Hi,
I have been considering weight loss surgery for about five years. It has taken my husband a while to become convinced that the risks to my health were much greater from obesity than they were from the surgery. I am so tired of yo-yoing and have become very discouraged by the statistics that show just how few people retain long term weight loss without assistance. I know this won't be a magic bullet; that I will have to eat right and exercise (I have never been afraid of exercise - I am retired military). I just need a big jump start and strong support.
I went to the info session at a hospital's obesity center that is a "Bariatric Center of Excellence". My insurance company is being cagey - they approved they initial visits but won't tell me whether they will approve me for the procedure yet. They need to determine whether it is medically necessary.
I have my initial intake January 2nd, then meet with the nutritionist and exercise physiologist at the end of January. My BMI is 43 right now.
I am hoping to gather insight here, see where people have found road blocks during the approval process, had set backs and generally find support.
Thanks,
Chrystine
