Anyone have to have a sleep study before surgery??
PCracker replied to kmg1997's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I am in Georgia and they made me do 2 sleep studies. If you are obese & snore you proably have apnea, where you stop breathing so many times a night, it is dangerous & you don't sleep very well. I was mild, I stopped about 10-15 times an hour, my mother stops breathing about 90 times per hour. So there are different levels. I had to go on a breather at night for 3 weeks prior to surgery. The 2nd study was to test the machine and to see just how much extra oxygen you needed to get a good sleep. It worked well getting me to sleep but during the night I was take it off. It seems to be a real pain, but jump through all the hoops they ask & get it done. I have lost 35 pounds, 1/2 before surgery the 1 week of getting ready for liquid diet & then the 2 weeks of liquid and then the rest after being banded on 9/4. I am not even 30 days into the band yet & I love it. It works, just do what they say. I started this process in Dec 06 been dieting for 8 years & maintaining at 290, I am now at 242, I will say just going through the process of being approved & getting there I have lost 50 pounds this year. Good Luck & follow thier instructions to the letter. P -
:hungry:Hi I am doing well, I am still doing liquid & moving to mushy foods this week. I made this great pot of vege stew with hamburger last night. It will be my first attempt at anything solid, but yet in a soup. When can we start that exercise routine? I am down 35 pounds since I started this process & need to start moving. I tried riding my exercise bike but sill hurt, I will try again today.

Things went great at the hospital, I was in surgery for about 45 minutes then in recover for about 1/2 or so and on to my room by 11:20 walking and going to the bathroom. I opted to stay the night since I lived a couple hours away & I paid for it, let them wait on me & I was hooked to pain med's if I started to have pain. Happly things went very well and I was home 24 hours after surgery. I have an uncomfortable feeling, the gas probably and my stomach looks very big & blotted. I am not hungry at all, but I have had Water, broth, Jello & a bit of decaf coffee. I am sleeping alot & going to the bathroom alot, but all & all I feel pretty good, not a lot of gas pain & my stomach is going down & I have a bit of gas. So all of you that are worried or nervous really not a lot pain, just discomfort, this is my first surgery ever too. Things could change I will keep you posted. :clap2: I did it.

So how are you feeling now, are you still really bloated, I am. It seems the gas just does not want to move out. Other than that I feel good, not real hungry, still on broth & liquid, having some creamy potatoe or tomatoe today. I hate to say it but let me know about you gas? HaHaHa.

Oh thank you guys for this information. I have 3 older sister, the oldest had gastric bypass and the 3rd sister told everyone that she looked like an old lady & shuffled her feed when she walked. Oh so not true, she went from 275 to 117 in 14 months & looks great & by the way she is an old lady of 60. haha. Well I am the baby at 53 and I had lapband on the 4th of this month I am like 3 days into it. I have not told anyone else in my family, cause sister 3 will start the I am dying or went to Mexico or whatever to sabotage our family reunion in Oct. I have lost 35lbs since the first of the year 18 of it post op & I am sure I will drop another 10 to 12 before I go. So they will notice a different, but I have planned to tell everyone at the same time to stop any rumors. I am not sure if I will even to that depends on when we all get there & the mood of the day, my mom is turning 80 so we are all pretty much forced to be together for her sake. I get alone well with sister 1 and sister 2 and I email but are not the closest, sister 3 and I have fought our entire lives, she also fights with sister 1, so who knows how this will turn out. It will be like a daytime soap I am sure. The idea of sending sister 3 my fat clothes is great. I just might do it, send them to her & her daughter and when I tell sister 1 she will want to be in on it too. Oh sister 3 was always the skinny one, she just recently plumped up there with us. Again thank you very much for letting me know I am not the only one out there with this problem & yes don't tell anyone.

Hey girl how are you doing, we got our bands the same day, I was hoping to compare some symptons. I am feeling pretty good most of the day but I have this bloated feeling that does not go away. My incision itch & I am just not hungry. Mentally I want to eat but I am not hungry I do my broth & sip my water & waiting for the bloating to go away. Let me know how you are doing? P

I was banded on the 4th to How are you feeling. Mine went very well. I am feeling pretty good, my belly is tight & swollen still but all in all I am thrilled at how well things are going. I am not a bit hungry yet. My husband keeps making me drink broth, I am good at sipping, so I still do kow how the banding itself is working, to soon to tell. Let me know how you are doing?

Calling all cheaters!!
PCracker replied to guinessgirl77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 11 days into the liquid diet & 4 days out from surgery at 9:30 on the 4th. I am very excited and pretty hungry, I feel weak & lighted headed too. Stickly clear liguids and Protein drinks with skim milk. I did read that for the liver has to shrink it has to be deprieved of carbs & fats. So protein should not hurt, but I have stucked to the rules except for about an 1 oz of chicken breast the last night. Just to get a little protein. I found consume' are much better than broth, french onion and beef mushroom Soup are very good, just don't eat the onions or mushrooms. Also we go to the Mexican Restaurant & order chicken soup with nothing in it, put the pico(tomatoes, onions, jalanpenos & cilintra chopped in it for a 1/2 hour, drain it all off & the broth is very good. So everyone be thinking & praying for me on the 4th. I will come & let you know how I feel. Stick to the liquid diet you don't want your liver to mess with, shrink it. Oh and I have lost 14 pounds on the diet too.:ranger: -
Calling all cheaters!!
PCracker replied to guinessgirl77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been on clear liguids, which is water & broth. 2 Protein shakes and a very small amount of cottage cheese. It has been hard, but a lot of is mental. I would do almost anything for a Lean Cusine dinner or a salad. And I have to do it for a week or two after being banded. But it is all worth it in the long run. -
me too, how are you doing on the liquid diet, or did you have to do that? P
-
I am 9 days into the liquid diet and my surgery is Tuesday the 4th. I am doing welll, after the first 3 days it gets easier. You can only eat so many no sugar added popsicles. I had my post op today with the doctor, fast no problems. Then went to register at the hospital & that tooks a couple hours, drawing blood, had an EKG & a chest x-ray. I have to be there 7:30 tuesday morning & will be banded at 9:30 AM. I will let you know how things went on wednesday. Anyone out there 3 or 4 days out of being banded, let me know what to expect. Thanks P:clap2:

This is the 5th day of the liguid diet and it is not easy. I am not starving or having hunger pains, but I feel very empty. The protein shakes are keeping me full and I have lots of flavored water & popsicles. My husband is doing it with me just to be supportive and all we do is talk about food. HaHaHa. We had to quit watching the cooking shows, just to much. Try consume instead of broth it is much better, french onion consume and strain it, add a little pepper, pretty good. The purpose of the liquid diet is to have your body used up all the nutrients in your liver to shrink it out of the way. The added plus is losing weight. I was just doing liquid once or twice a week for a month and lost 8 pounds. I get banded on the 4th and I am nervous, excited and very happy with my decision to do this.

Oh yea I wish, I should have made that clear I have lost 20 lbs since Februrary. I did lose 8 pounds in the 2 weeks I was practicing the liquid diet. I started one day a week liquid then 2 days then 3 day so by the time the Sept 21st gets here I will be ready for 3 weeks of liquid dieting. I hope to lose even more when I do start my liquid diet. I will keep you posted.

I have a date for my Lapband on Sept 4th. I am so excited. I have pre-op on Aug29th. This is about the most exciting thing I have done. Yes my life has been pretty boring. I did sell everything I own & buy a business in a small town, it has been doing well for the past 3 years, that was exciting and a lot of hard work. I expect this will be too. Yea..... P:whoo:

Just got approved, Now how to tell people?
PCracker replied to 300IOWA's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 53 and have not told my family yet either. My parents and my sisters, they are all overweight and they have not been very helpful in getting it off themselves either. My oldest sister had gastric bypass and lost all the weight and everyone is jealous of her. I am the youngest and I am worried. Funny you said that, it has been bothering me too. -
IM SO EXCITED...and i just cant hide it!!!!
PCracker replied to tlambright1986's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was so glad to hear you say that, I am almost obsessed with thinking about this all the time. It is great and I am so excited. If you are giving up sodas, coffee & tea, the lack of caffine will give you a headache. I lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks, just doing the liguid diet twice a week. I am so excited, I do not have a date yet, but will have tomorrow for the end of the this month. Keep us posted -
Newbie here, Hello all ! Could use any support please =)
PCracker replied to RoseNewLife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Rose, you sound like me. My husband is great and helpful but not a listener or talker. I am 5'2" and weight 290 when I started this, I am at 272 and I have not been banded yet. I too had to have all the test & am waiting for just a few results. I should have a date tomorrow. I have no children and live in a very small town in Georgia. I have only been here 3 years and have few friends. Lots of business friends since we have a computer retail & repair store here. We have apartments in the same building & we live there. It has been fun. I want to lose this weight for the same reason as you, family history, bad joints, high blood pressure. I can barely walk these days my legs & feet are so bad. Please feel free to email me anytime. P -
Good Luck, I am still waiting for a date, hopefully I will know tomorrow. Keep us posted and read through all these, they answer more questions than any of the doctors & help staff can.

Banding.....August 2007! Who else?
PCracker replied to JudiM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am waiting for my date & I have been trying to liguid atleast 3 days a week, just so I know how it is going to be. I am cranky. I am worried about the gas pain after, but if that is all the pain we have, we are lucky. I lost 8 more pounds too. Good Luck, -
Hello, I am waiting for a date for my lapband. I am very nervous. I have read alot of your comments and I am feeling better about a few things. I have been doing a lot of research and reading blogs & forums has been a positive thing. I am getting excited and looking forward to getting my lapband in the next few weeks. How hard is the 2 week liguid diet, I am trying to do 1 or 2 days a week of just liguid & it is very hard. I am so cranky & hungry. Any tips? P:confused:

These recipes are great, I like the sound of all them. I found a good protein drink for breakfast, I just not sure how to make mushy food. Thanks

Regarding pre-banding psych eval--what did you say?
PCracker replied to Qvrfullmidwife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am self pay and had a not so good, but enlightening pysch examine and was still approved. The Doctor already told me not to worry about it. I do have to everything the guy recommended & prove it before surgery. But my insurance will pay for all that. I worry about that to but am waiting to get a date next week.
