  1. I was wondering what kinds of foods people have been having trouble eating after surgery. Also how long did people need to wait until after surgery to start eating raw fruits and veggies. Like salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, strawberries, melons... This time of year in Ohio fresh produce is fantastic and I am dying for some salad and fresh fruits. I'm 2 months post op now and have experimented with a little tomato with my meat or a piece of lettuce and have had no problem. But I would love a salad or snack on some fruit. Could I get some advice on different foods to help my cravings? My nut said I really shouldn't try any raw fruits (except bananas) and veggies until I'm 3 months out.
  2. In my opinion you can never drink too much. Keeping hydrated is your #1 goal. Just don't do it too fast. It is good to continually sip on something high protein or water.

    Eating too much too fast?

Make sure you stick to puréed good even if you "chew" it enough to be "puréed". That's a huge no no when I had my surgery. Especially meat, and if you do have meat make sure you mix it with a sauce or gravy. I was in pure clear liquids for 1 week post op. So I'm worried that you will really hurt yourself not even being a week out

    Alcohol

My Dr/Nut said absolutely no alcohol or carbonation for a minimum of 3 months after surgery. By law they are required to say 6 months. But my nut was like *wink wink* you "can" have some at 3 months out.

    Should i be concerned?

No I haven't called my surgeon. I don't want to call on a weekend when I don't feel like it's anything major.

    Should i be concerned?

I think they are coming from my tonsils because after most of the food comes up is when I start spitting up little amounts of blood. I look at my throat with a light and I see some blood in like the "holes" of my tonsils.
  8. (Those who are squeamish, you might not want to read) Had the sleeve surgery June 9th, 2014. I'm still figuring out my food portions and what agrees with me and what doesn't. I have thrown up a few times because there are just days my stomach is irritated all day and just doesn't want anything in it. (Is this normal to have these days?) but my main concern is after I throw up. (which when throwing up it is very hard heaves. Kinda like dry heaving with a little food coming up, which we all know is one if the worst ways of throwing up). But after I throw up I spit up blood and it looks like it's coming from my tonsils. Has anyone else heard of this issue or had it happen? I never had this problem before surgery.

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

I had my surgery June 9th. As of this morning I am down 56 lbs total. I can eat just about anything except fresh fruits, raw veggies, dense/tough meats (steak, brisket, pork chops) pasta and thick bread. Everything else goes down super easy. It's weird how I can tell when i am full. I've put bites of food in my mouth and have had to spit them out because I can tell if I swallow it that it will be too much. As far as liquids and protein. I haven't really had to drink much protein in order to get it all in. I only have room for a few bites of meat before I'm full and that's fine with me. If you have trouble getting your protein in I highly suggest the protein bullets that you can get at Walmart or GNC, they taste pretty awful. But 3 swigs and you've got 42 grams of protein. I love water and unsweetened iced tea is growing on me the more I drink it. I can hardly stand sweetened tea anymore. So liquids aren't an issue. Can't wait until we have before and after photos in a couple months of everyone!

How are we doing ladies? I'm doing wonderful. So much more energy now that I can have puréed foods. I have ham and sweet potatoes in the oven right now and it smells heavenly. I'm able to drink really well and even take a couple actual "gulps" of water. The puréed food is still iffy and baby food seems to be the easiest to go down.

Well, I guess I wasn't dehydrated, I just couldn't pee lol. So I'm stuck with a catheter until Monday...yay lol. I've noticed any stomach pain comes with some gurgling and gas. I only take one small sip then wait about 10 seconds and repeat. I'm tolerating most everything I've ingested. TMI but I got the worse yeast infection Tuesday night. Never had one before but it is worse than the incision or stomach pains. And thank you for the compliment, you are so sweet! You looked great for just having a major operation! Lol. I woke up with quite a bit of nausea. But after all that was taken care of, I was fine. Do you feel much restriction? The only time I know I drank too much or too fast is that my stomach makes a gurgling noise. It's hard to realize that I actually have 85% less of my stomach when only consuming liquids lol. And by any chance do you know what size of boogie Dr. Curry uses? You know I would love to have your email or phone number so we can communicate a little better

Still pretty sore, huge tmi but I want to let other know because I wasn't prepared for it. I just got a huge yeast infection Tuesday night. It is actually worse than the incision and stomach pains. Having all that on top of having a catheter, recovery has been a little rough. I still wouldn't change my decision though. I have been having a little regrets, but then I look at how happy everyone is with their sleeves and I get over it quite quickly.

Well, back in the hospital because if dehydration and not being able to urinate...yay...not. Been having some issues with head hunger. My body doesn't want anything put into it, but anything my brain thinks of or sees it wants to eat by the boat loads. Incision pain and my stomach gurgling/flipping every time I take a drink have been almost constant. But bearable. Hope everyone else doing okay!

Ended up Having to go to the ER last night and get straight cathed. Your bladder is only supposed to hold 300-500 cc of fluid I had over 1,100 in bladder. But doing a lot better now. Gas pain in my chest has been what has hurt the most. Kinda nervous to take off the bandages today and see my 5 incisions.

Got done with the surgery in about 30-40 minutes. Woke up with some pain. But the nausea was worse. Seemed to take them forever to figure it out. Probably only a half hour. Everything went great, in a hotel room now. Walking and drinking has been going fine. Pain is just coming back but took some of my pain pills and an anti-nausea medicine. Haven't been able to pee since about 4:30 this morning. If I can't go in the left 3 hours I have to go back to the hospital .
