As a new sleeve I am finding I like their Back to Basics episodes in season 2, but I like their attitudes and recipes for when I hit soft and regular foods. -

Since it takes me 4 hours to drink my 11 oz Premier Protein RTDs I figure I am getting maximum absorption! :-D -
June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
SnohoGal98296 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Patrick, I am on day 8, days 1 - 3 were pretty tough for me, no complications thank goodness, but tough due to all the meds, sleeping in my lazyboy in the family room because laying flat in the bed was a "Nope!", difficulty getting fluids, etc. It can get to you, but with each walk and every sip it gets better, each day goes by and you feel more human! I drove my self to my 1 week appt, I went grocery shopping on Tuesday! It feels good to get outside and feel the sun (that is saying a lot here in the Pacific Northwest!). Two mantras for you: Walk, walk, walk! Sip, sip, sip! Hope you are feeling better soon! -
My plan is to aim for 2 protein shakes a day, but I am advised that water / fluids are my priority. I think Ensure has a low sugar line, look for that, or ask your nut if they have a reason they specify Ensure. There are tons of protein shake options, including making your own...

I am lucky to say that I have the job I believe is my dream job. I too travel the world, well I have been to Europe, Asia, and North America in my 18 years of experience so far. While I would love to visit Africa and work with Lions I must admit that I am at home in a big hangar managing the retrofit of commercial airliners! What I look forward to is air travel without seat belt extenders or possibly rude seat mates who think a fat person is a curse on them, being in Asia without being the gigantic American woman, being able to shop in regular sized stores anywhere - not just Lane Bryant or American department stores, feeling like I can stand on my feet or walk for more than 15-20 minutes without foot/back/leg pain, be able to drive something smaller than an SUV without feeling like I am stuffing myself into a sausage, not being this close to having to order a seat belt extender for my husbands car, I could go on and on.... But all that said - I am totally supportive of anyone who has a dream to change their job/environment after weight loss, lets here those plans!

Yes! My sense of smell has gone through the roof! My husband was teasing me about it because I told him the kitchen sink smelled bad and neither he or our son could smell anything! I am smelling like when I was pregnant with bad morning sickness!

Post Op June 2014 Sleevers
SnohoGal98296 replied to KimGettingSlim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was June 11th too ( you did mean June?) I too have had some head hunger, I can smell my families food (my husband and my kids are all range from extremely fit to just plain fit), and watching tv with food / restaurant commercials and show scenes where people are eating, it has been pure torture at times! But when I get to the point of do I really want eat that? I am so scared of what the food will do to my tummy that I just grab something from my list. Right now I am on full liquids ( will be until Day 14). I find that three things work, a sugar free popsicle - cause it feels solid and takes "work" to consume ( stop laughing boys!), Greek yogurt (it is dense and even more so if you mix in Protein powder), or a savory soup because it feels like dinner because it is not a sweet drink. It distracts me and I feel full on these things, it helps me make it through the day. In my instructions I am not limited on quantities just types of food and atleast two Protein shakes a day. Also, I track my food on myfitnesspal.com and I am surprised to see that I am between 600-800 calories, that helps to know that I have eaten according to plan, even after an added yogurt or soup that I am still at 800 calories. Going for walks when it gets bad, calling/texting a friend/supporter, and, of course, reading bariatricpal help me too! Step away from the ketchup, talk to your Dr about moving to the next phase early if needed! I think if you put your mind to it you got this! -
That's cheating!
SnohoGal98296 replied to a.conners's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Makes me think of that old jokey retort "If you're not cheating, you aren't trying hard enough!", so that's it, we are just trying harder! -
tape and tape marks everywhere

Thanks for all the great tips, my post op appt is tomorrow so I will definitely ask about the remover:-D, but if I can't stand it I will try the oil or alcohol tonight! -
My husband has been doing wings on the smoker, low heat smoke and then finishes with a high heat blast to get them really crispy, they are better than fried if you ask me! We are (maybe I should say "was" for me) wing snobs, so no breading and very little butter in the sauce (not 50/50 like most recipes, maybe 1 tbls to 1/2 cup sauce that is tossed on ~18 wings). They are always a huge hit at parties. I love yogurt Mayo swap mentioned above, do you seed your cucumber coolers?

My instructions say 6 months and then with great moderation because you will be impaired on much less than you were before. Less food to mix with, quicker absorption and all that. On the empty calories aspect, I can appreciate that but I also think that as adults we can decide if it is appropriate to have a cocktail every once once in awhile. But then again, previously I had maybe 1 cocktail every other week or so, sometimes every 2 or 3 weeks, they were not a calorie issue for me. My triggers are all food based.

Post Op June 2014 Sleevers
SnohoGal98296 replied to KimGettingSlim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell us a little bit more about yourself. How have your fluid intakes been? Are you following the clear/full liquid stages? Are you walking in increments up to 40 mins a day? Are you a lower start BMI? All of these things can impact your weight loss... -
following the rules
SnohoGal98296 replied to daw3378's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, My pre op start was 6/1, surgery date was 6/11, my post op appt is tomorrow, today I am down 24 lbs according to my home scale. Tomorrow I will be down another 1-2 lbs if my trend since surgery holds. I too have followed the rules! But I must admit that was more out of fear for my new tummy than what my head hunger was telling me! -
Am I the only one who kinda likes the gurgling tummy?
SnohoGal98296 replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gurgulina - I love it! Your description fits my experience to a T... Lots of gurgles, very few actual burps, taking all the time, only quiets when I have taken a break from sipping (I am day 5 liquids, Jello, melted yogurt only)... -

86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
SnohoGal98296 replied to Dreamin Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My direct inspiration is my Cousin who started in the low 400's, around 420 I think. She started about 8 years ago with the lap-band lost about 100 lbs and had trouble (band was malfunctioning and causing problems) and was revised to an R and Y around 2 years ago - she is now around 200 lbs and I have to say I know she works hard but she is not a fitness addict. I take inspiration from her for sticking to it and taking action when needed. She has kept the weight off even if she isn't a small BMI yet - that equals success to me. -
Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt
SnohoGal98296 replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on Day 4 and I ate about 6 oz of yogurt today too - I took me quite a bit a longer, but for about an hour afterwards I felt as if I had eaten a big meal - I had my husband walk me around the yard, it really helped - walking helps with my tummy rumbling and swallowed air pain. But - I was still surprised that I could consume the yogurt - it took about 30-40 minutes total. I do have to say that today is the first time where I feel more human again. The first 3 days (surgery day being day 0) had me feeling pretty wifty in the head, I couldn't drink anything more substantial than water with a splash of G2, I did find that Unjury Chicken Broth really helped me to be able to consume some protein because I was really worried about how little actually calories I was eating. But today is a new day and I am feeling so good that I am not too concerned about the yogurt. Day 14 is when I transition to Soft Foods. -
Anybody else tired of the attention?
SnohoGal98296 replied to Sleeveless in seattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With today's PC work environments, I am surprised that so many co-workers actually say stuff like what you have shared. In the past two years a popular co-worker has lost quite a bit of weight. I suspected that he has had WLS, but I would never ask him that question directly, if he had shared with me I would've gladly supported him. Every year we go through mandatory prevention of sexual harassment training and it includes warning against comments on someone's appearance - good or bad. As I was researching VSG, I really wanted to share with him but realized I could not. It has been tough, our department has a Breakfast meeting once a week and I noticed that he was drinking shakes out of a shaker bottle - I just wanted to fist bump him and say keep up the hard work! But since he has kept a low profile I have respected that - and technically I guess he could have done this on diet and exercise alone - if so - he has done a great job keeping it off, and I totally respect that. Now, as I had to explain why I was going to be out of the office for two weeks I did tell my co-workers (including this guy) that I was preparing for "abdominal surgery" with a liquid diet. Most of my department members asked if everything was ok? I explained that the surgery was "a good thing" and "something I had to take care of"... mostly because I worry about the same thing - people judging me for how much weight I have / have not lost or perhaps what I am / am not eating. But I realize that going from 302 lbs to possibly 150 lbs is not going to go unnoticed and that my co-workers will put 2 and 2 together and realize I had WLS. I will cross that bridge when I come to it - I guess that is why I was I didn't say something like I am having a hernia fixed, so I won't be up against a lie. Maybe he will recognize it and mention it or not, if he did I would accept it as supportive and hope he will do the same from me. -
Surgery was Wednesday, Is today Day 3 or 4?
SnohoGal98296 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Guys, My plan says Clear liquids day 1 - 3 and full liquids day 3 - 14. My surgery was Wednesday the 11th, so was Wednesday afternoon day 1 or day 0? If course it is Saturday and a call to the Doctor would be a page.... Should have thought of this yesterday I guess... -

SnohoGal98296 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the responses. Me too, thinking of day 0, I mean. I was feeling kind of low blood sugar today, my notes say to try no sugar added juice and that did help, tomorrow I am hoping that adding full liquids will help me consume more, I am having a real hard time getting my fluids down in the quantities I think I should be. Lots of swallowed air, I am gurgling all the time! -

June 11th - Today is VSG Day!
SnohoGal98296 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am feeling ok, I am still struggling to get my Clear liquids in, tiny sips are so hard! You feel like you are guzzling, swallowing air, but you have only accomplished less than ounce in 5 sips. I had an issue where my arms were very sore, not the gas shoulder pain, but sore muscles in every muscle in my arms, the Doc said it was likely an anathesia thing, that I tensed up before the relaxation meds kicked in. But my arms feel much better today. Otherwise my tummy feels about as good as you would expect, the liquid pain meds are working for me. Today I want to walk more, I have been doing turns about the yard and around the house, but maybe today we can walk down the street for a little but longer walk.
