Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
gurlygirl replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Good Morning Everyone Today is the day for me. I have to be at the hospital in 1 hr. I met with Dr. K yesterday afternoon and all I can say is what a GREAT guy. He did not make me feel rushed. Answered all of mine and dh questions. I told him I was very nervous about getting sick post op and he said he will do everything possible to try to ensure that would not happen. Wish me luck!! My nerves are a lil stressed this morning and I am not sure if it is in head or not, but also feel a tad nauseous. Which is not a good thing.... Woofay - Sorry we did not connect. We arrived at 3pm at his office and when I didn't see you in the waiting room I thought that you had been seen already and had left. I had it in my mind that I would be sitting there for awhile from previous posts I read. Yesterday, this was not the case. So, when I was ready to leave Mary mentioned that you waited for me in the waiting room for awhile and I wanted to thank you for trying to meet up with me. His new girls name is Brooke. I think she is a student training with him and I think will be sitting in during my surgery today. Shelbicallie - I hope your appointment today with the good Dr. goes well. My dh and I drove out to Parker last night. If I am feeling up to it, maybe we can meet up tonight. Talk to you all when I get to the other side of bandland.:clap2: -

Thanks for the encouraging words. I too hope my recovery is as quick as yours. I would love to think of it as a well deserved rest. I just hope I am feeling up to going back to work next Monday. Having said that I would love to see your list. You can send it to me in a private message it you get a chance. Congrats on your weight loss to date. :clap2: Thanks again. -
Katmeg99 - I would love to keep in touch. I am leaving late tonight to fly to Denver for my preop appointment tomorrow. Then Tuesday is "THE DAY". :omg: Starting to really feel like this is for real. :nervous There is no turning back. I have spent the money, bought flights for DH and myself, hotel, car rental. So, I am commited to my new healthier lifestyle. Congrats on the two pounds. :clap2: I will be logging in from the hotel tomorrow night. Please either post a message or send me a private message to let me know how you made out at your appointment. :gluck:

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
gurlygirl replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Woofay - I am so ready for my appointment. I am trying not to think about Tuesday too much. I am hoping after meeting Dr. K tomorrow, I will not be so nervous. :canada:I am from Canada, Vancouver to be exact. The LAP Band is not covered under our Medical. So the cheapest price in British Columbia is over $13,000-$18,000 depending on the surgeon. With the US and Cdn dollar almost at par, it was saving me $3000 to come to Denver. We drive to Seattle and fly for $197 return. So all in all, the travel expenses are pretty cheap. I am a dyed blonde too. Just went and had my hair done yesterday. I will be with my dh who has never been a pound overweight his whole life and he eats twice what I do.?? Go figure! But having said that, he has been super supportive of my decision to be healthier. Even though he loves me the way I am. He understands that I am not happy. Today is a packing day for me (which is proabably keeping me from focusing on the week ahead haha!). My kids will be staying with my parents for 4 days, so I have to get their stuff packed and make sure that I have everything I need for the surgery. I have PM Shelbicallie with our hotel info to possibly meet up or get at least talk on the phone sometime during our week in Denver. Looking forward to seeing you at Dr. K's tomorrow. :clap2:I am sure I will recognize you from your RR pics. Have a great week everyone!! Looking forward to bandland! :peace: -

artzygirl - You have had a rough go of it. I can't imagine having 2 surgeries in under 2 weeks. Hang in there. Your Dr. is only looking out for your health, and not to punish you with an extra long liquid preop. You will have a better recovery if go into the surgery with a smaller liver. The date will be here before you know it!! We are all here for you. -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Karen - I am experiencing the same feelings you are. I am being banded on Tuesday and like you, I have been syched about the band. Now that I am 3 days away, all this stuff is running through my head. Will I come out of the surgery? Will I come home to my kids? Will this work? Will I finally be able to lose the weight? I am hoping littleroo is right that surgery day will bring with it a calming effect. I see all the other bandsters on this thread and other threads and most of them are nervous wrecks and stressing out and then after the surgery they seem at peace with their decision. So every time I start getting freaked out, I try reasoning with the fat girl inside that this is it for her. We are coming to the end of the road and I am finally dumping her, no more friendship!! haha. She is my fat friend that won't let the skinny girl out. hehe The before after pix thread has been a huge motivator for me, when I question spending $9950 + travel cost. In the big picture, it is a small price to pay for a healthy lifestyle. YOU ARE WORTH IT!! :woot: Are you being banded at Crowne or Health South? Maybe we can meet up sometime during the week. My surgery will be across the street from Dr. K at Health South. We will be leaving for home mid morning on Thursday. Here is to our new life! -
Katmeg99 - I hope everything goes well for you on Monday with your weigh in. I think it is hard enough trying to deal with the surgery itself, but to have the stress like you have of losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time is very difficult. I am being banded on the 18th and I hope you enter bandland with me girl! THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS!! :gluck:

I am not telling my work that I am getting the LAP band next week while I am on vacation. In Canada, we have a 1 year maternity leave and my boss just dreads the thought of me having another baby and going on maternity leave. He will be stressing if he see's me come back from vacation with a pregnant looking belly!! I will be the talk of the office for sure. LOL :gossip::preggers::omg: -

Wanttobmeagain - I asked the same question re: prego belly on the last page of this thread, but no one responded? I am being banded next Tuesday the 18th and would like to know if my belly will have gone down by Monday when I return to work. -
Hi Kimmie - I am being banded on 9/18. I am nervous too, but I look at the thread "Before and After Pix" and I want to be able to post on their down the road. That is my motivation when my nerves try getting the better of me. I wish you all the best on Friday with your banding. Please post as soon as you are feeling up to it. :gluck: Would love to hear how you are doing and any tips for beating the gas pains everyone talks about. I leave for Denver Sunday evening. My preop is Monday afternoon and then I enter bandland on Tuesday morning at 11am.

Woofay - I am being banded next Tuesday with Dr K. and will be in his office for my preop on Monday at 3:00pm. I would love to meet up. Maybe you can calm my pre surgery nerves!!! I am glad everything went well for you yesterday. Did you have a lot of swelling after the initial banding surgery? Just wondering how I will look when I go back to work the following Monday? 4 months preganant? :omg: lol :whoo: -

Banded 9/5/07 Not Feeling To Good!!
gurlygirl replied to REDGIRL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stacy73 - You better change your September to Thanksgiving goal. At the rate your losing you will make your goal as early as tomorrow. LOL! Do you not have the desire to eat? How about drinking fluids...how much are you able to take in each day? 9 more days and I will know what you are all talking about. Whoo Hoo! -
You are now being banded the day after me. :whoo: I think I recall that you were originally thinking of going to Dr K. in Denver? But the amount you said your cashiers check was for, I am assuming you went to someone more close to where you live. I thought it would have neat to possibly meet up with another newbie bandster, if you were one day after me and seeing Dr. K. The week and a bit should go by pretty fast. My kids are staying at my moms for a few days, so I have to get their stuff packed and my stuff in order before we fly out. I had my last supper at Olive Garden on Wednesday evening. Ate a big plate of Pasta and a few breadsticks. Good luck on your preop diet. I started mine today. No carbs. Felt a little empty this morning without my morning coffee ritual and I am not a morning eater so this morning I did not feel well to say the least. :puke:This afternoon has been fine though. I guess it should get easier by the day or at least I am hoping. :gluck:

Katmeg99 - You can do this! An 11 lbs weightloss already is a huge success in itself on a liquid diet. You are scheduled for the same date as me 9/18/07.:whoo: You can be my band twin. lol I'll be there for you for motivation and support. I start my pre-op diet on Saturday and I will definately be needing all the help I can get. :cheer2::banana -

Good Luck to : Guinessgirl77, PCracker, suemtt, purpletina79, and rwel4 You will be the first of the September 2007 Bandsters to get to the other side of this journey!! Keep us posted on how you are doing following your surgery. We want to be here for you. 2 weeks tomorrow for me and I am getting excited and nervous all at once! Woo Hoo -
I agree with time4me...I don't like the idea of altering my digestive track and you don't have the option of going back. I have heard of lots of people who have the gastric bypass and have problems with malabsorption and not getting proper nutrients because it bypass' the intestines so quickly you don't get everything out of your food that you should. These are just a couple of reasons why I know the lap band is the right choice for me. I would definately get a second opinion and do lots of research so you make the best decision for you. Best of luck to you.

Ghostbuster - Good Luck with your upcoming banding! Keep us posted on your recovery.
