great job, keep up the awesome work. I can definitely see a difference!!

You should be fine. The surgeons want you to be lightly active after surgery. Its too easy to let someone do the things you should be doing yourself, like fixing your own food, walking to the bathroom, ect. Being by yourself will force you to do those little things, making your overall recovery go alot faster.

The difference between 40 years ago and today is laproscopic surgery. While any surgery has its risks, Laproscopic decreases the risks quite a bit. And considering the future possible complications caused by a untreated hiatal hernia, esophageal cancer or ulcers and the surgery to fix them, getting it fixed seems logical.

During my pre op surgeon visits when they were going over the surgery and what to expect, one of the things they told me was during the surgery if I had a hiatal hernia that they would repair it while they were doing the sleeve. Is this common practice? As it turned out I did have a pretty severe hiatal hernia which explained much of my issues pre surgery with acid reflux. Now post surgery I have had no acid reflux at all. Not the slightest bit of heartburn. I am pretty sure this is due to the hernia repair. On that note I really recommend to everyone who is going for the sleeve or band to ask about this and make sure while the surgeon is in there that they do the repair if there is a hernia present. I see so many people who still have acid reflux after being sleeved and it makes me wonder if the surgeons are not fixing a problem that is right there and easily fixed.

@@lmaher718 I really dont think it slows recovery. All they do it stitch the opening so its tighter. There is no cutting or removal of any tissue. Its sort of like a button hole on your shirt thats too big and the button keeps popping out. The fix is just making the button hold a little smaller. I do think it adds to the restriction which is a good thing.

Stomach ache in the morning?
Bob2013 replied to coachmoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try taking it at night a couple hours before bed. It may be acid building up overnight. Also pay attention to how long you wait between your last meal/snack and bedtime. I know if I eat too close to bedtime I wake up feeling a little queasy. -
Is this Dehydration?
Bob2013 replied to Music Professor 26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She didnt mention what or when she ate last so id lean more towards a glycemia issue. And again with the dumping syndrome. With sleeve patients it is very, very rare to have this. And its usually brought on by eating extreme amounts of sugar's. I am sure there are individual cases where its triggered by less but again its pretty rare. -
Calorie Intake 3+ months Post Op
Bob2013 replied to LidiBell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at 7 months now and am trying for 1000 a day, but its hard to get that much in. My first 6 months were 600-800 -
Im lucky, my kid is grown and out of the house and my wife's eating habits reflect my own (just slightly higher calorie count) so I usually dont have that issue. Except for the couple times she ate my last morning star black bean burger I was saving for my work lunchbag. She knew I wasnt happy. But sounds to me like the OP needs to get some discipline going on the kids. All those Premier bars and shakes are some pretty expensive Snacks. A week in their room with no electronics seems appropriate.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing slide show of your progress. I wish I would have photo documented my loss the same way you did.. It really shows the stages of loss. -
The Paleo diet is somewhat the same principle as what is recommended for WLS patients. Except you have to adjust for the limited quantity you are able to eat. So you still have to lean towards getting your Protein first. Unfortunately that does not leave a whole lot of room for the veggies and fruits.

How do you know if your liver is shrinking?
Bob2013 replied to chrissy72w's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you are following the diet you will be fine. Your internal organs are the first things to lose fat. -
Stomach sleepers...
Bob2013 replied to nursejenny07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two months before I could sleep on my side. I placed a pillow under my knees to keep me from rolling over. -
Testosterone levels could be an issue but I would definitely try to initiate things. One bad part of being overweight is the difficulty in having sex. He may still be in that mindset. Once he sees how much better things are now he doesnt have to work with all that extra weight it may peak his interest a bit more. So initiate things for awhile. Makes the first moves. If it is a issue in his head, seeing that his new look is getting you excited may change things. Now if he flat out refuses, then it could be something else.

Did you feel more satiated/full after sleeve?
Bob2013 replied to Skywalker's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Its all about the reduced portion size. Sure you can eat carbs, sugar ect. But if you dont eat protein your gonna feel like shit. So you eat the protein and then you dont care to have anything else. -
What was your favorite thing to eat in the "pureed" stage?
Bob2013 replied to GingerSlim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Refried beans with a spoon of salsa or soft scrambled egg mixed into grits -
Edited-- Whoops my bad. I thought it was 2 months out not 14. First, 1200 is really too much this early on. At 2 months I had a hard time getting in 800 while eating the right foods. To get to 1200 you have to be eating foods you probably shouldn't be. Then you have to be honest with yourself. Are your portions actually what you are entering? Its in our nature to say we are only eating 3ozs of something when the scale actually said 3.2ozs. So if you are eating 1200 and your portions are ever so slightly over then at the end of the day your 1200 are probably closer to 1600+ Now this may not be the case, but I am sure most people in here would agree that when we portion our foods were more likely to give ourselves a little more than a little less.

The first couple days its more like walk to the bathroom, walk to the kitchen, standing while preparing food, doing basic chores. Maybe walk a couple minutes down the block and back. After that you should be walking at constantly increasing distances.

Try finding some support groups. Here in Florida we have them all over. Talking with others in the same situation can really help/

Would you do it again if you knew....?
Bob2013 replied to marie44's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
As much as I loved good food in the past, I have almost no regrets. Between the way I look at myself, loose skin and all to the way my wife looks at me and even the flirts I receive that were never there before. The thrill of being slim far outweighs the thrill and comfort food use to give. I will admit now and then I have a tiny bit of "food envy" but its nothing I dont get over very quickly. 7 months out and food is just something I need to survive. My diet is pretty limited. I eat almost the same things every day and I dont have a problem with it. -
Mine was 2 shakes and a meal consisting of 4ozs of lean Protein (chicken, turkey) and a green veggie with no sauces or cheese. Lost 10lbs in 2 weeks..

It really depends how much weight you have to lose. And also how much time elapses after the surgery. At 20 yrs old your in the best position for much of the extra skin to shrink over time but again it depends on how much you lose. Skin can only shrink so much.
