gaining weight after 6 yrs of surgery
rosettag replied to craiga4274's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Head huger? I have been banded for 2 years and 9 months, but head hunger sometimes comes back when I am dissatisfied with my life or worried about something. On such occasions food is powerful and appealing and it seems to promise the solution to what I don't like in my life. What a big lie! -

Motivational/Inspirational Quotes

We are powerless over a lot of things in our lives, but what we put into our mouths depends on us -
One day at a time.. When I've to face something difficult, I think I have to arrive at bedtime only. I'm powerless over past and future. Only for today I can manage.

6 months post op with no fill.
rosettag replied to lauren_frances's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Lauren!Congrats! you are doing great I was banded in May 2011 and had my first fill in June 2012. My surgeon had put 1.5 cc into my band during surgery, because he says, patients need to feel their band from the start. I lost more than 100 lbs during that first year. My surgeon insisted on adding another 1.5 cc because, he says, when one loses weight, they lose also the fat around their stomach and the band becomes loose, like a belt. During the second year I gained 10 lbs. Now I neither gain nor lose weight. I'd like to resume my journey, but I'm no loger so motivated as I was at the beginning. Maybe with the help of all of you I'll manage to arrive at the normal range..Who knows? -

Years ago I was complaining about my situation, but doing nothing to change it. A friend of mine asked me :"What do you do if you put a hand on a fire?" "I take it away!!!" "Why?" "Because it hurts" "Well, if you do nothing, it means that it doesn't hurt enough" Might it be the case of that( unpleasant )woman? -
Congrats! You sound so determined and aware. Determination helps not to give up and awareness not to have unrealistic exepectations

When I decided to have WLS my weight had been increasing for years. It is true that you haven't lost weight, but how much would you have gained since 2005 if you hadn' t had your band? And now you can resume your journey..and be successful

Congrats!! The two suits belong to two different people.. : - ) I've an only pair of enormous jeans left from my obese days. Every now and then I take them out of the trunk where I 've put them..just to remind me of how fat and unhappy I was and to reinforce my resolution not to come back.

rosettag replied to anissa_walls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Anissa!!! Losing weight without any "help" is very difficult, if not impossible. But you succeeded in doing it. With the support of your band you' ll reach your goals (which are ours, too) : health, reasonable weight, incresed self-esteem ... Hugs! -
Got an appt next week with surgeon to remove band
rosettag replied to donna12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Health comes first. You have made the right decision and I wish you health and serenity...and the best things. I would be very sad if I had to part from my band, it would be as if I lost a friend. -
Pinky, trying to be informed about what you are going to do is right and understandable. But, if you go on collecting information (above all in the internet where anyone can say anything), you'll unavoidably find people who have been disappointed or worse..it is a question of statistics I would suggest finding a surgeon you trust and few reliable people whose opinions you consider sensible , and making your your decision. Hugs!!!!

Well, I did it! :-)

The faster heart rate might be a consequence of the gas they introduce into our abdomen during surgery.. Has it ever happened to you that your heart has more beats when you have eaten too much and your stomach is too full? -
Need suggestions on Fills
rosettag replied to hildebrant's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my band filled a little ( 1.5 cc ) in the operating room when I had surgery. That was on May 10th 2011. I had my second fill (the surgeon added another 1.5 cc ) after a year, in June 2012. During that year I lost 52 kg . I was never hungry and, above all, I had lost interest in unhealthy food. My band and my mind worked well together, which is much more difficult now. My band keeps doing its task, but my mind has started craving for "forbidden " food, that sort of food which can easily pass through the band. I should have my brain banded..It is so difficult sometimes not to use food for reasons that have nothing to do with nutricion. As I read somewhere If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the solution -
Is this a good idea?

It's supposed to mean (loosley translated) "Conquer or die" did I get it right? Right!!!!"vincere" means " to win". I'm sure you 'll win -
I wish I hadn't gotten the band
rosettag replied to maestrita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You mean that a "healthy" obese perso can solve their weight problems in other ways than having WLS ?I decided I woud have WLS when a cardiologist said to me " In the USA, where they are much ahead, they have realized that very few obese people succeed in losing weight and, among these very few, few succed in maintaining their weiight loss, unless they get help fron some kind of WLS." Thanks for your posts. They made me think and consider things from a different point of view -
Is this a good idea?
rosettag replied to vincereautmori's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did it all on my own. I felt my husband's disapproval of my being obese even if he never told me anything about that. I told him a few weeks before my surgery. He is skinned, has never had weight problems, and is easily satiated with small quantities of food. I often think he has a band..around his brain. But if your wife is supportive and you feel better if you can share your decision with her, why not? Travelling alone (I compare my banded life to a long journey) can be a bit hard and a bit sad. I see you have a Latin nickname..I studied Latin for 8 years... -
Stuck, just stuck! Help
rosettag replied to beautiful_amazon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started eating "something more" and " something different" (different from the healthy food I should keep to ) at Christmas...and now I find it hard to go back to my healthy food I've never followed a pre-op diet, but, after reading your advice to beauty, I think Icould go on a sort of pre-op diet. -

You'll be better soon! I remember that getting out of bed was a demanding task. I had pushed my bed near the door and grapped the handle to be able to sit up.I was luck they were of good quality.. -
I hope you can find a way to have your band and your new life. Here in Italy WLS is free for those who need it.. Hugs!!

Looks Yummy! Unfortunately I can eat EVERY thing there including cupcakes, I probably can eat 3 cup cakes in 1 sitting! I don't keep my band dangerously too tight to not eat junk food...LOL...they will slide right down... I have to have discipline I 've made the same decision since I'afraid of possible issues caused by a tight band. I have to rely on my willpower and sense of discipline. But when it comes to chocolate..willpower doesn't work, because mine is addiction! Maybe I had better not eat chocholate at all. Have you ever heard a doctor telling a drug addict : " have just a bit" ?

Hi just found this site. 2 months post-op
rosettag replied to CarmenLeAn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First of all, congrats to you, Carmen. You are really doing great!!!Then, thanks to B52 for reminding me what taking part in a forum in the internet means. It might seem odd my participating in an American wls surgery, since I'm Italian and I have to use a foreign language to communicate and share with you. There was an Italian forum, but after 3 years it stopped working for me. Too muche emotional involvement, which sometimes turned into gossip.. -
I can eat anything if I chew it well, but there are some foods whose taste I don't like if they are chewed too long, like rare steaks or some kind of fish, above all shell fish. Before being banded , I used to eat huge amounts of pizza, but now it is a bit difficult because melted mozzarella, if I don't swallow it fast, turns into a sort of chewing gum. Small problems, if compared to the joy of being healthy and fit!
