Hello, I live between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids and had Lapband surgery in Grinnell in January. So far have lost 40+ lbs., but have ways to go. I was glad to find this group.

I have some indigestion - my lapband was put in on Thursday, Jan. 24. I feel like I have a lot of energy - but the indigestion is a little bothersome. I have tried some applesauce and some pudding. I am thinking of eating just my Protein shakes for the next two weeks. That should keep me going. Any thoughts?

By the way - I live in Iowa. We have had 30 1/2 inches of snow here this winter so far. This is a record - also it has been down to 15 below - BRRRR - a good time to stay in. I have to start on the quilt again for my daughter in Florida. It is a King size and I have it about 3/4 done. Also need to start exercising again. Dr. said that I can't exercise (lift weights) for about 4-6 weeks.

I had a pretty good night. Did any of you have indigestion after your band surgery. Seems like I am very "bloaty" and "gurgly". What did you do for it? How long does it takes this to go away? I haven't gotten on the scale yet - but I feel like I've lost already. I'm soo glad that this is done. Have to get a little worse to get better!!!

I was banded this past Thursday (yesterday). I am home today and feeling pretty good except when I took the pain medication without eating food. I was sort of dizzy - just slept it off. I am 61 and am looking forward to being a lean and mean grandma by summer

I am nervous!!! and excited. I have been at this since August and finally my date has come. Lots of ups and down, but I definitely think that it will be worth the effort. My insurance first denied me and I sent them a 187 page document of why I needed to have the surgery. They approved me in 3 days. I have stocked up on some baby food and Protein drinks for my first weeks. I have a BMI of 37 - so it will be interesting to see how fast the weight comes off. Any advice to this??? I hope to be slim and trim by at least July. Probably won't have all the weight off - but at least a good portion. It was I and my husband's 40th anniversary this past Dec. I don't want to go on a cruise until I have lost some of the weight. Thanks for the input. Glad to have a 60's group here.

I will be 61 in Dec. I was orginally turned down by BC/BS of Iowa - after going through all the testing - passin all that. The're reasoning was that I didn't have enough documentation on my weight loss over that past three years. In 2004 I had a lung disease that caused me to gain over 40 lbs (I was overweight before because of prednisone. Anyway, I put together a 200 page document including diets, menus, Dr. visits, exercise things, Dr. notes, hospital notes etc. Had it bound and sent it of to BC/BS. It took them 1 week to approve me. I will be banded on Jan. 10 and looking forward to it. I am sooooo ready to be the thin person that I was about 7 years ago. This site is great. Never think that you are too old. I had originally contacted the Univ. of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics which does the laproscopic bypass. They said that they're cut off was 60 years - so I went for the LAP.

I also have Medicare as my primary hospital insurance. I will have my surgery at Grinnell, Hospital in Grinnell, Iowa. You might try contacting Medicare or going to their sight on the web and do a search. Previous to finding out about this hospital - my only choice in Iowa was to go to Chicago!!! Good Luck -
anyone here from the midwest (USA)?

Hi, I too am from the midwest. Between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, Iowa. I am going to Dr. Kermode in Grinnell, Iowa. I have been approved and am meeting him for the 2nd time on Wednesday. The next thing for me is waiting for insurance. They didn't think it would be a problem. How soon do you feel "back to your self after the surgery? I have also had a problem with retaining Fluid. Hope that will go away too. I was exercising regularly, but haven't in about a month. Need to get back. This is a great forumn. -

I have been through the testing, testing and more testing. I have been approved by the surgical team however, I have GERD. The Dr. wants to talk with me on Wed. Next step is waiting for insurance approval. Dr. doesn't think that will be a problem. Anyone else have GERD. From what I have read. The LBD improves this situation. I will be having the surgery with Dr. Kermode in Grinnell. Hopefully before Christmas.:nervous -
Are There ANY Eastern Iowa Bandsters?
klassicant replied to NINNYED's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, I am a newbie. I hope to be banded before Christmas by Dr. Kermode in Grinnell. This has been quite a journey through all the testing, and all. I have GERD and Dr. Kermode wants to talk with me about it before the surgery. I have read quite a lot about it and I know that I will be fine with it - and as I lose weight, hope that eventually I will recover from it - although it doesn't bother me that much now. I take two prevacid/day. I also had a bad lung disease for two years - hence why I need to lose the weight (nearly 65 lbs that I added because of prednisone) on top of the 30 that I was overweight before. I can't wait - my next hurdle is insurance, however, the Dr. doesn't think that there will be any trouble there. This forum is the greatest. By the way, I live between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City on the Coralville Reservoir. So I am also an Eastern Iowan!!! I am 60, but feel 50 and hope to feel 39 after this weight is off. Anyone my age with positive things about to say about the LBS is welcome. Thanks. :car:
