Please, don't be discouraged. I began in October 2013. My pre-op appointment with the surgeon is March 24th. Hopefully, my surgery date will be mid April. I felt like giving up too. I kept getting the runaround from my PCP who quit just shy of my final weigh-in of my 4 month diet, so I had to find a new PCP at a moment's notice. I had to take the psych evaluation twice because of some error on the report. That threw me back 3 weeks before it could be submitted to insurance. Finally, got approval but couldn't get last (pre-op) appointment with surgeon scheduled until I retook my TSH blood test again because it was abnormal in December but no one ever told me until the last minute. So, here I am. Trust me. I definitely understand your frustration. I feel like I could've used that time focusing on a lifestyle change. I've taken up some crafting hobbies to pass the time as well. It kind of works for me. Your day will be here before you know it. Good luck & best wishes to you!!

Riding That Roller Coaster: The Emotional Side of Weight Loss Surgery You Might Not Expect
w8loser replied to 7 Bites_Jen's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This is a great read & very helpful. Thanks! Guess what Comfy_Blue just because someone doesn't mention your weight loss doesn't mean that they don't notice. I'm sure everyone notices how great you look! -
So, I got approved this week! Anyone else?

Insurance Approval Came in Today!

Congratulations! -
This is the show's 2nd season. The 1st season followed the people much longer. Some up to 7 years. It was much more in depth. Nevertheless, please continue to watch, in spite of Penny giving this show & weight loss surgery a bad reputation. Other episodes were full of hope, trials, & triumph. Very inspiring.

w8loser replied to RedStorm's topic in Insurance & Financing
I also gained about 8 lbs. But, I haven't heard from Cigna yet. Submitted 5 days ago. Thanks SIJoe! I think you made us both feel better. RedStorm, hope you've gotten your approval. Good luck! -

Wow! Perseverance. -
LOL! True. Thanks!

Wonderful! Congratulations!!!

Simply put, no. I gained 8 lbs. Don't worry. You obviously need help with your weight or you wouldn't need wls in the 1st place, right? Relax.

Having Children After Gastric Bypass
w8loser replied to cutiepieinchi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Cutiepieinchi! I saw that lady on Oprah's Where Are They Now too. People were also discussing what she said about wls all over social media. I wish she had clarified her statement better. People are so ignorant to the benefits of bariatric surgery. She said she thought her infertility was due to her wls/gastric bypass but she went on to say that she now realizes it wasn't the surgery's or her fault. Unless, her surgeon botched something during her particular (isolated) surgery, the chances of wls causing infertility are extremely slim. I've heard of more babies actually being made post op due to weight loss & healing disorders such as PCOS. My sister in law had twin girls 2 years after gb. I'm hoping to increase my chances of becoming pregnant post op as well. I have 2 children from a previous marriage but unfortunately my wonderful husband doesn't have any. I've had 2 miscarriages since we've been married, likely caused by my obesity & high blood pressure. Please rest assured that wls will benefit your fertility rather than destroy it. -
In the hospital again!
w8loser replied to *Misty*Raine*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry. Get well soon! -
Short answer....yes. Try using powder, vaseline, or deodorant. If your apron continues to cause discomfort you may want to consult a plastic surgeon. Insurance may cover it before you reach goal if doc says it's inhibiting your continued weight loss progress & exercise. Hope this helped.

My body is protesting....
w8loser replied to sawyersmommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know you've had your surgery but I decided to bump this because I'm having the same issues. But, what I can gather is the sensitivity to water & smells is just your body's response to the liquid diet & going w/o the usual types of food/nourishment. Basically, it's in shock. As for the gas it's like a balloon being deflated. The gas has been trapped inside of our bodies for some time but caused bloating because of our regular diet/eating habits kept it bottled up in our colon like the end of the balloon. Then the extra fluids & pre-op diet allowed it to flow out & just let go. Need I say more? lol -

Any Dr. Patricia Kelley, PhD in Memphis Psych Evals?
w8loser posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I live in Memphis, TN & I've completed every prerequisite for wls. I had psych eval with Dr. Patricia Kelley. Have any of you? What was the outcome? Did you pass or fail? -
GastricBypassNY I believe that you sincerely meant no harm in what you said. I am a black woman, yes that's how I refer to myself. But, I would be lying if I said when I read your OP that it didn't sting. My grandmother, also a black woman still refers to herself & other "people of color" as "colored". I guess I take after her. She nor I have adjusted to the name changes & distinctions. We, meaning people of color, have gone from being called the N word, to colored, to NE g r 0, to black, to African American, now to people of color. It's a bit much. However, I'll respect anyone's right to be referred to as whatever they want. I told my grandmother how it makes me feel when she uses the term "colored" to refer to her family or others. She told me this famous quote: "It doesn't matter what people call you. It only matters what you answer to." And I'd also like to add that I'd never tell someone else again what they should or shouldn't be offended by because I'm me & they're them. I've never walked in their shoes. Sims' quoted opinion and those of your colleagues are of their own individual opinion. They certainly do not speak for every "person of color". OAN to the OP I don't personally do MJ but my sister in law had gastric bypass about 7 years ago & gained almost all of it back she says she couldn't control the munchies but needed to smoke to help with her migraines.

Any Dr. Patricia Kelley, PhD in Memphis Psych Evals?
w8loser replied to w8loser's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have Dr. Weaver as well. I've heard she is the best! Silly but I dislike that she has so many patients that my pre-op appointment is scheduled 6 weeks away & my surgery probably won't be until end of April (lol). I was hoping to have it done middle of March when I'd have the most help available to me. Oh well. Still excited about this journey. I wish you all the best. Hope I'll get a chance to meet at one of the meetings. I'm going on the 6th. -
I Really Hate It When The Media Calls Some Celebrities "fat"!
w8loser replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Rants & Raves
Look who she's up against. Body building women & stick thin models. As a teenager, I thought I was huge. I look back on my pics from high school & I'm like "What the hell was I thinking?!" I looked great! My mom always tried to tell me that. The problem was that in my school or any environment outside of my home, my "friends" and other people made me feel this way. All of my friends were petite or tall slender model types. So by comparison, I WAS larger than they were. There wasn't anything wrong with me, I just needed new friends. For more reasons than one. Oh & btw I've since run into a couple of those high school friends and I think I'll refer them to my wls surgeon. One girl I didn't even recognize, she had gained that much. Guess who's the smallest out of them now (before surgery)? *raises hand* Yep! Not that I'm rubbing it in. -
Please, go to doc & get it checked out. Better safe than sorry. Hope you feel better soon.

I have a 17 year old son, so I've gone through that stage already. I think there was never an instance where I contradicted my mother or grandmother in favor of my son. I understand that you say that your mom is responding to him in a childish manner yet, she is technically the adult & it's her home, correct? There is a certain level of respect that goes with those 2 aspects. Try to be a mediator if you can instead of taking sides. Hope this helps.

I haven't had the surgery yet so I don't know from experience but I do have eyes and ears and she is one of those people who really believes that wls is the easy way out. She thought he was God & she was receiving some miraculous/magical stomach that would allow her to eat all that she wanted& not gain a pound. Well, it did do that but she also hasn't lost another pound either. Sadly, she thinks her son won't eventually resent her for being to overweight to truly be there for him.

I would ask around or maybe your surgeon can recommend a wls friendly PCP for you. Good luck!
