    Post surgery and depression

To all of you who are depressed, please go get help. See a therapist that can guide you through these feelings. Perhaps help you figure things out. So many of our thoughts can haunt us and fester over and over. Do not go it alone. Talk to friends, family, people. Some times just hearing yourself talk about what is ailing you will help. Depression just gets worse over time. Go back to support groups or start your own support group but I mean, face to face. You must socialize and get out in nature, it helps. Also know that my guess is that anaesthesia plays a funky role on the brain. After one of my major surgeries, I cried for weeks.... it's also hormonal and your body being through this complete overhaul. I'm sorry you are hurting, I am here to help. Im also a Therapist. Chin up....
  2. Super! Are you excited? Nervous? I would be but pretty soon you will be posting all your success. It's a life saving decision one with many benefits. I will follow your journey and cheer you on! Hope you enjoy your Memorial holiday weekend and I'm pretty sure there may be a bbq involved....lol (stick to the protein)
  3. Welcome Tony and join the club. I am pre op too for the bypass and have a tentative July surgery. Thank you for sharing your story. We are here for each other. These boards are great.to be on....good luck.

    Newbie

Good luck to you both, as a newbie too and looking at a July date for me, I know exactly how you feel. I was going back and forth for too long until I realized nothing can be worse than a declining life. So stay strong and good vibes to you both.

    Stall and side pain

Oh good to hear. Thank God you are out of pain. I was reading all of your posts and am happy that you are relieved. Nothing is worse than a constant pain. Good luck.

Awesome start! Better things to come you way. How was your recovery after surgery? I'm scheduled for July and just wondering what to expect.

    December Surgeries

Tip3rd, hot damn! Wow and wow again. You look amazing. Congratulations on your wonderful success and great job you did with it all. I am pre op and you give me hope.
  8. Cool, right on target and right around the corner. You must be excited. I need psych, nutri, pulmonary and just get my xrays and reults to my surgery center bec I used outside prividers. I have a pending surgery date for July but waiting on fixing my thyroid levels first. Have a fun Memorial day weekend.
  9. Yes, that's correct. Same as what I read and Doc told me. It's another young lady last night that didn't know what exactly she was when she wrote I think (I think I'm hyper something) as a patient you must know and be specific with what you have or what you were told. So we all jumped and gave her advice from what we know. I for sure am hypo and my hubby is hyper, trust that I know how it feels but 25 wow, that's super high. Some people can't function not even past a 5... also, I was told different labs have different thresholds for what they think is high. What I love about my new doctor is that he also asked me about all my symptoms. Some doctors don't really sit and listen. That's why I hate doctors at the VA, it's like pulling teeth with them. Glad to know you are doing great!
  10. Tammie, as long as you meet what ever criteria your insurance sets for you, you should and will be approved. They want to approve you bec in the long run you will need less medical care.
  11. No, most all of us have elevated triglycerides and the surgery will resolve that. Some insurance companies want that as one of their risk factors and help us qualify for the surgery. You will be sent for testing prior to approval or during... They will check your heart, lungs, your stomach for h pylori, psych eval and nutritionist. If you have any risk factors for surgery like a heart issue, you will be sent for a stress test. At least that's what they did with me. Don't worry just move forward and go to your surgery center and ask for help, your coordinator is usually the one who eases all your worries and us here too. Good luck. I've done all .. I did EKG my heart is good, I did the ultrasound Monday May12. I did the upper GI, I did the pulmonary as well I aced them all.. I just have a little reflux. My issue is my triglycerides, and my hyperthyroid.. Also I have high cholesterol yikes and my sugar levels just go up and down.. Which makes me pre diabetic you are a champ! Breezing through it all. So don't worry that you won't be approved or that your thyroid will stop your surgery. It's just a by product of our messy metabolism and endocrine system. You will be a ok. It's still the psych Eval that has me worried.. My husband just called me by momma . like hello I already have self esteem issues thanks to all this weight I've put on. Thing is he was just playing around .. But I still took it offensive. I don't even like going outside because of my weight OMG, you sound like me... I became a recluse. I had never ever ever been this big and I gained it all weird like just belly, arms and face. I swear my face looked deformed and it's only bec I was all bloated from my undiagnosed thyroid. Oh and selfies, ugh forget that. I was like who is that? But you know what helped me... I started looking at you tube videos for how to on make up, as I am no expert and then I went to buy make up and try all the crazy stuff those beauty girls do, lol It was fun and it does pick up your spirits. I wasn't big on make up prior. Just basic stuff. Then I went to the salon and got a hair cut. So go and do stuff like that and do not stay home. THat is the vicious cycle we get into. We need to be out and about walking, swimming or hiking. Trust me, I was like wth have I become? I am not disabled and was never getting out of bed or my house! Forget that. YOu are beautiful in any size. You are very pretty! I bought a big plus size bathing suit and take my fat @ss to the community pool, suck it up and say hi to all the size zeros, shake it up and swim because other than that I feel like I will die. So go get em and I am sure your husband was messing with you! If he ain't got a six pack, tell him to talk to you when he does. LOL hugs to you...
  12. Oh good for you! I know you will be approved. I am sure waiting is the worst part but you will get there... Keep us posted.
  13. Thank you very much for your reassurance. I just started on levothyroxine, generic of synthroid and hoping my symptoms subside. How long did it take for you to get stable after starting the synthroid? I have shortness of breath...did you have that too? I see a cardiologist May 1st and it can't wait. Oddly enough i got worse right after I made the brave decision to say yes to my surgery. My only regret is that I should have done this years ago when I wanted it and was way healthier. Who knew? Be very careful with the generic...my doctor says she will not sign off on that. I get mine through Express Scripts and once they sent me that anyway. My TSH went way up......as soon as I got back on the Synthroid for a few weeks it went back down. Also do not take Vitamins etc with you thyroid medicine. Wait about two hours. It took me a long time to get the right dosage. I got too much the first time and felt a pounding in my throat like someone was choking me. Once I got the right dosage, I had no more problems. SOunds so good to hear that you recovered with the synthroid. I will definitely tell my doctor to change me from the levothryoxine. Thank you for that very important fact. No wonder I still feel like a snail. No drive what so ever. Yikes.
  14. Hallelujah! and thank God for your new found energy, life and weight loss!!! Oh I dream of that to be me one day. Sometimes when I am wiped out and drained, I reminisce of a time when I used to be able to work ten hour days and be out all weekend. I felt like my life was being sucked out of me but all of your posts and help show me the light at the end of the tunnel. God bless all you ladies that came on here and helped me. Grateful I found you guys, you have no idea. <3
  15. Oh GingerSnaps, you are getting real close to your date! I cheer you on and cannot imagine your nerves right now. Thanks for the reply and my apologies for not logging on sooner. You are so right about the obscure symptoms... My biggest battle with the hypo is brain fog and complete exhaustion even after waking from 8 or 9 hour sleep. I feel like I have the worst hang over. Sometimes I get bursts of energy and I will literally dance around with joy. Then I get zapped. So I see my doc next week and def changing my dose. Good luck and I will follow your success!! )
  16. Oh thank God, sounds great and congrats and that weight loss!! It sounds really reassuring and I am so happy to see you doing so well. Keep up the great work.

  18. Yes mere. I have high thyroid .. Whatever that is. I just haven't been scheduled for surgery yet. This is my last month for the journey and I meet w the surgeon June 4.. Super excited If you have high thyroid then you have HYPERthyroid. Do you think I'll be approved ? Yes, I don't see why not... SOme docs say that after your surgery maybe your thyroid can resolve itself. It's not a guarantee and I am no doctor but I do read like a mad woman and research everything. If you have hyperthyroid that means you have a super fast metabolism and maybe you will lose weight. Do research it, it's called graves disease, my husband was diagnosed with it (hyperthyroid) and I have the hypothyroid (slow thyroid) maybe opposites do attract. Ask your doc all the questions and then go home and look it up. Take good care of yourself as hyper or hypo affects all of your cells, your entire body and brain. Good luck. I am here for you if you need. Thank you so much. I've done all the appointments I just have the psych Eval, and the pcp follow up all this week coming. Then my second visit with my surgeon June4th. I have a bmi of 47. Weigh 253lbs ... Awesome! you are on the right track. I need a few appts too. I did my heart echo and stress test, thank God it all came back good. I need pulmonary, psyche, NUT and H pylori test. I already met with the surgery center coordinator and a Nurse for a check up. I was 248.7 and am 243.0. I was 240 but three pounds chased me down and got me! I am very short, only 5ft so this is a lot of weight for my small frame. :/

  20. Yes mere. I have high thyroid .. Whatever that is. I just haven't been scheduled for surgery yet. This is my last month for the journey and I meet w the surgeon June 4.. 21. I thank you and take my hat off to you. You are by far a very courageous woman. The things we women must face and walk the earth to try and figure out.. I know I am dramatic but that is how I feel, lol. It is like you are in a maze and on this blinded journey to figure it all out. So, as far as what you tell me, I am with you every step of the way. Now I look back and put peices together. Many moons ago I too had all those symptoms you tell me about and remember getting the progesterone shots, had gyn say something about a small cyst and nothing to worry about. Fast forward to past recent years (if that makes sense) and I developed insulin resistance and hello mid section belly that grew like I was growing an alien. LOL Last year I also got a partial hysto and bazinga, my sugar went through the roof, lost all my energy and have not gone back to work since- (could barely get out of bed.) So my hyster sister we could be twins and I am grateful for your time and your story. I send you hugs and a big smiley face. xoxo
  22. Oh happy happy for you! And thank you for that report and motivation. .. as a newbie, i fight with the back and forth of going through. .. afraid as heck with any possible side affects but you sound great. Any pain or side affects, if you don't mind sharing....
  23. Hi Karenlee, omg so sorry for the late late reply. .. i had been scared off of this site and out of my wits by the same person who scared me off two years ago w her horror stories... sheesh. Lol but I'm back on and still working on my requirements for surgery.. i haven't been tested for pcos. I will surely ask. My tsh was high, around 5.6 or so and I'm now on levothyroxine, a low dose to start so I still feel listless. My plan is to get this thyroid or pcos medicated and under control before the bypass as I don't want to feel super messed up after the fact and then go crazy blaming my bypass for how I feel. It really really sucks if you ask me because when I finally decided to go through with the bypass and mustered up my courage, i got hit with low thyroid functions which i read can be caused by the highs and lows of my blood sugar swings. Makes sense to me. I thank you dearly for your response and i am sorry I had not seen it or logged in here in quite some time. Thanks again though.
  24. Oh that is great! You started off excellent. That is my worry... Will the thyroid stop me from losing... Thank you for helping me. I assume that this surgery will help as our weight does cause these hormonal imbalances. Diabetes makes everything crazy too. You are brave and smart. I shall be like you and move forward with my clearances. I almost canceled my appt. why prolong what will make me better... Thank you.
  25. Absolutely wonderful and congratulations on your new life. I love to hear these success stories, it keeps me going. I am now where you used to be. I have all those diagnosis including my cane. Two years ago when i got married, i felt wonderful. Feel sorry for my husband, he got the short end of the stick. I am a great wife but lately, im slacking... Lol
