Dr. Joya

I had surgery with Dr. Joya January 22. I feel like everything went well. I am a nurse and everything at the hospital seemed safe. Stayed at the hotel 10 days post op and did a lot of walking, went to downtown (Malecon) a few times, went swimming, even had a few massages. I loved puerto vallarta! -

Lol! Be positive-you can throw protein shakes in that ice cream maker, or Greek yogurt....maybe your new tummy will like having smaller toaster oven cooked meals! They make baking sets just for toaster ovens:) -

How does going back to work go? Anyone have issues with fatigue, pain, nausea? I'm going to plan to split up my days so none are in a row in the beginning. I'd hate to be in a patient room after lunch and run out to get sick....I'm a worrier, so like to be prepared! -

Thanks for the great suggestions! I am getting sleeved 1/22 in puerto Vallarta. I am not planning on telling co-workers. Did you guys(fellow nurses) get a lot of questions? I'm taking 4 weeks off but haven't thought of the response for why I was off. I know technically no ones business, but I don't expect people to not wonder. -

January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I am getting VSG with Dr. Joya in Puerto Vallarta on 1/22/14. I have purchased a complication insurance, just in case. Question- for those traveling to Mexico whose insurance would not cover surgery in US- who do you contact if there is a complication or suspected leak? Should I get a consult to a general surgeon or a gastroenterologist? I doubt an internal medicine Dr. is able provide much follow up care. Ideally everything will go great, I just want to be prepared and only have an HMO:) -
This Is Pathetic, But I Really Need Some Encouragement

Hi, Sorry to hear about that. I am pre surgery, but can relate to the stress you must be experiencing. Have you tried to see if your doc will prescribe a generic med? Wal-mart can fill generics for 4 dollars. I don't know about the ADD meds, but there are many generic antidepressants. They may not be what works best for you, but may ease your issues until the insurance kicks in. in. You could also try a relaxation audio/download/mp3, one that helps with breathing exercises, which sounds like a placebo, but often we don't take time to "breathe" and it will force you to relax...good luck and congratulations on your surgery!
