Managing Expectations: Weight and Hunger
Dxbdude posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my gastric sleeve op on the 27th of Nov 2013. I'm just about 3 weeks out and I've already reached a bit of a plateau. I was wondering if this could be expected so early after the opp, I've lost 6 KG (13 pounds) in the first week and a half and then just kind of chilled at that weight now for the following week and a bit. Also, I have been feeling really hungry, something everyone says they don't feel after a sleeve. Maybe it's head hunger, but my stomach growls and I get weak and want food....so that pretty much seems like hunger to me. I have been very active walking 4-5 km several days a week. I'm on soft food, so been eating like scrambled eggs and soft fish. Doesn't seem like I should be stagnating with my portion size intake and activity level, and I doubt I'm piling on muscle which is causing my weight to stay up. I have been a bit bad with my Water...only drinking about one litre a day. Anyway, just looking for support and feedback, I haven't reached freak out point although I'll be pretty angry if I reach one month and still stuck at 6kg. Take care peoples,- 12 replies

well, you gotta ask yourself, could you have lost those 58 pounds by now without the operation? Not only that but you will continue to lose more weight with the sleeve op, while had you had reached this far without the operation you would have had the risk of falling off the wagon and gaining it all back in no time. If the answer to the question is no, then I would be really happy with yourself. You already made a change in your life, and it looks like it will only get better. I can't wait until I hit 58 pounds (hope it happens haha).

Ok some great feedback from all of you. I'm going to up my Water big time, look into my stomach acid level, and do a shocker day if I don't see any results in a couple weeks. Final question, has anyone ever gone from gastric sleeve to 6 pack without any kind of plastic surgery? Like if I get my body fat down low enough and skin isn't too bad, can it ever get to that level of leanness? -

Thanks for all of the encouraging comments guys. At what point does the surgery break even with all the money and efforts? For example, I weighed 325 pounds when I started. For me to really say, ok it was worth cutting my stomach out I'd need to get to about 250 pounds, although my real goal is to try and break under 200 a bit. (I'm 6 ft and pretty built so I could carry that weight ok)... What is the magic number. -

That's a good idea. How do you do a shocker day with a stomach capacity of 2-3 tablespoons haha? Do you know any good foods that go down easy without coming right up again. -

Hi Stefanie, thanks for quick response. I think my diet is alright as I'm really concentering on the Protein, so I guess I'll just try and up the Water. That seems to be the only missing link for now. Like I said I won't start throwing a fit until I hit one month post op. I can't wait until I can get back in the gym again, I guess need another 3 weeks for that. Anyway, good luck to you too and thanks for the article. -
So has anyone ever gotten a 6 pack after having bariatric surgery? Losing weight and retaining muscle is one thing, but are you able to get definition and put on more muscle after this procedure? Just wondering what the likelihood is considering the dramatic decrease in food intake and the whole sagging skin syndrome. Thanks guys.

Hi peoples, it's my first post. I'm getting my operation done on the 27th of Nov. I'm not really that worried about it, and the preop hasn't been that bad for me so far (I am just doing an extreme low fat diet, so it's kind of like chicken fish and vegetables with no oil). I'm wondering if there are any guys out there who have been able to retain and build muscle after a gastric sleeve op? I have a pretty good amount of muscle built under all this fat, and I'm worried about losing this, especially considering I'm expecting skin issues (I have like 120 pounds to lose). It will be nice to be lighter, but I'm not interested in looking all sickly and saggy if I can avoid that. Does anyone have any advice or feedback?

Why Is Their A Liquid Pre Op Diet? My Doc Has Not Talked About It Yet?
Dxbdude replied to JewelJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well the pre-op diet is pretty much done to shrink the size of your liver so that they have more room to work the stomach. I have read a lot about liquid diets, but my doctor only asked for a low/no fat lower calorie diet for me. They did an ultrasound to check out my liver size and did find it's oversized, I think most people needing weightloss surgery probably have Fatty Liver Disease (FLD). You should definitely check with your doctor again. Take care, -
