  1. Lololol.....what a crappy, outdated and biased article. Seriously that is a sales pitch written by a doctor who does not do the sleeve. Completely prejudicial and faulty information. Please do not post such misleading information. You always reply so nasty! Take it easy man its just information. Weather it's from a lap and website or not all those facts are true.. Please no more insults and anger. Were all walking the same path.
  2. I agree with that. Yes the band is more maintenance but if complications occur like in any WLS (heaven forbid) ITs reversible and taken out and your back to normal. Plus it's now an outpatient procedure which appeals to me because I have a high demand job and have 2 kids and a husband and I need to get in and get in with my life!! My sister in law had bypass last year and has lost 118 lbs and looks amazing! However she lost hair, became nutrient deficient, got a hernia and had to go back in for hernia surgery.
  3. Can you explain the no restrictions on food an the "less invasive" part?
  4. I agree, this whole thing I scary. It's terrifying actually. The weird thing is, I'm not scared of surgery, I'm scared of life after surgery!!! I agree that all surgery is risky but for me, personally I would not like half my stomach to be lined with staples..freaks me out! At least with Gastric you don't have as many staples and area for seepage. I also see lots of band bashing on here too so to each their own I have seen lots of people on here who have been sleeved and lost a ton of weight and that's awesome and must be a great feeling to finally shed that skin. Best of luck to everyone!
  5. I'm not saying she is 100%correct I'm just telling you what she said since the topic is a VS topic.
  6. My surgeon told me that the sleeve is the worst way to go. She is Sacramento's Too Bariatric Surgeon and has been featured in Sacramento Magazine many times. Dr. Machado. She says that she does not even like or suggest doing the sleeve. She says, "why would I want half of my stomach cut out and then have a hundred staples going down the side of it!?" She says that it's the riskiest of all wight loss surgeries because of the amount of tissue you are compromising . The risk of infection and spillage goes up dramatically because again, there is more manipulated tissue involved.. I personally would do the band over the sleeve any day.

I'm getting the lap band. She is Sacramento's top bariatric surgeon; Dr. Laura Machado. She just thinks it's not the wise choice. I dunno.

    Lap Band

What made you choose the sleeve? My surgeon said that she never even recommends it cause it's far too risky..

Sorry I am new and posted in the sleeve forum... Sorry.. The surgeon I was going to first said she would never suggest the sleeve and did not like even doing it.

I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you! I hope I get approved.. I was reading an arrival that they are/had lowered the BMI requirements for lap band. I don't know why they have to decide what I can and can't do with my body though...

Do you have to quit when you do surgery? I smoke... Will they make me quit? I know I need to but if they are going to insist, I need to know ahead of time so I can prepare.....

I actually don't have Hills Physicians I am under Sierra Nevada but Eslami is under Sierra Nevada as well so he I who I have to go through. I work for the State so I have Blue Shield Net Value (pers) HMO. I'm still a little confused as to what I have to do because I have not actually met with Eslami yet. But according to my primary physician I just need to have a BMI of 35 or higher, comorbities are not necessary and he just has to show proof that he has been working with and talking to me about my weight for at least 6 months. Now as far as what Eslami will want me to do..... I have no clue... I'm 35 years old, 5'4 240 lbs with a BMI of 40. I have high BP but am on BP meds and my blood pressure has been running, 135/82 about..

Omgosh! I'm going to Dr. Eslami too!! I have not met him yet. Have you? How is he? Doesn't he also have an office in Folsom? I kinds wanna go to Folsom cause it's like 45 min closer..

    Approval Process?

Interesting! We will see what happens
  24. Ok so I am obviously new to all of this but I'm confused. My doctor is preparing to send my paperwork over to get my insurance to approve the surgery, (which he says should not be a problem at all) once that's approved I will meet with my surgeon. What happens next? Will he just schedule me a surgery date or will I need psych evaluations and classes? I know each doctor and insurance is different but what should I expect?
