Anger Tightens the Band
chloesmom replied to PrettyThick1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've been banded for 3 yrs. as soon as I was banded I had 3 different medical problems that threw me right off track. Got to the whole food stage & everything blew up. Last September I decided enough is enough. Back to exercise & somewhat watching my food. January this year got back on track with food & exercise. Sorry to say I still lose weight VERY slowly (15lbs since Jan) but I have lost 22 inches-6 of those on my waist. Down 2 sizes. I rarely get on my scale anymore. I don't care about the LB's the inches are worth it alone. Still struggle with food but now I've had ANOTHER surgery (dbl. hernia) & I have no appetite! WHAT. When I remember to eat I drink a Protein drink. Seeing the doc this week to be sure I can exercise again. The moral of this story is just to keep at it. It does work. Don't try to do it all at once when I did that all I did was backpedaling ( figuratively) I started going to a gym that is associated with the bariatric surgeon group that did my band. From Sept-Jan all I did was work out-didn't even change my eating- then I saw my doc to make sure all was ok with the band (wanted to blame something other than me) no problems there. He topped my band off then suggested I do a food journal until the next visit. Did that for 10 days. Stopped but it was enough to make me be more careful with my food. I love exercise (once I start it up) my trainer is the best. She is the most motivating person I have ever met. During all this I have only lost 10 lbs more but the best is that I have lost 22 inches since last September when I started back to the gym. My entire point to this is find something to get you back into it- food journaling, working out or just reading the material you were given. I have a great book that speaks in English ( not medical terms) about all the journeys thru lapband. You might try getting this - it's from a patients point if view. Bandwagon by Jean McMillan. Whatever you do- do something don't make getting the lapband a waste of time. It will eventually work for you once you start doing the work.

9 years post-op and my scale still freaks me out at times

Thanks, I actually thought about doing that. Going to bed earlier, getting up earlier. It's just that I retired the year I was banded & swore I'd never set another alarm. LOL -
9 years post-op and my scale still freaks me out at times
chloesmom replied to Jean McMillan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Jean. I do believe getting back into my training helped me get back on the "bandwagon". My worst thing is grazing at night. Last night I got a little hungry cause I actually only ate 4ozs for supper. WOW. So I peeled an apple & ate that instead of a whole sleeve of saltines which is what I really wanted. One day at a time. -
9 years post-op and my scale still freaks me out at times
chloesmom replied to Jean McMillan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 3 yrs in and only down 27lbs. To explain its not the LB's fault. Just a month after my surgery I had a major diverticulitis attack. Hospital for 4 days - I new antibiotic that almost killed me-shock reaction. Went home & started on the LB after surgery diet. Everything went through me nothing stayed in. Was told I needed a Colon resectioning -12" removed or it might rupture & be much worse. Still could not eat any kind of food went right thru again. 3 months of this & I lost 25 lbs. Stomach dr (3rd one) finally told me to take Florastor(probiotic) & aloe Vera juice. After a week on this I was finally able to eat & keep it in. Now is where the trouble starts- yeah I can eat & eat I did until I was back to my pre-surgery required weight. For 2 yrs I said the hell with it. Last Sept. I got the exercise bug. Been going to the gym associated with the LB surgeons 2-3 times a week Love my trainer. Finally broke down & went to the new dr who took over for my original dr. Got a plan for one month then I will see if I need a fill or they'll do one of those swallows to be sure the band is working. I am hopeful now after 3 years thought the band could do it all- realized I have to work at it too. Stupid me. I don't regret getting the band now I have to do the work that comes along with it. Sorry have read so many stories here had to share mine. -
Lorelei there is a support group that meets every 2nd Thursday @6:30pm at the Health First Cancer center lobby. It's a small but nice group who talk about what they have gone thru or are still going through. That's Melbourne. Our Dr who performed our surgeries sadly has bad health issues & is no longer working. But he has 2 new Drs in his office. Dr. Fusco was my surgeon but there is Dr. Tieu & the other I don't know. Just call the office they can tell you about fills & awesome exercise trainers. Marie Bernard

Can anyone give me an idea of a regular day of what you eat?
chloesmom replied to Christy Z's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon, Mark Fusco, has me on only 4 oz. TOTAL. If I had 4 oz of protein, there'd be no room for veggies. I am very frustrated. They haven't filled me that last couple of times cause I guess according to them I'm doing the right amount of hours between meals so I don't need a fill. But I have always eaten smaller during the day. It's at night I could eat and eat and eat. Got sick after being banded (diverticulitis) and had 12" of my colon removed. Then had 3 mos. of constant diarrhea. Lost lots of weight but have gained most of it back since I'm feeling better. I feel like telling him to take it out and just go back to on/off dieting again. So disappointed in myself but can't seem to kick start it back again. -

I guess I'm in the wrong place. I was banded, did not get the gastric sleeve. Sorry.
-
I suspect that is my problem also. I started to go back on the low carb (George Stella style). Had good success with that before LB. I guess I just have to realize carbs are a bad trigger for me and I have to do without.

I still have it almost a year later. It does tend to get soft once in while. Not sure what it is, just live with it. Someone times I think it's a reaction to overeating.

I think I have the right location now. Posted to the wrong place before. I am in need of a mentor. Someone who has been banded and has had success. I know people locally who have been banded and have not succeeded. I can't talk with them. I need help. I didn't go through all this to fail...again and again and again.

Please help. I don't see where I can post. I know I am replying to the wrong thing. I need a mentor. Been banded since August, 2013. Then got really sick from diverticulitis and having 12" of my colon removed in December, 2013. At that point I had lost 41 lbs. When I was able to eat again boy did I eat now my weight loss is only at 27lbs. LOST MY MOTIVATION. I need it back. Please help.
