Did anyone try Phentramine before deciding on WLS? What were your results? How long did you keep the wight off? What were the side effects? Just Curious.

We work for the State and she has a boss. It's next to impossible to get fired from the state. I have been looking for another job for months now. The whole thing is crazy and she is in denial about it. Now I have quit smoking for my surgery (which she thinks is stupid) And she rolled her eyes and told me "yeah ok, good luck with that!" When I told her I quit smoking. (Have to for surgery)

Here's the twist, I work with her, she's not only my close friend but she is my boss! Everyone thinks she is a bitch. Some people are even scared to call her!! She throws fits at work too. She kind of acts like a kid throwing a temper tantrum.. We used to hang out a lot but I have pulled back a lot because she's so damn bitchy! Thanks for your advice! It really helps me make sense of it all!

I have tried texting her articles or showing her articles on how damaging it can be to her heart and she flips in me.. I'm at the point where I now have to just stand back an let her do her thing. Because everytime I try she comes uncorked and starts getting defensive. She also has cysts on her ovaries and has been taking meds to dissolve them and antibiotics. So let's recap; daily decongestant, mucinex, Flonase, Phentramine, 800 mg Ibuphrophin 3x a day, meds for cysts, antibiotics, 2 types of blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, multiple tall energy drinks a day and smokes a ton! I also believe she is getting norco from a mutual friend....... And she has a HOT temper and I don't like pissing her off. She tends to over react about a lot, she's been breathing really heavy, she's about 5'7 and 230 lbs..

@1day I work for the Department Of Transportation and we maintain Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and every winter I hire and reinstate and manage over 400 winter Employees who man 80 during storm season. I do all the hiring and record keeping, all the upgrades and retirements and comings and goings of the entire region which includes 11 counties... Winter is out busiest season and my position plays a huge roll in the operations. Winter usually consists of November through March but it's really all depending on the snow. Right now I'm in the middle of hiring, drug testing, doing physicals an new hire orientation for 60 new hires. Tuesday I'm doing an orientation for all 60... It's a lot.. However, she knows how to do all of this and I have don't most of everything already so in hoping that by the time my last new employee package is filled out there will be an eye to the storm.. See with the band I would only be out for a week.. But with gastric or the sleeve I'm really unsure....I may just lie and say in going through my pre surgery testing they have discovered that I have a hernia and they need to expedite my surgery!

Well..... I was kinda set on the band but after hearing all the bad talk I'm rethinking this.. I like the band cause it's adjustable, removable, manageable and it's an outpatient procedure. But now after hearing all sides of the spectrum I keep thinking. Am I effin crazy for wanting to do this at all?!?!

Your absolutely correct. We go to the same doc and he did NOT prescribe her the Phentramine, she went elsewhere for that...

God I'm so worried. I'm actually hoping that my approval comes later rather than sooner just because my boss (who I have told) was like, "you do realize it's winter and you can't take time off during the winter right?".

My friend is taking it and I'm so worried about it.. She has High BP, Cholesterol, (on meds for both) she drinks like 3 Monsters a day, she takes Sudafed constantly, and smokes like a chimney.... Is is just me or doesn't that just sound bad? I have talked to her but she gets all pissy and defensive.... Just curious..

How long did it take you all from the time your paperwork was sent in until the time it was approved?

I have been going through the approval process for about 2 months now so instill in the wading pool I suppose. I'm just waiting for insurance approval and then I don't know what happens? Yes I would search far and wide with your research... As prestigious as Sacramento magazine may be.. I would question your surgeons motivation behind her comments.. Perhaps she enjoys the repeat medical appointments that she will share with her banded clients? Or perhaps it's a competency issue with performing the sleeve surgery? I notice she does revision surgery.. One of the surgery she offers is the bypass which is a great surgery but involves cutting and staples also. ********************Thanks I have searched far and wide I am not "special" lol!!! The reason she prefers the bypass over the sleeve is LESS staples. LESS tissue manipulation. LESS amount of tissue to heal properly. MORE area of possible leaks. That is just HER Medical Opinion. And just because her opinion does not coincide with others opinions does not mean that she is not competent or enjoys repeat medical appointments. Why are you guys so defensive? It's not like I'm saying the sleeve is a POS and warning people not to get it like you seem to be doing about the band!! I'm simply sharing information. I really don't care what everyone else chooses for their WLS.. I just know about ME.

But most of those facts are either outdated, false or clearly slanted to sell lapband which is the surgery performed by that doctor. It's not an objective comparison and there are some very misleading "facts" in there. If that is your sole source of research about the sleeve then you have been mislead. Again, sorry if I was nasty. My apologies. Pfft that is not my sole source of research..... *shakes head*

Why need you miss it? It's not great for weight loss, but I certainly enjoy a glass or 2 now and then. Oh thank god! I was thinking I was going to live a life of celibacy!! Hahaha! No smoking, drinking, cheeseburgers! Hahaha!

I just got home from yet another seminar and it was so fun hearing everyone's stories, it never gets old. I'm kinda in the same boat. Lol! I came into this not knowing what I wanted. Then I have been flopping back and forth between the band and RNY. I stopped at my sister in laws house who is an RN at Kaiser who works in bariatrics. We had a glass of wine and shot the breeze. Oh how I will miss wine....
