Hey there! I was banded on 9/21 and my dr. put me on mushies 9/26. Up until that point I had lost 18.8 (since 9/5) and then when I started on mushies I struggled to find healthier items to eat and stayed the same for 3 days. I have given up the delicious cheesy broccoli Soup (330 calories and 33 grams of fat...YIKES!) and found healthier replacements. I am a bit frustrated with how much I want to eat and how I can feel myself start to push the limit. I get a fill on 10/17 and my goal by my birthday is to lose 11.2 more pounds, so I have to continue on this healthy path and keep exercising every day! Good luck everyone and keep your chin up! It will come off!

I thought I would be back to work on Tuesday after a Friday surgery and NO GO! I actually have an office job as well, but did not feel able to go back for 7 days and actually took off 9 days because of weekends. I am a workaholic and it killed me to be home. I tried going in one morning and by the time I was ready to go, I felt like I needed to lay down. When I got to work, I had hot flashes and felt wiped out. I guess what I am saying, is be careful about your plans in that first week, because they don't always go as planned! Good Luck to you!

Supermama-I too was banded on 9/21. I have major port pain, and am having sharp pains in that area when I breathe. I go to the doc tomorrow at 11:15. I had the opposite problem from diarrhea and that wasn't fun either! I planned on being back at work today, but won't be going until Thursday at the earliest. I hope you are doing well.

I too had surgery on the 21st and I thought I would be feeling better. The heating pad is definitely my friend for the gas pains in my chest and shoulders. I am having a very difficult time getting all of my liquids down. I have no desire to eat anything, which is soo unusual! Congratulations everyone!

Well, I am banded. How long until I feel normal again? All I have been doing is sleeping, taking pain meds, sipping Water and trying to drink Protein shakes. the nutritionist wants me to eat 1000 calories a day, plus 64 ounces of water and a snack in between. I can't even hardly get the 70 grams of protein in each day. I was hoping to go to work on Tuesday because I have a 2 day training, but I am not feeling like I will be able to at this point. Anyone go back to work 5 days after surgery?

Surgery on Friday, 21st...Anyone else?
Time4Me replied to darr5380's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi 9/21's. I went in for surgery at around 10:30 on Friday. I slept through recovery, the hour drive home and until 1:30 am Saturday morning. I am still very sleepy and having gas pains in my chest, but not really my shoulders. Today was the first day I felt soreness on the insie instead of just the incisions. I have been drinking Myoplex chocolate Protein shakes 3 times a day, a Jello or pudding for a snack and some broth for another snack. I have always been a huge Water drinker, but I am having difficulty because I am kind of scared to drink too much. I also haven't been able to go big potty, which I am sure is causing some of my discomfort. Someone recommended a stool softener and I didn't buy it, so I guess it's my own fault. Honestly, it hasn't hit home yet that this is my life now! I have to be on full liquids for 2 weeks and mushies for 2 weeks, then I get a fill and am on my way! I think I am going to go take a nap! Congratulations everyone! -
Hi everyone- I am 12 days into my pre op diet, Medi Fast. It actually hasn't been too bad. I have lost 17 lbs according to my scale...I have to lose 20 by Friday, surgery day. I am getting very nervous, thinking about food A LOT! I did all of my shopping for my Vitamins, Protein drinks, Jello, heating pad, ice pack, you name it..this weekend, so that I would be 100% prepared. I even bought a new laptop for work, so that I can work while I am in bed. Did anyone else begin to doubt their decision and feel like you found out more negative stuff as it got closer? I don't usually get nervous about this kind of stuff, but I am not too sure I will sleep much this week. I wonder...will I lose the weight or will it be back to the same old stuff? Paying $17000 should make me stick to it, don't you think?!? Looking forward to hearing everyone's progress. :nervous:nervous

Chris_77: I am being banded on 9/21 and would love to have someone on the same day to chat with.

katmeg99-If I drink alcohol, it is a guaranteed 3-10 pounds depending on how much I drink...I think it's all the sugar turning to fat, unfortunately. Drink LOTS of Water to flush it back out. I am on day 5 of my medifast journey to lose 20 by the 21st and I have been thinking of celebrating my 10 pounds, but you convinced me I shouldn't! Just get back on track and you will be good to go!
-
katmeg99-I, too, had to lose a large amount in a short amount of time. I have to lose 20 pounds in 16 days. I have lost about 7.5 pounds in 4 days and hoping I can keep it up. Good luck to you. Unfortuately, I would eat the tomato. What does your diet consist of? I am on Medifast and 1 lean and green meal which saves me!
-
I am on day 2 of medifast, not pure liquids, but as I said earlier I have to lose 20 by the 21st, so I have been sticking to it like glue! I will weigh tomorrow morning and hopefully have lost a few pounds. Of course I will have to let everyone know.
-
Julie-I am curious to hear your progress as the days go by. I want to know what I have to look forward to, especially in the first few weeks. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Poohlvr-I just got home from my consult and I am a go! There was a rough moment where the dr. said he wasn't able to do my surgery at the location it was scheduled because they didn't allow people over 300# to have surgery there. So...after holding back my tears, I asked what I could do...I am on a strict medifast diet to lose 20 pounds in 16 days. I know that by sticking to it (the glass half full!) I can do it, but I am NOT looking forward to it. I guess it will just get me ready for the next phase in my life. You only have a 14 days to go. Are you getting nervous? I can't remember if you are on a liquid diet or not. Can't wait until the 21st!
-
Poohlvr-I am starting to get nervous for my pre op visit...mostly the fact that they might find some reason why they can't do my surgery. I called the only friend that knows to go with me, but she is the principal of a P, K, 1 school and they have many issues at the end of the day with bussing, so she can't get away. When I get nervous I clam up, so I need to make my list of questions before I go. Anyway, I will post Wednesday evening once I get home. My name is Shannon. Only 2 more days until I know for sure! Have a great Tuesday!

Personally rerouting my anatonomy scares me. Good luck with making your decision. I would get another opinion to see if they differ.

Poohlvr-The appointment on the 5th is a consult. I attended a seminar and the dr. let me schedule my appt that night for surgery. I am fairly young and don't currently have any comorbidities, so not a lot of pre op tests. I don't believe I will need to go on a pre op diet, but honestly, I will need to in order to not go on a "last binge!" and gain even more weight. I have also read that it reduces the fats surrounding (or in, I reallly don't know) the liver which helps with surgery. I am sooo excited because I just feel bogged down right now. We had our district inservice day today (I am in charge of it) and I am absolutely EXHAUSTED. I am not at all nervous, but that may come after the consult. With my schedule and theirs trying to find a date in September was difficult and I would have gone in that night had they wanted to take me. So, I am certain it will be the 21st at the earliest and if there are specific tests to be run, even longer. How about you? Nervous? Excited? Do you have to do a pre op diet? What will it consist of if you do? Have you had a consult with the dr? What happened at the visit? Anyone else out there being banded the week of the 17th?

I am very open with my weight, but I am choosing to keep this one to myself. My husband and best friend know and one of the teachers in my building guessed what I was doing one day when I had to leave at the end of the day. (we had a previous discussion before I had made my decision...she too is overweight) I NEVER take time off work, so it will be difficult to keep this a secret for too long. I am a school administrator and unfortunately everyone knows when I am not in the building because I have to "arrange" for coverage! Working on keeping my mouth shut! Have a good day!
-
Poohlvr-You are scheduled two days before me...we will have to share post op stories and positive attitudes!
-
LapBandit-You look fabulous! I can't wait to get started.
-
Julia- I would love to join your glass half full club! I am feeling very positive about going this direction for weight loss. I have tried it all and am actually looking forward to the liquid portion of the pre op and post op, as I have tried a medically supervised liquid diet and loved the fact that food wasn't "the" focus of my life. I am going back to work to sit through 2 days of training on the 25th, so healing "will" be fast for me! My only concern is I am an elementary pirncipal and those hugs might hurt for a while. 8-))

I have a tentative surgery date of 9/21. I will know more on 9/5. I can't wait to have an end in sight, but am nervous that I won't be successful! (I have a lot of work to do with positive thoughts regarding my weight!)

Thanks Wendell. That has been my impression so far. I appreciate your response. -

Wendell, I have an appointment on 9/5 for consult and a tentative surgery date for the 21st of September with Dr. Neal. Woudl you be willing to share your experiences with the office and surgeon? -
I am once again considering the Lap Band and would like to know if anyone is from WA that has been banded?

I live in Hoquiam, next to Aberdeen. Anyone go to or planning to go to Dr. Neal or Ogle?
