I've found that recently, I have a very harsh reaction to milk and some milk products. Ice cream is out, as is cottage cheese and sherbet. I realize the ice cream and sherbet should be out anyway, and they were treats anyway, but I mainly ate them to test my theory. The reaction to the cottage cheese was violent and almost immediate - it went right through me! The other two just bring on VERY painful gas with cramping. I can generally eat cheese, especially "cheese products" like Kraft slices, and even cheese quesadillas. (I'm in Texas, so this is a great way for me to eat Protein without regular bread with carbs). I guess I'm not really looking for a cure, but mostly to see if anyone else suddenly developed this after their sleeve. I was sleeved 11/20/13, so I'm still in the first year. Thanks for any and all input. ~CB

This is exactly what I take. Just started the Biotin. I'm a gulper too, and was worried about sipping for the rest of my life. My doc told me that I won't be chugging a bottle of anything any more, but I will be drinking normally. And I am, already. 3 months TODAY!! If you are scared, TOO scared, you might not be ready yet. You might need to just talk to your doc and Nut, and find the answers to your questions. Write down your concerns and ask and research. But do't do anything you aren't ready for. My doc did tell me that I'd go through a period where I would regret my decision. I knew it was coming, so I wasn't shocked when I went through the anger and upset at the low weight loss. It IS a lifestyle change, as it should be. We all got to our weight by eating badly. Whether it's content or the size of the portion, it's all something that needs to be changed. You can't expect to lose weight doing and eating the same things. It's that simple. It just comes down to... what are you willing to give up. Nothing? Then you aren't ready. ~C -
Seela, I just looked at your "stats". I'm wondering, how many of these "concerned folks" were concerned when you were 250 lbs?? Honestly, that's why I only told a few people I was even getting the surgery. I didn't want to mess with the whole "isn't that dangerous?" or "what happens if you change your mind?" (which I'm getting from my mother-in-law anyway). I didn't want to have to say "Isn't being MORBIDLY OBESE dangerous?" and "Why would I ever change my mind about being overweight and miserable??" If people think I'm losing weight "the old fashioned way" (which I am, I just have a smaller stomach so that I don't succumb to my cravings and those unhealthy voices in my head and down that entire double bacon cheeseburger with fries) then they are proud of me, what I am doing and what I am achieving. And since I can honestly say it's "doctor supervised", then they are kept at bay even more. Your size is none of their business. Your health might be, if they have been concerned about your health all along. There has been some noise made around here about the Biggest Loser winner who got so incredibly small, down to a measly 105. Now, she LOOKS "too thin", but who knows if that's her (what I call) "safe" or "bumper" weight - a weight where you can bounce 5-10 lbs without catastrophic consequences. This rapid weight loss might be what people are focusing on. Then again, like you said, it might just be jealousy. If that's the case, you flaunt it, girl! You earned it!! ~C

When it gets difficult, you have your numbers to look at. 2 weeks and 30+ pounds GONE, never to return!! Pat yourself on the back for your hard work, and visualize yourself slimmer and sexy this summer, enjoying light meals with friends, and sipping your summer beverage like "normal folks". ~C -

Don't you believe it. I was give or take, exactly the same weight as you on surgery day. My weightloss has been slower, I've done everything I could do and it's still falling out. I think it's just in the hands of the gods and how your body reacts to the surgery itself. It sucks! Well, then I guess I know what to expect. I wasn't really believing it; was mostly just crossing my fingers and making a wish. My hair is already thin and fine, so losing it is going to be dreadful. Summer is coming, so it looks like lots of hats are in order! *sigh* What a pain in the ass. -

Whoa!! For some reason, even with all of the research I did, I don't remember seeing anything about massive weight loss!! I expected some, because of the drastic change in intake of Vitamins, but nothing like what is talked about here!! I had surgery 11/20, so I'm right at the cusp of when this is all supposed to happen. I have a follow-up 4/4, and you can bet I'll be asking the doc about this bidness!! LOL Oh, and I'm off to the store to stock up on Biotin first thing in the morning!! Also, I started at a lower weight than most who do the sleeve (248) and have averaged 10 lbs/mo. (42 lbs so far), and I'm wondering, since I'm not losing so quickly as some that maybe I'll miss this little gem? Any ideas? ~C -
Let's talk CARBS!
cathibass13 replied to cathibass13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At least you've given me a number! I seem to be jumping all over the place, as does my weight. I won't even have my next check up/in until 3/4, and I don't want to wait that long to have a good, solid number. -
I know this is probably a question for a nutritionist, but I'm going to throw this out there: I'm beginning to see a correlation between carbs eaten in a day and stalls or even gains. So my question is: how many carbs is "normal" now that I have a new, spiffy sleeve? I know that with the Adkins diet, a 3 week period of 21 carbs/day was suggested. Any ideas?

Typical or weird? (weight GAINS)
cathibass13 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks post-op, and twice now I have experienced 3-5 lb weight GAINS. The first time was random, and it really upset me. The second time was after I hurt my back and was basically immobile for 3 days as well as taking (liquid) pain meds (hydrocodone). It is very frustrating, especially when I think that I have only lost 20 lbs (+/-) total since surgery, at a time where I thought my numbers would be much higher. Is this typical?? Right now, I just got down to 1 lb BELOW the last 5 lb gain (so I lost 6 lbs, verrry slowly) and now I'm up almost 2 lbs. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING!! Especially when I don't know if anyone has ever experienced such a strange phenomena. I can't call my regular doc since they are closed for the holidays. I have to admit, I am not exercising (because of my back issues, in tandem with the stress of the holidays), and I'm hoping that this, in conjunction with my choosing high carb items (baked potato Soup, cheese soup, noodles, etc) has something to do with it. Please tell me that this is actually what the problem is, so that I can begin that rapid downward scoop that I was looking for pre-surgery!! Or, am I just expecting too much, and should I be happy with my weight loss to date? I began at 245 which is comparatively low for GSS patients, in general (I'm told). Could that be it?? I'm just stumped, and frustrated. -

10 Days Out - Weight Down And Up?
cathibass13 replied to cathibass13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It most certainly does help to know you are having the same results. In all my searching, I haven't found any other mention of this, so I was beginning to panic. Follow up with my doc is greatly anticipated so I can get a few answers. Thanks for responding. If anyone else had the same sort of experience, please let me know. I'm also wondering if it might be water-weight and/or (to put it bluntly)... poop. Haven't been doing a lot of that, and not sure if I should be, considering all I am consuming is liquids, even if they are protein-rich (somewhat), -

10 Days Out - Weight Down And Up?

New to the board, but I'm looking for some experienced folks who can help me out. My surgery date was 11/20, and things have actually been going pretty well until now. Then yesterday, when I stepped on the scale, I'm actually UP almost 2.5 lbs!! How does that happen? After a day of monitoring my intake fastidiously, I'm back down .5 pounds. This is the kind of progress I would expect from a regular "diet", and not after major surgery to enable weight LOSS!! Obviously, I'm a little frustrated and more than a little confused. I realize I probably shouldn't be weighing myself daily, but I'm glad I did so I could see this. Today I am following the menu/schedule to the letter, and I sure hope something happens to the scale tomorrow, or I might cry. Yes, I'm over-dramatizing (but not by much). Thanks for any input, CB
