My doctor's rule is 18 months before getting pregnant because that will give you time to get your optimum weight loss. If you get pregnant before that you will have to change your eating habits for the baby's sake and you will lose out on all the perks the surgery gives you in that time period. It's just something to consider. And the thinner you are when you conceive the easier the pregnancy will be on you and the baby. I have been using a stick blender to puree my food. I did it with cottage cheese and then put in back in the fridge. It set up and got nice and thick. Tonight I'm gonna try some tuna mixed with cream of mushroom soup and blended up. Kind of like the old tuna casserole without the noodles, Last night I had some fat free refried beans with a few tiny shavings of low fat cheddar. I put that on top and melted it in the microwave. It was good and I'm not that big a fan of beans. It was so good to have something to eat that was NOT sweet!! Anyone else want to share what they've been eating on "PUREE WEEK"?

The doctor told me I could go back in one week and I have an office job...on the computer all day. But I'm taking a bit longer because I was feeling weak. I'm better today, so I should be ok tomorrow. I don't see my doc til 3 weeks from surgery date.

Yes, I can have cream soups, but I am only using the 98% fat free canned kind...not much taste. I get bored with them after a few spoonfuls. I go back to work tomorrow. Still looking forward to some pureed food on Sunday!!!

Thanks dim59. I'm doing my Protein shakes 3 times a day, so getting the protein in isn't a problem. Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I haven't taken pain since 3 days home and the last 2 days were only at night to help me sleep. I am passing some gas, but never have any pains with it. I hope you get some relief soon.

I can start pureed foods next Sunday. Maybe the weakness has to do with the fact that I had 2 days of pretty bad diarrhea last Friday and Saturday. I couldn't even drink anything without it going right through me. Doc told me to take a probiotic and use some benefiber and that did the trick. I tried a little yogurt yesterday, like 2 TBSP. and it didn't set well in my stomach. I hope I haven't developed a problem with milk products.

Question for anyone who is on their 3rd week of liquids only like me....are you still very weak? If you are allowed soft foods already, you won't have the same reactions. Just taking a shower and getting dressed gets me shakey. I was supposed to go back to work today, but took a couple more days because of how I feel.

From what I hear you lost mostly water on the first week of the liquid diet, so the pounds lost the second week are fat coming off. Goodby and good riddance!!! Anyone remember the old routine..."Go You Chickenfat Go." OMG my high school gym teacher used to play that record and we exercised to it. No idea why I just remembered that!! dim59 I can imagine that hurts. I had a 12" long incision down my abdomen when I had gall bladder and hernia surgery a few years ago. That takes a while to heal. I've gone from 350 to 329. It will be nice to see that first number be a "2" soon!!!

Lost 10 lbs. in the week before surgery on liquid diet and have lost 11 lbs. this week. Total of 21 lbs. Yippee!!! Just put on some jeans that hardly coveerd my butt before and the waist pulls all the way up in the back!!! Went through a box of clothes last night...Found pants the next 3 sizes down from what I wear now. At least that will help get me through without buying a lot. I have a lot of stretchy tops that will work for a while...instead of being stretched out they should start fitting well.

It's strange to step on the scale and the pounds are just falling off 4-5 lbs. a day. But I guess with eating only about 500 calories a day that will do it. Still feeling weak though...I thnk my two days of trotzkies did me in. I don't think I can go back to work on Tuesday. Anyone else ready to get back to work yet?

I've really had no incision pain...only took pain meds to help me sleep for 2 nights. I can have sugar free pudding on my liquids, so I think it's ok. I just had so many problems with the trotzkies, doctor told me today to take a probiotic and use benefiber...it seems to be doing the trick. I too had a BM on Thursday & Friday before all "hell" broke loose!!! Glad to see everyone is doing well.

Having a problem with diahrrea. Called the nutritionist yesterday and she told me to switch from the whey protein drinks to EAS which is soy based. Had one last night with no problems, but had one this morning and I'm back with the trotzkies. If this continues I'll call my doctor's cell phone. I don't want dehydration. One good thing about my doctor. You don't have to go through an answering service to get him. He gives his personal cell number and that of his wife who is his nurse.

MJM are potatoes on your list for this week? I would ask the Nutritionist if you can have them. Terribly high in carbs. I am still on liquids for two weeks past surgery.

Once you are awake after surgery you should be able to start walking. There shouldn't be any pain since you are getting good pain meds via IV. I just held onto my IV pole cart and walked. I had my hubby wrap a hospital gown around me backwards to keep my tushie from hanging out!! You can't really get a robe on due to the IV in your hand.

I got in two Premier Protein shakes and 48 oz. of water yesterday plus a popsicle. Not having any heartburn pains. I had a BM finally yesterday and one today. I think that comes back after you get the protein back in your body. What gets me is gaining weight while in the hospital eating absolutely nothing!!!! They say it's from the IV liquids. Scale finally turned around today. Find the same thing as others...don't know how my pouch should be feeling yet. I still am a proponent of walking. That helped me more than anything in the hospital and I'm trying to walk around my house as much as possible. I think it helps get our systems back to normal.

I read this before surgery, but I think I belch when I'm full. I've read when that happens stop immediately...don't take another drink or bite for a bit or you will throw up. I know the normal feelings aren't there yet. I just think of it like my stomach is the size of an egg, and I kind of gauge what I eat to be that size...maybe 2 oz. Then I stop. I really haven't felt anything I would think is hunger.

The main thing for all of us to remember is to stay hydrated!!! We don't want to be put back in the hospital on IV for dehyration....sip, sip, sip!!!

My rear end still hurts a lot...can't figure out why that is....still no pain from the abdomen. I get to start Protein shakes today. I'm not hungry, but know I have to get in the protein and the Water. I hope everyone else is on the mend and home relaxing by now.

I just keep a cup by me and sip all the time. A cup of warm broth went down well this morning. If you haven't had your surgery yet, please listen to everyone and get up and walk as soon as you can afterwards. I had this horrible pain in my left shoulder blade from the gas and the pain pills don't help that at all. I did 4 walking trips during the afternoon and evening of surgery and it completely went away so I could get some sleep (well except for the 8 times someone came in and woke me up for all kinds of stuff). I've got more bruises and puncture wounds from all the IV sticks and blood taking. I had a visit from the bariatric coordinator at the hospital yesterday morning and she told me I was the only one of 6 patients who even got out of bed. The others just laid there and complained although they were told to get up. IT makes a HUGE difference in how good you feel.

Second day home here....doing well getting in liquids. Everything has that metallic taste from the anesthesia. Hopefully that will be gone soon. I had some nausea in the hospital too...but just dry heaves. The medicine to help that knocked me out big time. My whole body aches all over today, but the abdoment doesn't hurt a bit...strange. I'm sure with each passing day we will all feel a lot better.

Got home this afternoon...OMG that leak test upper G.I. is awful...tasted like drinking old soapy mop Water with Pine Sol mixed in...yuck. I had the gas pains in my shoulder blade after surgery too, but after about 4 trips walking up and down the halls it all went away. I think that's the key to getting rid of it. My body aches all over though and I feel like they must have dropped me on my tailbone because my butt hurts a lot. I'm trying to sip water and some Protein shake, but everything tastes really nasty. I hope everyone else is home today and doing well.

Haven't packed yet, but not taking much since it's only a 23 hour stay at the hospital. I have to be there at 6:00 am. and we live 1.5 hours away, so I'll be getting up at 3:45 a.m. to get ready to go. Hey at least I'll get some sleep during surgery!! Good luck to all of us!!

The first day of the liquid diet was hard, but after that I got used to it. From what I understand the purpose of the all liquid diet is to reduce the size of your liver. When you only eat Protein your liver uses up its stores of glycogen (I think that's what it is) and shrinks. It has to be moved during surgery in order to get to your stomach. So if you are cheating, that probably isn't happening because fruit has a lot of carbs. But I see people who have no liquid diets and some no restrictions at all, so I guess it depends on your particular doctor. I want the best outcome possible, so I'm staying strictly to the guidelines. My doctor only allows Clear Liquids the day before surgery, so even a bit more restrictive. Good luck to all of us...Monday will be here before we know it.

Nolagirl...you've got me mixed up with someone else...I didn't say that. Saw the surgeon yesterday...I have a head cold now...sinuses all blocked up. He said as long as I don't get a fever, it won't affect my surgery. I just hate feeling blah like this...not breathing well and having the surgery. Praying that I'll feel better by Monday.
