Thyroid (hypo) condition and gastric bypass anyone?
bellalulu replied to bellalulu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you very much for your reassurance. I just started on levothyroxine, generic of synthroid and hoping my symptoms subside. How long did it take for you to get stable after starting the synthroid? I have shortness of breath...did you have that too? I see a cardiologist May 1st and it can't wait. Oddly enough i got worse right after I made the brave decision to say yes to my surgery. My only regret is that I should have done this years ago when I wanted it and was way healthier. Who knew? -

2 Months- 50lbs with pictures!
bellalulu replied to hb5484's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations, you look wonderful, thank you for your picture and motivation. Can you imagine how great it will be on the next months for you... How are you feeling? Everything going down okay? How was.the pain? I'm soon to get my surgery and truth be told, feel like hell with a thyroid condition that caused more weight gain, now insulin which made it worse and can't breath too well. Going to my cardiologist appointment soon. Hoping this surgery can make it all better. Good luck and keep us updated. -
Carry a handkerchief and dab rubbing alcohol or a neutral smell of your choice and it helps with the nausea.

Pre-op nurse called me to old for surgery and made me nervous!
bellalulu replied to Bigmommatojacob's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, you should report that nurse! It's none of her concern or business. Your doctor very well knows your age. If he or she did not mention it to you than I am sure that meant that everything is ok for surgery. How dare that nurse comment and scare you. Please don't worry and ask your doc what he thinks. -
Eschy I heard the first week is the worst but if you hang in there everything else will get better and you will start feeling much better. Keep up the good work, I heard that walking makes it better fast and gets rid of all the bloat and gas which can cause pain. Feel better because you are on your way to a new wonderful life.

I am a diabetic, so I know well about the highs and the lows... Please be sure to carry with you a juice box, small orange juice or five pieces of hard candy. Ex: skittles and the like. Low sugar and specifically in the 30s can put you in a coma and you can lose your life. Not trying to scare anyone but just providing info so you will be ready to treat the low and be sure to check sugar again in fifteen minutes. If still low, continue to drink juice as that is.the fastest way to get the sugar you need. Good luck.

Gastric Bypass 9 years on.
bellalulu replied to mytime1234's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you everyone for clearing up the story and avoiding some people who need this life saving surgery from being scared or turned away because of the bad stories. While I am sorry for the people who have had terrible side affects, it does not mean everyone will have a bad experience. It is the horror stories of surgery gone bad that deter people from moving forward with possibly saving their own lives. If it were not for those horror stores I read on this site, I would have done this years ago when I wanted and was in a much healthier place in my.life. It only got worse for me. So I say, do your research, listen to your heart and your doctors recommendations and no one else, not even family. Good luck.to all. -
Wow,.that sounds crazy. I think that someone is.supposed to go.over.all the costs with you. The hospital has to tell you upfront what they will cover and what you are responsible for... I'm sorry Cookie that you have to deal with this, maybe you should speak to the financial.dept.and maybe that can help you... Or get a lawyer. You have patient rights. Who does that? Bait and switch on major surgery such as yours... Good luck.
