Any wls books recomended?
SnohoGal98296 replied to Maltese gal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and The big book of Gastric Sleeve both on Amazon, they both cover WLS and have suggested recipes. Also on Amazon is a book with recipes for WLS shakes, just search protein shake recipes -
Best Place to buy protein shakes
SnohoGal98296 replied to jennlee's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Note that when people discuss adding flavors to shakes with Torani Syrups they mean the Sugar Free version, you can negate your efforts using the full sugar variety. You can find these on Amazon if your local grocery doesn't carry a wide selection. I really love the Nectar Sweets line, which you can find on Amazon in big tubs, or order a sampler packet from MyBariatricpantry.com -

Sleep Apnea Evaluation - Unexpected Requirement
SnohoGal98296 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Survivingsleever and Beeteroo ! I have made my appointment and will get this going, my surgery is June 11th so I want to have this completed. I guess I thought I want going to need it. Beeteroo, you and I sound very familiar, my husband says I snore, but he doesn't think I stop breathing. I have woken up gasping though, but I had attributed it to some bad reflux I have had since getting to be 300 lbs... I realize now I was just hoping to get the surgery and the benefit without having jump through hoops... bad little patient! Oh yeah, I had my HR double check and it is covered! -
Google quest bar, they sell direct from their website, also, I just bought a sampler pack on Amaxon, search there too.

Liquid Diet Headaches?
SnohoGal98296 replied to butterfly2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you cold Turkey drop coffee or soda? Those could be caffeine head aches. Also you could be dehydrated if you are only drinking your shakes. So definitely drink lots of Water. In any case, I have seen many pre-op diet posts where they talk about headaches and say they go away after the 3rd or 4th day, so give it a day. Also try searching headaches or pre-op diets fire previous posts which have lots of info. -
Payment for Surgery
SnohoGal98296 replied to Coryn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am self-pay, my insurance specifically excludes bariatric treatment of any kind, I am required to pay in full before surgery, $18,000. Luckily most of the pre-op testing, blood work, endoscopy, sleep study, psych evaluation, etc. is covered or else the cost would be around $21,000. One way to pay is to borrow from your 401K, the interest is really low, like 3 or 4 % compared to the health care credit cards which are around 19-21% or so I have heard. Another way is to charge it to a regular credit card, that might get you 8-15%... or borrow from family. .. Or a home equity line of credit. .. Just thinking out loud here. -

SnohoGal98296 replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Rants & Raves
Is it mean to say the posts about "I hate Protein shakes what do I eat?" People start recommending Soup, yogurt, clear protein, etc. "NOPES! Hate all that stuff too, help me what do I eat?", is it awful that I want climb the wall at that point?!? Dang it someone just put an Elf on my butt shelf! -

Well there is the big one, the others I seem to have lost somewhere, they were there when I sat down, hmmm... Dusting is definitely a drag, but I just can't help it, I do a little turn and bam that end table is dusted, another little turn and darn it, how did that get knocked on the floor? Oh Yeah, my butt shelf did it! -

I had one, yay I have a stomach :-D

Could you be referring to those folks whose insurance covers their protein supplements? There are posts about folks who applied with a company to get their shakes and vitamins delivered by a company that bills their health insurance. I think the company advertises on BPal's website. ..

"Cheeky Homemade Rub" - is that what they are calling it these days? In that case, two please!

Sleep Apnea Evaluation - Unexpected Requirement
SnohoGal98296 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, that is the frustration, hey spend all these dollars on a test and expensive equipment, but you won't need it in 2 months! I have read that some (obstructive? ) apnea is unrelated to weight, but I imagine I would have had it before if that were the case. .. Only time will tell as I am making my appt like a good patient, I want my surgery to have the best odds and keep my Docs happy with me :-D -
Repetitive and Circuitous Topics....
SnohoGal98296 replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Rants & Raves
While I support everyone getting to ask their questions in their own time I just stew when I see someone write that they know they should use the search function but they don't "wanna"! As someone who lurked for months and then finally started posting, I always search first to see if I can find the answer, because quite frankly, I don't want to wait for hours to see if someone will answer a question, one that likely has been discussed before... Now, where is that Madame Reverie for President booth? 'Cause I want to donate!, love your attitude and the way you bring comedy into everything, we all can use a little comedy! -

Or juice on the rocks, have them add a squeeze of lime and no one will know it isn't a fully leaded drink. .. You could ask for a Virgin Mary, low sugar and veggies on the side :-D -
Well I applaud you for your mature response, I find my inner bitch agreeing with "Bitch Please" and "Bite Me!", I mean really!

Is there a way to prevent scarring?

Lots of sunscreen, it is sun exposure that creates melanin that darkens your skin. -

Your Weight Matters 2014 Convention fundraiser
SnohoGal98296 replied to JeffNewell's topic in The Lounge
My biggest recommendation would be to ask your local WLS center what local companies have insurance that covers WLS and see if any are a good fit for you, that way you get coverage for your surgery. -
How do you focus on goals when you're grieving
SnohoGal98296 replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LynRN, I am so sorry for your loss. I know the world is spinning right now and you won't believe me when I tell you that it will get better, but it will. I lost my Father unexpectedly 17 years ago. It was such a profound loss I thought I would never get over it. But day by day it gets easier, never fear though, it isn't easier because I don't think of him, it is easier because I do. Let me explain, those deep feeling of sadness eventually mature to moments of joy when you remember "Mom taught me that", or realize "Mom would have said this funny thing about that"... Even 17 years later as I sat watching the Super Bowl this year, I thought my Dad would have been texting me something funny because he hated the Seahawks, and it brought me joy. You will get there. For now, embrace your grieving process, but remember your Mom would be encouraging you to take care of yourself. So do her proud, support yourself and your family through this tough time. Hope this is helpful, -
