At what size...

@snohogal- you are going to love it. I am a slowish loser, but still it is awesome to drop sizes. -
At what size...
NothingUpMySleeve replied to NothingUpMySleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'd love to be a 4, but if I leveled out at an 8, I'd be ok. Right now I'm at 10/12 and I am definitely on the puffy side of average. -
Almost 5 months out, still borderline dehydrated

I drink g2 and warm herbal tea when I can't take more plain water. Sometimes the g2 really settles my stomach. It does have calories though. -
My first month sucked. I felt like such a loser that everyone had these huge one month numbers except me. But then my second month was awesome. Hang in there!

How often do you weigh yourself?
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Every day! I tried the once a week thing, and found it more discouraging. I weigh every morning but I only record it when it's a new low, which means recording my weight is always happy and it captures those .2 losses. I don't freak out if one day is higher as long as trend is down. -

Help with slow weightloss

I do better when my calories are in the 600-700 range. I'm guessing my maintenance will be around 1100. -
Disappointing show, everyone still fat!
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Seela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I once worked with a petite woman who had gastric bypass, who went from maybe a size 18 down to a 16 or maybe a big 14. I was happy for her, but I'll admit, I did kind of think to myself that it was sad to go through surgery to only change a size or so. But for all I know, her health improved a ton. A few months later she transferred to my department, though, and I noticed that although she didn't eat a lot at once, she was eating treats all day long. It was a good cautionary tale for me. I will be very disappointed if I'm big a year from now. -
17 Months Out Progress

I'm curious about the brutal honesty, lol. What parts of your experience were different or unexpected? -
I can't even imagine what it would be like...
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone gets scared (mostly) because this is a scary thing. But right now my dad is sick and dying from never taking charge of his diabetes and health, which is also scary. This surgery helps prevent that from being my future. I'm three months out and I eat pizza. I can have like 3 bites and then I'm satisfied. I eat it slooooowly because there isn't much room. I am not sad at all about this. -
How important is your goal weight for you?
NothingUpMySleeve replied to green*eyed*girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I want to weigh 125. Even if it's just for a moment. There's no real particular reason, but I do know my body is capable of that size. I'm 5'3. -
Some people just lose slowly. I'll hit my three month surgiversary next week and I've lost just over 20 lb. Am I disappointed? Yes, but still...it's a loss. I'm vigilant about calories, but it is what it is. Some of us just aren't ever going to lose quickly...

It gets so much better. The first week is tough, first month even...then it just gets easier.

All these complications...is it worth it?
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My experience was like Andrews above. I had internal bleeding, a clot, and a second surgery. I felt my surgeon was good. The first month I was consumed with regret--very slow loss, nausea, etc. Now that I'm nearly 3 months out, I feel better about stuff. I have lost half my hair, but I've gone from a 14 to almost a 10. Despite the hair loss, I already feel so much more confident. It's a really personal decision--give yourself lots of time to decide. -
How much did your surgery cost?
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine was $4500, plus 300 or so for a flight. -
Does anyone use Gywwnie Bee?
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Bronco0605's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did it for a month but cancelled, mostly because I am getting too small for their stuff (words my fingers have never typed). Good selection, good service, the clothes do tend to run quite big, but the commenters are really detailed in explaining the fit. -
I need some advice!

Yeah, I think when we start tracking poop calories, we will have gone too far. -
Sleeve weight loss times?
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Llunker's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I once read something? Somewhere? that you could shoot for losing 10% of your body weight the first month and 5% each month after that. So, if you started at 240, you could shoot for losing 24 lb the first month, putting you at 216, then about 11 lb (5%) and so on. This seems to hold more true at higher BMI levels, though. Very frequently I see that people AVERAGED 10 lb per month, with the results more front-loaded, for example, 60 lb in 6 months or 80 in 8 months, but slowing down as time goes on. I haven't seen many women lose more than 10 lb or less than 5 lb a month once the first month is done. I'm no expert; I just read tons of tickers. There is just a tremendous amount of variability. I'd say give it a year because that also gives skin some time to rebound if it's going to. -

I'm also in the SLC area, as is one of my friends who used dr illan. Feel free to message me if you have questions. -
Sleeve for 13 year old. Doctor recommendations Mexico

I thought Dr Illan with Baja Bariatrics had a calm gentlemanly demeanor that would not be intimidating to a young girl. For what it's worth, I would not want my daughter to face junior high being heavy. Being bullied doesn't build character, it chips away at you. Dr Illan has a Facebook group and there is one other younger girl on there, maybe 17 or 18? It is a very supportive and non-judgmental group. -
I want to take my kids to disneyland and not hide from getting pics with them. I want to take them to a splash park and be the mom in the cute tank and shorts or sundress, not the mom in hot baggy jeans and loose tee.

how much food can u hold?
NothingUpMySleeve replied to melissa2u's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I can eat about half of a small cheeseburger if I take the top bun off. 7 weeks out. Sometimes I can fit an egg, but other times a few bites of string cheese will stuff me. -
Any sleevers with low BMI Range 32-35
NothingUpMySleeve replied to Back2BnPetite's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think my Bmi was like 32? I did self pay in Mexico. Brace yourself for the fact that you will lose much, much slower than the stories you see here. People who started heavier than me at the same time are now lighter than I am. I somewhat regret the sleeve, but on the other hand who knows how fat I would have gotten without it. I do have a friend who was even smaller, and she's lost 25 lb in 8 wks. I lost 4 lb in 5 weeks. On the plus side, it really reduces hunger and sweet tooth. -
Personally I do about 70 oz of Water per day and about 70 grams of Protein. Calories range from 400-700 or so, with my typical day coming around 600 lately. I typically have one premier Protein shake per day, with the remainder of protein coming from turkey, chicken or egg. I do have to supplement with Protein powder some days. I can't eat a whole egg yet, usually. I cut the meat very small and it's tough to eat more than a few bites at a time. I can fit more of the protein Soups and shakes. Last week I tried a slice of cake that was perhaps half the size of a postit note. I started getting flushed and shaky and I had to lie down. It was weird but at least I don't have to worried about being tempted by baked sweets again! I have followed my diet instructions very carefully. I do, however, need to add more intense exercise more often. I am trying to be patient. Good luck to my fellow very slow losers.
