I had my RNY done on Nov 18th ( 2 months and 1week). I will be 65 in July! My surgeon was so positive about helping me go on this life extending journey! We have 10 Grandkids that I want as much time as possible with! I am a type 1 diabetic, had high b/p and open heart surgery 3 years ago .. GERD was so severe it was damaging my lung... I began surgery weighting 252 .. Today I weighed 199 and have lost 20"s .. Off most meds! Insulin down to 28 units from 350.. No GERD, high b/p gone .. The surgery was really pretty easy as is the plan you will stay on. I am eating most things, 64 ozs of fluids and 80 grams protein daily! Learning to love working out and swimming again.. Really! Even enjoying a computer app to track everything... Myfitnesspal.com... I am no comp tech but it is fun learning my way around it. I would of been doing this pre op if I knew about it. It is NEVER TOO LATE to change or reinvent ones self! My only regret is that I did not do this years ago! " Just Do It ". Easy since you get so full on 1/2 cup of food and aren't hungry anymore! Even my rheumatoid seems so much better

I am 2 months out from RNY and get that discomfort in the same area.. Dr is not concerned.. I found a heating pad helps me ( and it is improving each week ) -
Her story made us look bad! Frustration watching.. Yes. Compassion for her .. No and feel guilty but this works only if you are willing to do the work! She clearly was not! Poor son and husband?

Birthsjourney replied to FabBoston03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on the 96 sticks of butter = 24# s loss!! Visualize that a moment! I had RNY on Nov 18th.. Stalled for 3 weeks at a month out .. Lost again for 1 week then stalled for 10 days again! Not carbs.. 64 ozs liquids and 80 grams protein.. Pain in belly when exercising but surgeon said it was my belly hernia repair he did? My NUT made me put my scale in my cars trunk! Lol .. Good move as today I weighed an entered ONEDERLAND --and 20" gone! Trust this works.. Stay on plan.. But download the free Myfitnesspal!! -
Fish question!
Birthsjourney replied to krysten.warren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 months out from RNY and have been almost living on shrimp for a month... I can eat 3-4 and get a lot of protein.. Cheap date in a resturant! Shrimp cocktails are my go to. I was allowed refried beans at a month out.. I don't eat meat so shellfish really helps.. Chew and chew but be sure to listen to your pouch! I had my surgery nov 18th also.. Down 53#s .. Entered ONEderland today!! -
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
Birthsjourney replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 64 and had RNY bypass on Nov 18 '13.... Feeling great, surgery was really not bad at all ( also had an umbilical repair ). No pain meds after day 2... Down 51# and 20".. Eating most all healthy foods now and working out for the first time in 40 years! Lol. Took a few weeks to get the needed fluids and protein all in but other than that, no problems! Should of done it years ago.... -
I LOVE MY FITNESS PAL????... Hubby bought me a fit bit flex wrist band that I have been able to link with MFP... No more writing in daily notebook our surgery team provides! I feel neglectful if I miss a day! Only takes 5 minutes at night and gives you so much info!!

I am so happy to be on this journey to a healthier me! RNY on Nov 18th...lost 45# as of today. My question is how do we get past the stalls I have had . My surgeon says NO WORRIES..be patient. It is normal to have them at one month and 6 weeks out. Your body is learning to adjust. Yes, I did move past both of these now but the first one lasted 2 weeks. Anyone know a trick to help move past it? Please share for us Newbies following your vast knowledge we search for! Thanks ,Dyan from Toledo area in Ohio

Welcome! So many caring folks and great support on these forums.... -
I use MFP and wear a wrist band called FitBit Flex and deal with the same questions... I can track my liquids but they focus on calories not protein count! Thanks for the input on " how" to change or customize my goals!

The dreaded STALL...
Birthsjourney replied to Birthsjourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I consider a stall for me if I go past 10 - 12 days without the scale moving at all! When I follow our plan to the letter....I do see a slow down when I work harder at the health club! What building muscle at age 64? Lol -
The dreaded STALL...
Birthsjourney replied to Birthsjourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your all right about the stalls.. They just kinda do what they want no matter what! My nut ( Shannon to the three of us lol) told me to put my scale in the trunk of my car!! She was right AGAIN... I am now down 51# and 19" since RNY on Nov 18th... Just need to remember to be patient and trust Dr Whites plan.. It works!! Hope your all doing great and hope to see you at the Feb support meeting! -
My nut told me to put my scale in the trunk of my car!! I had RNY on nov 18.. With 3 stalls I was weighing everyday! Making. Me nutso...lol Much happier now.. 19" off.. Feeling great and down 51# at the ripe old age of 64 ????
-
My surgical team only ever allows 5 grams of sugar and 3 grams fat in anything I can eat! Seems tougher than many of you get but I have dropped a quick 51# in about the first 2 months ( have had 3 dreaded stalls that seem to last between a week to 12 days ) ugh. Never rice, pasta or sticky white bread ) I like the PB2 powder in a protein shake if I am coming up short on the 80grams of protein daily..

Friday Weigh-In!
Birthsjourney replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HW 252 SW 245 2 month point. 202 Celebrating the 50# but frustrated with my third stall .. And this close to ONEderland! Maybe next Friday? -
Happy to see our Nov group is moving towards a healthier life! I am doing what I need to do... Work outs are behind even though I joined the YMCA ( which is just a mile away and a beautiful club). I am 64 but that can't be an excuse to not work harder! My other issue is when I fix my meals .. I am not consistent with that 1/2 cup measuring cup! I have just been "guessing" and waiting to feel full.... NOT A GOOD PRACTICE for any of us. I am in my third stall now... Lost and gained the same pound for 5 days.. Down 50# so it is all good.. Started at 252 .. Now 202... So want to be in ONEderland at 199. Anyone else stuck again? My stalls can last for a few weeks UGH

Good wishes to you guys.. 4 days in patient does sound long! I was home the next night .. Christmas shopping in under a week! Take a heating pad to hospital... It will help with carbon dioxide discomfort. Not bad at all.. Walk as much as possible.. I am 7 weeks out and down 48# . Off most meds and loving every minute!

Dining Out Guide for WLS winners?
Birthsjourney posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wonder why no one has published a restaurant guide for national restaurant chains.. Would sure be great to be able to know places that we can count on for low fat, low sugar and high protein choices... Your thoughts? Or input from your experiences? I am only 7 weeks out but find Bob Evans beefy veg soup tasty.. Just leave that corn out.. Also chick o fil grilled nuggets.. -
