First month...down 31 lbs!
sleeversue replied to sleeversue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats girls!!! Time sure is flying by. Isn't it nice to actually be on some good food finally? I'm finding the meats are going down better every day. My daughter made chicken enchiladas yesterday and I enjoyed the insides... shredded chicken, salsa, kidney beans, and a pinch of low fat cheddar cheese. She sent me home with the left overs and froze some. I can't handle the same thing over and over. So many things I like my husband doesn't and I can't eat it four times in a row. I did that with some fish and finally and to freeze the rest. At one month out are you finding your stomach can hold a little more? I seem to be getting the meat down easier. -
Need names of good protein powder
sleeversue replied to NewLife4Me7's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My favorites are Unjury Strawberry Sorbet and Chocolate Splendor. I too make the strawberry lemonade drink with Crystal Light Lemonade. I put 7 ice cubes in my magic bullet, add 1/2 cup of water and 1 scoop of Strawberry Sorbet Unjury. Tastes so good. I also like Chocolate Splendor with ice, 1/2 cup of milk, and when you mix it is like a Wendy's Frosty. I even eat it with a spoon it is so thick. YUM! I use this especially when the family is having ice cream. I feel like I have my treat too!! I also like the Isopure Grape Frost. The other flavors don't appeal to me. -

I've had problems with the hiccups and extra gas too and found the Extra Strength Gas X strips help a lot. I use a cpap machine and haven't found it causing any problems. -

I'm so sorry to hear you are going through some rough times Kat619. It does get better. I couldn't do anything cold at first because I also had a hiatal hernia repair, but now they are my best friend! Love to chomp on them!I found broth to be soothing to the stomach also. Now that I am 4 weeks out, things are much better and I know it will get better for you too. Just hang in there. I did find at the beginning that sipping as much as I could was helpful in healing and getting my liquids in. I love Cyrstal Light Lemonade, ice, and 1/2 cup of water mixed with Strawberry Sorbet Unjury protein powder. Very delicious and quenches my thirst. Plus 21 gr. of protein! I also love ice, 1/2 cup of milk, and 1 scoop of Unjury Chocolate Splendor. I mix it in my magic bullet and it comes out like a Wendy's Frosty. I eat it with a spoon! Works great when I am with the family and they are having ice cream. -
well I told my parents..didn't go well
sleeversue replied to countrygrl1978's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are doing it for you and it will be the best decision you ever made. My heart goes out to everyone who doesn't have their families' support. I am thankful for my husband who has been awesome this past month since i was sleeved. I was afraid to tell my mom too. I am 66 and she is 88, but she saw it on abc news a couple of days before I told her and was all for it because she heard of the health benefits and the possible cure for diabetes. I am on my way!!!! I have already had my blood pressure med cut in half and am down from four injections of insulin a day to only one and a very low dose. It is ALL worth it! -
Depends where you are in your journey, but I like lemon sugar free pudding with unflavored Injury protein powder, popsicles..sugar free of course, yogurt...love Dannon Light and Fit, even have it in Key Lime and Raspberry chocolate flavors, string cheese, rolled up turkey luncheon meat slice. I'm always looking for ways to get in my protein. If you are 8 weeks out or more, I can't wait to have Power Crunch Mint Chocolate bars and FIT raspberry brownie bars. You can find those at the Vitamin Shoppe.

I was told not to worry about protein drinks the first four days, just get down the liquids. I did popsicles. Maybe that would help. I also liked Isopure Grape Frost flavor after a couple of days. Keep sipping the water or you will end up dehydrated. It will get better every day. Everyone I know, myself included have burps. Gas is common. Keep walking even around in the inside of your house. The more walking you do the better it will feel. -
290 calories for Greek yogurt? EEEEKKKK...
sleeversue replied to marfar7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is high! WOW!!! Must have a lot of sugar. My NUT told me to eat Dannon Fit and Light Greek Yogurt...80 cal. 12 grams of Protein. I love it! -
Is it possible to get too much protien in one day?
sleeversue replied to beachgurl84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I asked my NUT this very thing yesterday and she said no unless you get over 100 grams on a consistent basis because I have gone over 80 a couple of times. -
Stall @ week 3? Seems to soon for that?
sleeversue replied to TaylorR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was told that a 3 week stall is quite common because they body is adjusting to the surgery. It happened to me and then I lost 4 lbs. this fourth week. -
Super stalls around 7th month post op?
sleeversue replied to acspringhill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A stall was mentioned at our support group meeting last night and one guy said he went back and did the liquid diet first week program and the leader confirmed that this is a good choice...its called a restart. You push the restart button and the guy lost 6 lbs. Just make sure you get in your protein. -
Recently Lost a Best Friend Because of My Decision to Get Bariatric Surgery
sleeversue replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Be prepared that after your surgery you will find out even further who your true friends. I told three close friends about my surgery and only ONE called me afterwards to encourage me and see how I was. One finally called after two weeks and the other one I still haven't heard from three weeks out. It hurts, but I have to push on. My husband called my mother after the surgery and I called her when I got home and I did not hear from her for two weeks. Do you know what would have happened if I didn't call my mother if she had surgery for two weeks? Also, my sister, called me when I got home, then didn't hear from her for a week, and that was an email and haven't heard from her since. How hard is it to ask how someone is doing with a short email or text? It would be better than nothing. It just makes you realize that you need to support your friends when they go through surgery, illnesses, or a crisis in their lives. -
I take small bites and chew them up real well. I don't think the food gets stuck, but it makes the stomach have to work harder to chew it up if you don't chew it up real well. I was told to make it like mush in your mouth. Yogurt goes down real well and I started on canned chicken yesterday and it took me 45 minutes to eat it.

shirtsleeve, I have heard a number of people say that you can often go even a week without losing weight. It is the body adjusting to the weight loss. I am only two weeks out and I've heard the third week is often a slow weight loss week so I will see. I am now on pureed foods and my NUT told me to start eating three meals a day with snacks in between and of course sipping water, and protein drinks in between. I have always been a water drinker so its pretty easy for me, but I have a friend who found it difficult and found herself in the hospital on IV fluids for 4 days at 3 months out, so just make sure you keep drinking.

30something, Dr. Katz did my sleeve two weeks ago! He's the best! -
I want to try making some popsicles and add crystal light flavor of choice + a scoop of unflavored Unjury. You get 21 grams from one scoop. I love putting a Lemonade Crystal light with a scoop of Unjury Strawberry Sorbet for a Strawberry lemonade drink. Very good and refreshing! They would probably make good popsicles too.

I can buy Unjury at my Doctor's office, at a local pharmacy or online from the company. They advertise on this site. It does mix well. -

I like the Unjury brand of protein. They have unflavored that you can add to soups, puddings, and even eggs and beans. They also have chicken broth, strawberry sorbet and chocolate splendor which I like for making shakes with either water or milk. Great taste and very soothing on the stomach. -
sleevegirl2, I didn't like the Isopure Fruit Alpine either but the Grape Frost is very good. I use that all the time, plus I like the Unjury shakes, Chocolate Splendor and Strawberry Sorbet.

Second thoughts on sleeve
sleeversue replied to MrsHarris's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally for me, I didn't want the RNY because I did not want them to touch my intestines. I probably wouldn't have had the surgery if that was my only option. There are also a number of problems with certain foods afterwards and I did not want that dumping syndrome. -
Shersun, we live in Lake Wales, FL in the winter. It is about 45 minutes south of Orlando off of US 27. Love it there. It is a 55+ community and there is so much to do there. I will be excited to get back there after my weight loss and enjoy so many more things.

I didn't read all the replies, but what works for me when I have gas pains is Extra Strength Gas X strips. They dissolve on your tongue and work great. Also, walking. I got up and walked whenever the gas was building up. I had my surgery on May 21st. so close to yours. I hope you are doing better now. Every day improves for me.

outrigger42, I had a very large hiatal hernia and I only had trouble with cold drinks hitting the repair spot for about 4 days. After that, it has been fine. I don't even feel at almost 2 weeks out that I had surgery. I think you will be surprised at how quickly it heals.
