Not long ago I posted that I thought it would make sense if WLS patients were *required* to gain 10 pounds and then figure out how to re-lose the weight. Seriously! If we can't figure out how to lose regained weight, I don't know how we're going to maintain our weight. Just consider this next few months your graduate WLS course. Very, very best to you both. -
You won't feel any restriction for several weeks -- you're "eating" only liquids right now, which slide right on down, leaving your new tummy empty. Believe me, when you start eating Proteins you will DEFINITELY feel the restriction. Your buyers remorse will leave, too. It's just something you have to go through. It may last a few hours, a few days. There's just no way to anticipate what it feels like to realize that you willingly let a surgeon cut out 85% of your stomach. Don't get me wrong ... you'll get used to the idea real fast. But understanding the theory of that simply does not fully anticipate the reality of doing it. Best to you.

Regarding all the individual differences in our physical bodies that could affect our ability to absorb food and gain weight ... When I was much younger I always imagined I had one of the world's longest human small intestines and that I simply absorbed more nutrients than "skinny girls" did. Who knows what all the differences are that contribute to Person A being "naturally" heavier than Person B.
