Authoritative opinions re the use of nauseated / nauseous differ. Consider this opinion of The Chicago Manual of Style: https://twitter.com/ChicagoManual/status/471705283572826113
  3. I agree completely that no one can make someone else change their life. But people stay trapped in situations created by their prior choices for several reasons -- and one of those reasons is that they literally don't know about new options / choices that are now available. That's how I was about gastric sleeve surgery. As I've posted before, I literally had never heard of VSG surgery until it was described by someone who answered the phone at a bariatric clinic when I made an anonymous inquiry about lapband surgery. Of course, there are bad ways and better ways of presenting information. You could say, "Hey, Fatty -- you should have WLS!" or you could introduce the subject organically in an ongoing conversation -- particularly if your correspondent has already introduced the subject of weight or health themselves. After all, I sometimes have good conversations on airplanes with strangers about topics I'd never broach with someone I knew socially. But I do agree -- this is a very, very touchy subject.

And while we're at it ... Nauseated, people. It's nauseated. Not nauseous.

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

I participate in online forums a lot and am used to communities where other members are also experienced online community members. This joint, on the other hand, attracts a lot of people who appear to have never been in an online community before. They are not only uncomfortable being online with others who aren't from their own cultures or backgrounds, but seem shocked that there are others online who share their need for WLS while having little else in common with them. So then this culture battle develops when the newbie side has a reaction to others' language or sense of humor or lifestyle or "morality" or "ethics." And threads that started out interestingly enough turn into "You're not polite enough or sincere enough or humble enough or kind enough or empathetic enough or succinct enough or too straightforward or too rude or ... blah, blah, blah." I'll remind anyone who cares that your style isn't everyone's style. And to those who just want strokes for being lazy, I suggest you go hire someone who'll tell you what you pay them to say. And if you want to pay me to stroke your idiocy, please PM me and I'll tell you where to send my check. (And now there will be the obligatory posts about how this is a *support* group and we're not supposed to offer any authentic feedback.)

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet

The first week for sure is no cake walk. Nothing you've described sounds out of the ordinary for many people. But ... and this is a good but ... you've had the courage to do this. And my strong bet is that sooner than you could imagine you're going to be enjoying an exponentially better life. Honestly, these next months will go so fast you won't believe it. And what your life will be like then is nothing like what you're feeling right now. Right now, you're just recovering from major surgery. So nap all you can. Drink all the Water you can. Take your meds. Follow your surgeon's instructions. Take it a day at a time. Then a week. Then a month ....
  12. Nice post, @galfriday I have never seen the show and don't want to contribute to "sideshows," which the show's always seemed it was, based on posts about it I've read here. But your post about your friend makes it clear that there are things about the show that are legitimate. Congrats to both of you on your WLS successes thus far.

Of course I'm losing weight where I don't want to.

I've never had a small butt or slim thighs. And now, during the last 10 pounds, suddenly there they are! Never expected that!
  16. Thank you, @@JustWatchMe ... Congrats to your friend. That news feels SO good!
  17. Yeah, I was talking to you. If you understood the OP didn't intend to approach or speak to anyone, why did part of your last post sound like you thought she was going to march up to a young woman and say, "Hey, fatty -- considered weight loss surgery?" And yeah, I understood your response. You think that a person who's been fat (but now isn't) who feels empathy for a fat person and their physical and emotional pain is fucked up.
  18. Thank you, @@LipstickLady . Isn't it great?!
  19. I had never even heard of VSG surgery until, after calling the local bariatric center of excellence to ask about lapband surgery, it was explained to me. A month later I attended the intro lecture given by the surgeon and realized THIS was something that made sense to me. I didn't know anyone who'd had VSG surgery. And now that I think about it, I don't personally know of anyone who's had lapband or gastric bypass surgery either. (Or if I do, they're on the down low about it.) Anyway, it just all made great sense to me: The restriction, the ghrelin, the year or two to learn and practice brand new ways of eating, etc. So far, my sleeve loves me, and I love it. Apparently, I had a great surgeon. I've never thrown up even once post-op. I'm 4 pounds from goal (and only 7-1/2 months post-op). I haven't had any real stalls. I feel great. At this point I'm eating 1,200 calories/day (and nearly 100 grams of Protein daily) and still losing weight, albeit slowly. I saw my NUT and exercise consultant yesterday. They both think I can eat 1600 - 1700 calories a day to maintain my weight after I reach goal. Hey! I can live with that! Honest to God ... VSG surgery was the smartest, luckiest, most rewarding thing I've done in my whole life to reach a healthy weight. And it has the greatest odds of anything else I've ever done to maintain my weight. I'm looking forward so much to the rest of my life. Heck, I'm looking forward to dinner tonight! And best news of all ... hubby finished his chemo treatment today. And he is currently cancer-free. Life offers no guarantees. But you makes your choices and you takes your chances. And tonight, in this house, life is wonderful. To quote Auntie Mame: Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!
  20. Protip: It's a great idea if you're going to comment on a thread that you actually read the opening post. Or not. Your choice, of course.

"picky eaters" - my pet peeve

"picky eaters" - my pet peeve

What surprises me is how many people on this board (compared to at least one other board I frequent) are so resentful about what they *have* to do to be successful with WLS, other than have someone cut off 85% of their stomachs. I sometimes think this board attracts a larger proportion of people, regardless of their chronological ages, with "teenage thinking" (my apologies to teenagers ). Those folks seem to compulsively resist following WLS guidelines and resent those who remind them of the guidelines. It's also clear that some who ask for advice or feedback are just really looking for support for their approaches. It's no surprise veterans drift away. This is actually a different topic. Sorry for the derail, @@CowgirlJane .
