  1. Itching around the incision sites is normal. Also if you are on pain meds, they will make you itchy all over.
  2. The only thing you may need is a ride home from the hospital. And some hospitals may require it. Other than that you should be fine as long as you make the preparations ahead of time. My surgeon ordered my wife not to baby me, make me get up and fix my own food and stuff. They want you to be active right away.
  3. I wouldn't say anything until they make the offer, but you definitely need to tell them at that time. FMLA wont cover you and they can let you go with no reason if you go out for an extended period. Other than that, you dont need to give them any details as to what the surgery is, just its medically necessary.
  4. The wife has a batch of Chile cooking for when I get home. Low on the Beans heavy on the ground turkey. This was my favorite during the pureed stage.
  5. I would definitely mention you will be out for a week or 2. I think it would piss them off if you were hired and all of a sudden you went out for a couple weeks. Most people can go back to work in as little as 1 week if its not a strenuous job.

    Words of Wisdom.

Look for some local support groups. Being with like minded people may help get you back on track.
  7. I am sure you will be fine. I think the liquid would have came back up before it did any damage. But I would be careful, at such an early stage you could put stress on the staple line if you did this frequently.

    Stalls are a myth!

The only stalls I have had have been when I have not gone to the restroom for a couple days. Sorry i know its TMI. But also I have said this numerous times. Even when you dont have a loss on the scale, you probably had a loss with the measuring tape.
  9. Anyone with Medco get approved?? A few posters said thats the insurance they had but no one stated if they were approved

    Can u feel your food

I guess I had this a little the first few weeks whenever I took too big a bite. Very very small bites will probably help. Most of the time my bites were no more than 1/4 teaspoon
  11. That is amazing, keep up the great work. I could only hope to do that good. You are an inspiration to us all!!!
  12. I look at it this way. Addictions are all the same. For some it may be drugs or alcohol. For others its foods. When a addict decides to clean up, all it takes is just one time to slip back to where they were. So when it comes to certain foods, I feel its best to abstain than to take a chance. If any of us really had the willpower to control ourselves prior to the surgery, we wouldn't have needed the surgery to begin with. Today its a couple sips of soda or a bite or two of bread. Tomorrow its a whole glass and a 12 inch subway. I have worked too hard and put myself through too much to take a chance. I am in this for the long haul. Eating to Live not Living To Eat!!!!
  13. Got to the hospital at 8am, Knocked out for Surgery around noon, due to some delays with the person having surgery before me. Was brought to my room between 2 and 5pm (that part is a little hazy) by 10 or 11PM I was disconnecting the massage things they put on your legs and using the restroom and taking laps around the halls. Then back to the room, sleep a bit then up again for restroom and walking. You really need to push yourself through the first day and be as active as possible. The woman in the room next to me, thanked me for giving her the motivation to get up and move around. She seen me walk by the first couple times and then decided to join me every time I got up to walk. We were both released after 1 night.

    vitamins

BEWARE OF GUMMIES. I was taking gummy cal citrate after surgery until I looked at the nutritional info and found I was eating 120 calories a day just from the Vitamins. With us sleevers 120 calories is a whole meals worth. I would rather use those calories on some Protein.

Do you take PPI for life?

I was on omeprazole for the first 30 days post op per the surgeons instructions. Pre op I have severe acid reflux, but between the sleeve and the hiatal hernia repair done during the surgery I have had no acid problems since surgery. 10 weeks out.

    Mechanical Soft Foods

Hard boiled eggs, chicken, tuna, with some fat free mayo ran through a food processor til smooth. Mustard if you like. Spice to taste and tolerance. Refried Beans (fat free) with some salsa. I have heard but not tried people using plain greek yogurt with this. Cream of wheat Grits Soft scrambled eggs. (Soft meaning done but not cooked til browned.) Plain yogurt, with a spoon of sugar free jelly for flavor. Small Curd Cottage cheese Ricotta cheese. Mashed wite of sweet potatoes Light Soups (with the solid stuff blended) Strained baby foods(never tried this, but it is frequently recommended) The above list should give you enough variety to last awhile
  18. I have posted this before. Get a tape measure. Most of the time if your not losing pounds you are still losing inches. Also as someone else stated, be sure your getting enough fluids, this is important because if flushes your system. Also, chicken is a very dense Protein. Be sure you are taking very very small bites, nothing bigger than the size of your pinky nail. And also, CHEW CHEW CHEW. This should be a rule of thumb on anything you eat. By the time it gets swallowed it should be mush.
  19. My surgeon didn't have any restrictions with coffee. It was actually on the list for the week of Clear liquids. after 2 or 3 days I had a cup every morning. I drank it black with spleda til the full liquid period started and then used fat free half and half. With the fat free half and half you need to measure and track the calories and include them in your daily intake. Also, ----->> NO SUGAR<<----- none, zero, zilch. From here on out you really need to be avoiding all added sugar. Use a substitute. Once your use to it, sugar wont be missed.
  20. Keep a close eye on the temperature, if it goes up for any length of time be sure to contact your doctor because this would be the first sign of a possible infection. As far as the breathing, you need to keep trying to fill your lungs. They should have given you a spirometer at the hospital. If they did, make sure you are using it frequently. After Anesthesia your lungs need to be filled frequently to prevent moisture from pooling in your lower lungs and causing pneumonia. This can be a bit painful at first but it is very important as the possible complications will cause much more misery. Also, the hiatal hernia repair is really minimal compared to the rest of the surgery. Other than restricting the amount you can swallow it shouldn't cause any extra pain. The main things my surgeon told me to be sure I do after surgery was be sure I am breathing well, and walk, walk walk. Dont let anyone baby you. Walk around the house, fix your own foods ect. And keep progressing. I pushed myself through the first few days and by day 7 post op I was walking a 1 mile+ once to twice a day. The harder you push (without over doing it) , the quicker your recovery.

    Miss The Morning Coffee

I have been drinking coffee since day 3 or 4 post op. It was even listed on the diet instructions for the clear liquid, full liquid phases. As far as acid. Prior to surgery I had severe acid reflux. And now 2 months out I have not had heartburn at all. Not one little bit. I guess I am just lucky.
  22. Actually the fat you see is protection for your internal organs. It may lessen as you lose weight but there is always some in there, even on thin folks.
  23. Mix a scale and a tape measure. Most of the time if your not losing pounds you are still losing inches. This is as long as you are following the recommended diet.
  24. Just a good multi Vitamin, B12, and calcium citrate with Vitamin D. I just switched to injectable B12 with chromium for an extra boost. One thing to watch out for. This is a mistake I made. If using any kind of gummy Vitamins or calcium, look at the calories. For the first 2 weeks post op I was taking calcium citrate gummies. 2 gummies twice a day. Then one day I looked at the nutritional info and saw thet they were 30 calories each. So I was eating 120 calories a day just on the calcium. Such a waste of calories. I switched to a liquid with no calories. They dont taste as good but thats 120 calories I can use somewhere else

    Pureed Question

I went to pureed on day 21 post op, per my surgeons instructions. I didnt skip a beat on weight loss. 2 months out and I still never go more than 3 days without seeing some sort of loss. My more frequent foods during this period was: Egg Beaters, cooked on medium heat using non stick spray, I made sure they did not brown as they stiffen up a bit. Small bites and they were great and easy on the stomach. I either made 1/3 to 1/2 cup or 1/2 packet or instant grits and 1/4 cup of the egg beaters. After cooked I put the eggs on top of the grits so the moisture of the grits slightly softened the egg beaters. Canned chicken, tuna and hard boiled eggs with kraft non fat mayo. Puree them in a food processor. I added various things to them, Pickle relish(just a little) , lowrys seasoning, mustard. Even a little hot sauce in the eggs (yum) Lite, low cal Soups ran through a blender. One of my favs was ground turkey cooked well, drained and ran through a food processor so it was very tiny bits. Mixed in some low fat re fried Beans and salsa. Just make sure there are no chew able pieces. With all this I ALWAYS use my scale. 4 to 5 ounces maximum. I was very anal about this is for the most part I still am. If it goes slightly about 5 ounces I pull some out. If its not on my plate I dont miss it. And if I go over I always regret it because I feel like crap when I eat too much.
