  5. Try to focus on some positive things regarding your sleeve. how much weight have you lost? Any non scale victories? did you take pre op measurements? if so, take them again and see how many inches you have lost. Sorry you are having a bad day. THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

I need serious help with support

Hey! Maybe seeing your hospitals nutritionist would help. have a consult with him/her and see if you can come in weekly for weight and diet checks. just an idea. i know that weekly weigh-ins help me a lot. Congrats on your loss so far

How much protein is too much?

In my surgeons new book "Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success: A practical guide to help maximize your weight loss results" (2013), he states the following: "...some surgeons and healthcare professionals are going overboard and pushing too much Protein. Some programs are telling patients to eat 80 grams of protein a day. I believe this is way too much! your body probably cant process this much protein healthily. The 'average' American women only needs about 45 grams a day and a man needs about 55 gms a day. The initial push for such high protein levels was due to the malabsorption that occurred with gastric bypass and duodenal switch patients...All the protein we need is provided by our natural food sources, especially given our advances in surgery that lead to better absorption of nutrients."(pg 50). Just thought I'd share

    Week 5

Why arent you eating or drinking? nausea? No interest? Food taste funny? by 5 weeks i was on solids and introducing new foods into my diet. Yes, keep up with the fluids best as you can.
  9. I am 8 months post op and have been at a stall for 2 months. So, i finally made an appointment to see the bariatric surgeon to find out what is going on. I saw him today. It was very interesting. Thought I'd share. He basically told me that the sleeve is working just fine, but my diet needs work. He told me that most of what I was taught about the diet is wrong. His recommendations FOR ME are: Protein first, but get all protein from fresh sources no Protein shakes NO DAIRY NO ALCOHOL No beef Jerky no cheese sticks only really "good" quality cheeses in limited amounts only a bariatric Multivitamin (no other supplements needed) first thing in AM- a big glass of Water daily breakfast- coffee and a piece of fresh fruit lunch- a great big salad dinner anything fresh and lots of fish. My exercise regimen is ok Im gonna start going to weekly educational/support meetings with weekly weigh ins. I got a copy of his new book and so far it is really good. it is available on Amazon. "Ultimate gastric sleeve success: a practical patient guide to help maximize your weight loss results" by Dr. Duc C. Vuong" ...feeling hopeful

    Mirena IUD & Surgery?

I have had the Mirena IUD for years. I was just sure to tell the docs that that was one of my meds. Since surgery i have not had any changes. My menstrual cycle is still very scant and irregular.

    Wigs?

Between 4 1/2 months to 6 months out i lost about a 1/3 of my hair volume. No one else but me noticed (except for the hubs who was always picking hair off my clothes cause i shed so much). It didnt come out in Patches or anything. So no need for a wig in my case. Best of luck!

    Breaking the stall

More about stalls from the book. check this out. i used to think this way. "i find that if a patient thought before surgery that she could eat the same thing after surgery, but just less of it, and has not changed her food choices, then she is probably struggling with her weight loss. With that way of thinking, i can almost guarantee that they have stopped losing weight and are still overweight or have started regaining their weight."

    Breaking the stall

Yes, my protein goal (as an average American female) is 45 gms per day. to paraphrase his book- the push for high protein diets is based on malabsorption that occurs with the bypass and duodenal switch. (pg 50).

    Breaking the stall

so, i reading Dr. Vuongs book. he recommends the following for Protein sources: veggies- like broccoli beans- including lentils soy- tofu, edemame, soy milk whole grains- like couscous, bulgur, and quinoa Nuts fish- preferably fresh, wild caught and then sparingly: chicken, turkey meat dairy- occasional good quality cheeses, never milk prepackaged protein supplements So there are some ideas for me.

    Breaking the stall

This is a new perspective for me as well. ill let yall know how it goes.

    Breaking the stall

Well, the big salad can have meat in it. and also he recommended lots of edemame, soy, tofu. At this point he just wants me to try to get in protein from fresh foods. protein has always been hard for me to get enough of as it is.
  25. Yes, stalls are very frustrating. But i have found that during times when the scale isnt moving, the inches are coming off. So please, do measurements once a month and remember to take those pics
