I am having great trouble getting food and fluids in, i need some help please
flamingnutters posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I feel i am in a lot of trouble at the moment, i am having daily trips to the hospital for a litre of fluids through a drip, and i get to see my surgeon on Tuesday, I have been having a lot of trouble getting through to her that i can't eat or drink enough, i have 5 kids to look after on my own and spend a lot of time throwing up after eating. I had a ct scan the other day that showed the band is in place, i am losing weight but it is by starving myself un intentionally. My surgeon thinks i am a sook basically and my dietitian thinks i am not get enough food in for me to be well. What can you eat in a day?, i am at the point where i think it is all in my head coz my surgeon keeps saying that i think that if i don't eat i will die, and that custard, vegies and a biscuit and cream cheese is enough, although i can't even eat any of that now. I can eat about 2 spoons of yohgurt and feel it in my chest for 20 - 30 minutes before i feel comfortable again, and that is if it doesn't come back up. I stuggle drinking more than a sip or two at a time, i don't get even 600ml of Fluid in in a day. I was banded in may i have 2.2 mls in, i did have 3ml and i couldn't even swallow my saliva, she reluctantly took out .5 ml after 2 1/2 days of constant vomiting and in that time i lost 7kgs. She took out another .3ml a week and a half ago and that still nade no difference. There have been times that i have been able to eat with no problems but then i would have trouble getting food in again. I am so confused, i have changed my life for this and i now exercise constantly but i am having so much trouble and a surgeon who isn't listening to me at all. I need to know what a normal lapband diet is for others and how they feel. please i would love to get some feedback here. Thank you Cheers Jane -

Ok feedback from my visit to the doctor, thank you for your support. I am now able to eat again, my surgeon was good this time and i didn't have any problems with her, but that was because my body was in starvation mode, she took out all Fluid and there was 4mls in there, i thought it was only meant to be 2.2mls so idon't know where the rest came from, she replaced 1.5mls and now i feel as though i have no restrictions, it is so good to be able to eat again and not spend my time feeling so awful, i go back in about 3 - 4 weeks to get a top up and in that time giving my body a chance to recover, i still have NO energy and i am trying to replenish the fluids. So bottom line i was overfilled and there was no way things were going through. my fear at the moment is the weight gain, but i just have to work through that and get back on top of things. So thank you from a happier me Cheers Jane -

Thanks Dana No there is not someone near by i will have to go about 350km away to see someone else, i am going to see how i go on tuesday when i see my surgeon, i think i am going for a total unfil to give my body a chance to recover, i am scared as i don't want to put weight on again, but i also can't keep going this way, i had a really bad day yesterday every thing and anything was coming up, today i just didn't try to eat as i couldn't have another day of vomiting, i am not having fun and i don't know what to do. i would just love to feel comfortable and steadily lose weight, lets hope things will change soon. I will keep you informed. Cheers Jane -

Thank you for your thoughts and support, i am so unhappy at the moment, i am yelling at my kids and it isn't there fault, i am still making the daily visits to the hospital for the 1 litre of fluids, i still find it hard to keep anything down, today i just stopped trying, because yesterday i threw up so much it wasn't fair, and i was only having a spoonful of yohgurt or something minimal and i would throw up about 3 times each time for having nothing much. I took my kids out to my folks today for a roast lunch and Mum asked me what i could eat but i just couldn't face another day of vomiting so i went without, eventually i was able to have a dry biscuit. It just doesn't seem right for the body to be going through this and i am sure that this whole banding thing is not about starvation, is it?? Two days until i get some Fluid out and then hopefully it will be a lot more comfortable, i don't want to give up on this, but i also don't want to keep going on like this. Cheers Jane -

Thank you Socalgal, i am throwing up everything, it is not as bad now i am having the drip, but i think that may be more because i have stopped eating... I see the surgeon on tuesday and my doctor tried to take all the Fluid out on Thursday but was unable to work it out, hense the drip until i see surgeon, i think the idea will be to take out all the fluid, i have said to the surgeon before that i would rather go backwards in order to go forward again, i don't think she likes to take any out but hey this is not fun at all. i wonder what it is doing to the insides of my throat to the banding, as i have had a lot of problem with reflux in the past especially when i was pregnant with twins. I am off to hospital now for my daily dose Cheers Jane -

Anyone being banded in May??
flamingnutters replied to margiecandoit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Karyn, i am a lot better now i have had 1/2ml taken out and felt an immediate release, and i was able to drink a glass of Water, i had lost 7kgs on her scales in 2 1/2 days and i thought that was really scarey, then she told me off and made me feel like a child, and i was not happy with that, today i can drink and eat small amounts, it is so good to be able to drink, i am exhausted now, and i hope this is a better way to go, i managed to get there safely and return home safely, don't want to have to travel that far again, i can usually see her closer to home, only 80km one way in comparrison to 200k's one way thanks for the support.:clap2: , how are you going with everything? and i will pm you Cheers Jane -
Anyone being banded in May??
flamingnutters replied to margiecandoit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Karyn, i now have an appointment this afternoon to see the DR, it is 200km away, that i am not happy about but i will just have to go, i am obviously overfilled and when i got on the scales this morning my weight had dropped 6.5kg since monday night, so i think that this is not the way to loose the weight, i would just dearly love to be able to have a drink at the minute without it rebounding immediately, but i should be back on track tonight, so i will let you know how i feel later. Cheers Jane -
Hi Phili, isn't it so frustrating, i read a post somewhere yesterday and there was someone having the same problems, they went to a new DR and they took out the Fluid in the band and there wasn't nearly as much in the band as was meant to be, then they refilled the band and for the first time she felt the restriction, so maybe in your case you could ask you dr to extract the fluid and see what is in there and then refill it, maybe the fluid isn't being inserted properly, which i am sure can happen. This is my suggestion. Good luck, at the moment i have the opposite problem, i had a top up on monday night and i haven't been able to keep a sip of Water down, so i have been overfilled and i feel extremely uncomfortable, hopefully by tonight all will be fixed for me, although i have to drive 200 km one way to see the DR:angry Cheers jane

"normal" food intake after a fill
flamingnutters replied to Serena's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Update, i was on the phone again to dr surgury this AM and i was crying, 3rd day in and still not able to keep a sip of Water down, so i said i was upset and angry, my kids are having to see me like this and i need to talk to the Dr. So i got a call soon after tosay come over this afternoon to see her after surgery, i am a bit relieved about that but still not happy that i have to drive 200km to get there and then back again, but hopefully by tonight i may be feeling a lot more comfortable. Oh and by the way i have lost 6.5kg since i weighed myself on monday night, this is not how i want to loose the weight, i would saw a bit excessive, and if i kept going this way i would be in hospital on a drip very soon. Cheers Jane -

Thanks Kat, i feel that it is overfill and i feel that i am a big sook, but it is so uncomfortable, i can't even get Water into me, i don't mind being on liquids, but i have kept nothing in for the past 2 days and i have 5 kids to look after that don't need to see me like that, my Dr isn't in the area for another week and then i have to drive 80km to see her, i don't know.......... sort of cheery Jane -
Anyone being banded in May??
flamingnutters replied to margiecandoit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Karyn, thanks for your reply, i am sorry i didn't get back to this earlier, but i couldn't find the forum again, for some stupid reason, i have pasted a post i made in another section with some of the problems i am having at this minute. I am not regretting doing this but i am finding it very uncomfortable a lot of the time and i find it a bit depressing. - repeat post below Hi I am a bit distressed at the moment, i was banded on the 9th may I recovered well, i was able to eat after 2 weeks and was not sick once, and had a 2ml fill after 6 weeks, i was unable to eat much for 6 weeks, i vomited alot and felt terrible, then i was able to eat for the past 2 weeks without having much blockage, then on tues i received 1ml fill and now i can't even keep a sip of Water down, i feel terrible, i spent the day yesterday spitting up all day, and not being able to take in anything with out feeling very tight in the chest and spitting up, i don't even seem to be able to swallow my saliva, has any one else had these sort of problems. I feel awful. I hope this wasn't to graphic Also i had put on a kilo in the last 4 weeks i was very dissappointed, but i have also been going to curves for the past 4 weeks and i hope it is just muscle buildup, because i am losing body measurement, i should stay off the scales. cheers Jane Also I have a lot of gas going on and every burp brings up some sort of Fluid, hense i couldn't go to work yesterday, because i don't think i needed people to hear my belching and vomiting Cheers jane -
Hi Phili, a quick question, apart for feeling your dissappointment i hope things start looking up for you, this is hard enough without this, anyhoo if the weight loss is not showing on the scales do you feel like you are losing it in measurement, are you clothes feeling big on you??? Cheers Jane
