Do not keep eating until you are full. Weigh out your portions for every meal. 4 ozs should be plenty. I invested in a nice digital kitchen scale. If you eye everything out you will most definitely be over eating. Remember our eyes being bigger than our stomach is what got most of us to where we were. That is something that has not changed for me. When ever I eye something out its always too much.

Calcium Supplement Help!
Bob2013 replied to kpay10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Wellesse Calcium & Vitamin D3 from Walmart. Its a liquid. Sort of has a orange creamsicle flavor. Its not bad. It says you can add it to a Water or fruit juice, but I just take it straight. I originally was taking a gummy calcium supplement which were great, but then I noticed they were like 30 calories each. I would rather spend my calories on Protein. -
Im about 5 months out and 4 ozs still fills me. You really shouldnt be eating without measuring your portions. I know when I try to eye something out it is always more than enough to fill me.

I dont hide it from anyone. If the subject of my dramatic weight loss comes up I spill the Beans and educate anyone that will listen. So many people come to the conclusion that it cannot be safe, healthy, good for you to have this kind of surgery and I fill them in on the pros and cons. Luckily with me its all pros as I have not had any negative experiences. Its really hard to talk smack about it when you have the facts.

Its a great app. Been using it from the beginning.

My surgeon's plan doesnt do puree until 3 weeks and IMO that was a good pace. As far as foods Canned chicken or tuna or hard boiled eggs with kraft fat free mayo ran through a food processor until there were no chunks left and a smooth consistency, Add some mustard if you like it as well as some seasoning to flavor it up. Its actually pretty good. I was surprised One of my other favorites was Fat Free Refried Beans with a little plain salsa mixed in. Some people say you can add some plain greek yogurt too but I never tried it. Some people mentioned being constantly hungry. I personally did not have any hunger the first 2 months, you may want to look at what you are eating. If it is high in carbs, that may be what is causing you to be hungry all the time.

With any abdominal surgery (laparoscopic) , a minimum of 4 weeks with no lifting over 20 lbs. I would just focus on walking until then.

Post-op 1 week today! Questions....
Bob2013 replied to brookiebaby81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Brooke, I am 9 days out from surgery, and I too have questions. I haven't lost but 2 lbs since my surgery. Total weight loss of 17.5 lbs. total in 3 weeks (2 weeks pre-op). Kinda concerned that the weight doesn't seem to be coming off as fast as I thought it would. My BMI was at 30 when I had the surgery and my weight was 177. I am walking everyday. I am hoping when I get back to work next week that the weight will begin to fall off. I am only having very liquid foods and protein drinks until next week. Then on to soft puréed foods. No complications as far as drinking anything either. But I am careful about how much over what time period. I too am afraid to not follow the drs. orders. I guess I am just looking for support and would appreciate all offered. Christina With a BMI of 30 your loss is going to be slow. Generally the bigger you are the faster the initial weight loss. -
SEX 3 WEEKS POST.OP.....ANY RESTRICTIONS
Bob2013 replied to melindawantstolive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing you need to worry about is the incisions in your abdomen. -
Anything with high calories and carbs that doesnt take time to digest, Crackers, chips, icecream. You really dont need a list to know what a slider food is.

Guy's how much weight did you lose the first 2 months?
Bob2013 replied to liguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 months out and down 57lbs from surgery date, and 68lbs since pre op diet. At 2 months I was probably in the 30ish lbs lost. -
Back to work-Nosey co-workers
Bob2013 replied to menjaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont keep it a secret. If the topic of my weight loss comes up I proudly tell them what I did and how great it is working. If they want to talk behind my back, so be it. I am the one who is getting healthy while most of them are still over weight. -
5 days Post Op and having pain with deep breathing
Bob2013 replied to bellatiff013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely consult your surgeon first for any issues. The breathing pain normally only lasts a couple days after surgery. I personally was very attentive to my post surgery recovery, using the spirometer within 15 minutes of waking up after surgery and then hourly after that. And regularly for the couple days afterwards. Breathing pain is a side effect of the anesthesia. If you dont fully expand your lungs regularly after surgery, Fluid collects in the lower part and can cause pneumonia. -
Call your doctor immediately!!!!!! Vomiting at this early stage can cause complications. Sorry to be dramatic but the doctor is the first one that should be hearing about this.

December 2013 sleevers progress
Bob2013 replied to BiddyBody's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery date 12-23-13 and down 60lbs from the date of surgery. -
Measure out your portions. 1/4 to 1/2 cup a meal on liquids. Or when you get to puree or solid foods keep it at 4 ozs max. Invest in a good digital food scale. ($20 to $30) It will help you alot. When you try to eye out your portions your old habits kick in. (Eyes bigger then your stomach) Now and then when I am in a rush and do not weight my meals I always portion too much and feel it.

Almost 3 Weeks Post Op: Calories?
Bob2013 replied to vsg_joanna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are eating 700-800 a day and walking an hour you are doing perfect. -
First thing you're gonna do when you reach goal
Bob2013 replied to jdillon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your question really got me thinking. Besides some new clothes I really dont know. I guess I will just evaluate what it took to get there and figure out how I can stay on track and keep the weight off. -
That's exactly what is happening, the air is working its way out as the Fluid goes in. During the first few weeks after surgery the stomach is swollen, causing a lot more restriction than you will have later on. That's why they tell you to take very small sips and bites, so the liquid and food has time to work its way through the swollen stomach.

It is really hard to explain the lack of hunger after surgery. I do get hunger pains, but very little cravings. When my stomach starts growling, a hard boiled egg does the trick and I am good for a few hours. Most of the time I see what time it is and know I have to eat something soon. If you have ever been on phentermine its sort of the same feeling.

Average weight loss during first 2 weeks (guys only please)
Bob2013 replied to tekjr1's topic in The Guys’ Room
Generally the bigger you are the faster you will lose initially. I was right at 41bmi on my surgery date and I think it was about 15 lbs lost at 2 weeks. -
how long did you wait 2 ride your motorcycles fellas
Bob2013 replied to sugarbear34's topic in The Guys’ Room
The actual stomach staple are not what you need to worry about. Its the incisions in your abdominal wall. If you break them open it can cause some serious complications. (hernia) any abdominal surgery( laparoscopic ) needs at least 4 weeks recovery. More if they open you up. So most doctors recommend no lifting over 20lbs for at least 4 weeks. -
If you want to voluntarily do a pre diet you dont want to go to just Water. Your body needs fuel to operate and stay healthy for the surgery. My preop diet was 2 Protein shakes a day and a dinner consisting of 4ozs of chicken, turkey or fish and a green vegetable(no butter or sauces) The preop diet is for one main reason. For your liver to lose its excess fat. During surgery the surgeon has to lift your liver out of the way to get to your stomach. A fatty liver is stiff and brittle and can be damaged very easily when they move it. When its lean it is soft and pliable. Also when your body loses weight, the internal organs are the first place to lose the fat.

Weight loss seems to have stalled
Bob2013 replied to mandablaire's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Its going to happen. But if you start measuring yourself with a tape measure, most of the time you will see inches dropping even though the weight is not. It is very weird how that works.
