    Straws

I used straws too. I was able to get in more fluids that way. I had no problems.
  3. I am 3 1/2 months out. My BMI was 39 and I was self-pay. I have lost 44 lbs so far, and I am generally happy with my decision.
  4. Oh Wow! I am looking forward to what others will say about this too. Maybe also post this in the Vet's Forum. Maybe they can help.
  5. Wow! We are all losing!! Good for us.
  6. There seems to be a lot of misinformation about whether or not we can still be hungry after weight loss surgery. I'm tired of being told that it is all in my head. Especially by people who have not yet had surgery. those of us that still get hungry need some encouragement and understanding I am 3 1/2 months post op and still get hungry. So I thought I would pass on a little info. Although most of the ghrelin we have circulating in our bodies comes from the fundus of the stomach, it is also secreted from the pancreas, hypothalamus, kidneys, and the pituitary gland. (Wikipedia). "Some studies have found an increase in ghrelin, some have found a decrease, and others have found no change in ghrelin following bariatric surgery". From Changes in Ghrelin Levels Following Bariatric Surgery: Review of the Literature. Tymitz, k., Et al. Obesity Surgery, 2011, January, 21(1), 125-130. It is still possible to be hungry. Listen to my stomach. But if you don't believe me-- please do a bit more research for yourself.

    Ghrelin and hunger

Yes! I am not alone! Thanks for responding. Grammy, yes, I was hungry when i was fresh post op and it is still the same. What do I do about it? I eat very small meals or Snacks when I get too hungry (I stay on plan). I also try to stay busy and that really helps me to not think about it all the time. But I cant say that Im not disappointed. I have lost 44 lbs tho!

    Ghrelin...do we get it back?

Sometimes hunger is real hunger. It's not all in my head. Ghrelin is produced Mostly by the fundus of the stomach. It is also produced in the pancreas, hypothalamus, kidney and the pituitary gland. (Wikipedia) "Some studies have found an increase in ghrelin, some have found a decrease, and others have found no change in ghrelin following bariatric surgery". From Changes in ghrelin levels following bariatric surgery: Reviiew of the literature" Tymitz, et al, Obesity Surgery, 2011, January 21(1), 125-130.
  11. I am soooo sorry!!!!! I meant to say that ghrelin is also produced by the pancreas!! It is also secreted by the hypothalamus.
  12. I am 3 months post op and have been keeping a detailed food diary. i thought it might be helpful to some if i made a list of all the foods and liquids i was consuming in the fulll liquid phase. hope it helps someone. Here it is in no particular order: Protein shakes (of course), cream of wheat, greek yogurt, yogurt, strained Soups (even egg drop soup), sf popsicles, sf Jello, sf pudding, frozen greek yogurt, milk
  13. Ghrelin is also produced in the spleen. Real hunger is possible. It's not always head hunger. Please try to understand that and try to be compassionate because it sucks to have spent all that money and still feel hungry. I have lost 44 lbs in 3 months...the hard way.

    Set back?

I am 3 1/2 mos postop. I still have trouble with water. It feels heavy or something. I have better luck with cold crystal light lemonade or warm tea (not too hot).
  16. Are you taking an acid reducer. If not call your doc. I take Prilosec twice a day and it totally controls the heartburn. Feel better!

I started eating salad at about six out. I am 3 1/2 mos postop I eat salad frequently and have no problems with it. I have found that romaine lettuce and others like it are easier to chew well, compared with iceberg.
