My weight loss had slowed to crawl as well. HW was 290, currently at 171 with about 26 lbs to go. The last 2 months I think I've only dropped a couple of pounds a month. My diet and liquids have been spot on. I thought I could just wait it out, but it's looking like I may needs to figure out a course of action. My calories are pretty consistent at around 1,100-1,200, under 20 carbs a day. I'm thinking I may need to cut back to 800 to get the rest of this weight off. Ugh!

I think that when we follow the rule of protein first, then veggies, fruit and finally complex carbs, we naturally are eating lower carb simply because we just won't have the room for them. I think where many get into trouble is when they change up that order and carbs are eaten before protein. Most of us need to make a point of being vigilant to these rules. It's so easy to get a little off track and get derailed.

Becoming depressed after a little over 2 years
Cindy vsg replied to Quel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for posting this. It reminds all of us that we have to be vigilant and that really is a life long journey. I think you need to forgive yourself for getting off track and get back to business. I would go back to basics, act like you've just had surgery and tomorrow is your first day home. Concentrate on getting in all your Water and drink Protein shakes for a day or 2, then progress on, eating protein first. Make sure your following all the "rules" like in the beginning. Take yourself back there and give yourself a "do over" reminding yourself you had surgery and have a great tool that needs to be used appropriately -
Fighting To Keep My Perspective
Cindy vsg replied to MorningGlory's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I'm 5'6", weight 174 and still wear a L/XL tops and 14/16 pants. I have 29 lbs to go, but I suspect that until I can manage a tummy tuck, I'll always wear at least a 12 in pants. We're all shaped differently, either we commit to working out butts off to fix what we can and get plastics on the rest or embrace our success and carry on. The way I see it, when I weighed 290lbs, I didn't look good in clothes or naked. Now at 174, I still don't look good naked, but I do look a lot better in clothes you'll get to the reg sizes, you're almost there -

Protein vs. Calories
Cindy vsg replied to browneyedgirl1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When the premiere protein shakes are tasting too sweet to me, I just an oz or so of milk and it makes it much better. -
I am taylormomof6 with a new user name. I had gastric sleeve 10/24/2013 at KMC, paid for by Kern Family Heath Care, Medi-cal. I did have to pay $1000 program fee and $65 for the nutritionist, the rest was covered, including all tests and the psyc. Kelly runs the program and is great dealing with insurance. I was approved within a week of submital. I'm thrilled with my decision and have lost a total of 111lbs and counting. I still have 34lbs to get to my goal.

Does liquid pre-op dieting slow weight loss post-surgery?
Cindy vsg replied to WorldTraveler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 months out, he 290 and lost 61lbs in the 6 months prior to surgery and have lost 50 lbs since surgery. My rate of loss is 10lbs a month, prior to as well as after surgery. I can't really say if I would have lost at a higher rate after surgery if I'd not lost so much prior, but I'd guess yes, simply because when you weigh more, it usually comes off a bit faster, but either way, it was weight I had lost and I felt like I was ahead of the game -
slow losers I want to hear from you!
Cindy vsg replied to ucjes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a slow loser too, 34lbs since 10/24. Sure, I'd love it to be faster, but I'm doing my part. That's all I can do. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what I could do to change it, but I just had to change my concentration back to following my plan and away from how quickly the scales moves. Honestly, I really wouldn't care so much if I knew that someday I'm going to get to goal, but it's terrifying to think that my "honeymoon period" is ticking away and my body hasn't let me take advantage of it. I fear I won't be successful and that scares the daylights out of me. -

Do you work for your weight loss or do the pounds just fall off?
Cindy vsg replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 10/24. I lost 10 lbs the first 12 days, after that I've worked for every pound. I've lost 28lbs since surgery. I eat clean, low carb and track everything. I move my body everyday. I'm not exactly thrilled with my rate of loss and yes, I lost faster many times on diets before surgery. The only thing I can think of is that I lost 60 lbs in the 6 months prior to surgery on Atkins, so I guess my body was used to it, but whatever the reason, it's slow, but I've lost almost 90 lbs since April. Have 56 lbs to go and I will get there, fast or slow I do sometimes get jealous reading about others that just eat smaller portions of what they ate before surgery and lose faster than I do, but all I can do is follow the rules and the rest is up to my body -
Protonix worked for me when Prilosec and Pepcid didn't. I also think it got better when I started waiting at least 45 mins after eating to drink rather than the 30 minutes I was told to wait.

How Much Did You Lose 3 Months Out?
Cindy vsg replied to Bombs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just over 2 months out. Surgery weight was 229 and now I'm 202, so 27 lbs, which seems pretty slow to me. My Dr gave me permission about 10 days ago to eat very low carb (under 30g) and I've lost 3 lbs since then. I'm hoping low carb helps me lose a bit faster. Either way, I feel better and don't have hunger or cravings so I'm sticking to it -
I set alarms on my phone too. Otherwise I'll get distracted and drink too soon or forget all together.
-
I was told 30/30, but was battling hunger, so I experimented a bit and am doing 10/50 and the hunger issue is much better. I first tried 30/60, but also had the problem of not enough drinking time.
-
A little slow, but my surgeon just put me on a low carb diet, which I'm comfortable with, so I'm hoping it picks up very soon. HW-290 SW-229 CW-205

I'm only 2 months out so I don't know yet, but I've got my protein in since day 2 and I'm not losing fast, so I hope that between the 2, I'll be ok without hair loss.

The 11 Most Destructive Nutrition Lies Ever Told................
Cindy vsg replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm curious, are you, or did you, do an Atkins like diet soon after surgery? If so, do you think it helped you be more successful? I ask because I've been doing some searching, trying to find out if that's the direction I want to go. I am 6 weeks out and don't have a lot of confidence in my Drs plan of high protein/low fat/mid carbs. I lost 60+ lbs in the 6 months before surgery eating Atkins. I know my body and I do so much better eating low carb. Like others have said, the food demons go into hibernation and I feel like a normal person. I'm really not having issues with it right now, but I've still kept carbs low. In addition, I was losing the same amount of weight before surgery as I am since surgery (except the first week), so I'm wondering if I'd lose better eating high protein/mid fat/low carb (20g net). I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. -
Emotional Rollercoaster
Cindy vsg replied to voutman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition to everything Laura wrote, our hormones are going crazy between the stress of surgery, losing weight and estrogen being released from our burned fat. You need to talk to someone, a family member, a friend and have them checking on you since it sounds like you're having it pretty bad. Hugs! I hope you feel better soon. -
First Two Weeks Post-Op
Cindy vsg replied to MindiJean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you need to worry about what's expected. Each person and each experience is different. Some of us leave the hospital having gained from all the extra fluids and sometimes it takes the body a while to get rid if it. I think you should just concentrate on following your plan and your body will do what it's going to do. Don't worry about what others expect your results to be All that being said, I lost 11 lbs in 12 days, then nothing for a week and it's been 2-3lbs since then. I'm 5 weeks out. -
October 2013 Sleevers Roll call!
Cindy vsg replied to nik2nite's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had turkey and ham first, then had a bite of whatever else I wanted (dressing, cranberry, yams, mashed potatoes) and stopped when I felt full. I normally stay under 20g of carbs and eat mostly dense protein. The interesting thing was, I stayed full longer after eating what I considered to be "slider" foods that I do normally, eating dense protein. I'm not sure what to make of it. -
Never Full, Constantly Hungry
Cindy vsg replied to Katharine83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was having hunger issues as well, but increased the time it wait to drink after eating from 30 minutes to an hour and it helped. I'm able to drink normally, so I guess I was washing the food out faster than I would have if I could only just sip.
