  4. Dr. Sonnanstine is an EXCELLENT Doctor and I will miss him. I am happy for him that he has this promotion and moved on up. On the other end, I was already driving an hour from West Chester to keep him as my Doctor from my June 2007 Banding. Unfortunately, now that he is even further South, I will have to look for someone up near my residence. Make sure you tell him his is missed!!!

    Cincinnati Bandsters

Hi All! Can anyone reccommend a Dr to me. I use to travel to NKY where I had my procedure done (1 hr each way), just found out he took a permanent leave of absence. I moved to West Chester (Liberty Township) Ohio about a year ago. Looking for both a Dr & Support Group. Thanks!
  7. Thanks Cindy! It's been a while since I have logged on. I got a bit side tracked and now need to get re-focused.

How has your process been going?

    popcorn

I have had food stuck twice now. The first was painfull, the 2nd time no pain, just mental frustration after realizing I wasn't able to keep anything down and I was feeling drained and hungry. The pain though is like the constant chest pain of the ate too much or have gas feeling along with burning sensation. Well...to top it off, I tried to wait it out and see if it would eventually "digest" and pass or to see if I could purge it out myself. Neither worked. One the first lodging, they did a complete UNFILL. It was a relief BUT VERY DEVESTATING to my moral. Lets just say, zero restriction---and the wierdest part was when I drank a cold or hot beverage, I felt it go straight down to the bottom part of the stomach. The doctor left it unfilled for 2 weeks to aide in healing. Then I was back on track for SLOW fills. IT took nearly 6 weeks to get me back up to where I was before. I GAINED 15 POUNDS!!! The 2nd time, I waited it out, but after 6 days of not being able to even keep liquids down (not even sips). I had to go in. He said due to waiting and all of the unneccessary purging, I caused unneeded irritaton and swelling...thus the explanation on liquids. I BEGGED him not to due a complete unfill. I didn't like the gain the last time and how I had felt about it. So he did a partial (0.5 cc) and it was enough to get it down. SO...my lesson was learned. Chew - chew - chew. I know the first time was because I got startled with one of my children falling and without thinking I just swallowed what I had just put into my mouth out of reflex. The second time I tried a new nut and dried fruit mix.

    Low-Carb and NOT loving it!

Need a sweet tooth fixer??? The "Mock Danish" is excellent (1 beaten egg w/2 oz softened cream cheese, splash of vanilla, and a packet (or 2) of splenda), I mix together and microwave for about 1 minute. Tastes is very similar to the real deal. Also, depending on your restrictions (fat content/calorie intake) another sweet treat for my dh & I was ricotta cheese with splenda and splash of vanilla (or any other flavoring added...SF chocolate is good in it too.) Good luck, in time the cravings will pass. If you get tired of eggs...Mock Egg salad can be made with Cottage Cheese and a splash of mustard and SF Pickle Relish.

    protein pancakes

Actually, I have made Protein Pancakes...or at least a version of them. Rachel Ray has a "Gourmet Pancake Reciepe" that I altered and used Wheat Flour & Soy Flour, in addition to the eggs and vanilla flavored yogurt you add to the mix it was pretty packed with protein. The yogurt base also made them tasty. No syrup needed (at least I didn't). I make them and freeze them from time to time. In addtion to the pancakes, Rachel Ray's reciepe calls for sauted peas & corn as a side to the pancakes (sauted in the renderings of bacon or panchetta). YUM-O

    Breakfast recipes or ideas?

I have 3 items I eat regularly for Breakfast. One being the traditional 20g Protein Bar (Love the South Beach Chocolate...takes a while to eat, but it works well especially to nibble on all morning while at work). Second favorite is what my husband refers to as "County Hash" Rather a version of kicked up scrambled eggs. I brown either ground turkey or ground sirloin, drain & set aside, saute some onions/mushrooms/garlic, and then toss the meat back in, favorite spices...to the pan I then add a dozen beaten eggs, occassional stir the mixture as the eggs set, top with cheese. My kids LOVE this... and it is better than your standard eggs. Sometimes I will also add shredded potatoes to the mix. Very filling. I like the left overs (if there are any). And finally, my third choice, I will grab a can of tuna or chicken of the sea, drain and mix with a tablespoon or two of any condiment of my choosing (typically I go for the spicy brown mustard or horadish mayo) Also good on a whole grain wheat thin crackers. Hope this helps! I find meals are better when I get creative.

    Kentucky, "who's your Doctor"

Hi All! I was banded in June '06 by Dr. Tom Sonnanstine at the Tri-State Surgical Weightloss Center in florence, KY. Awesome Doc! His staff was great. Was accepted the first time (or they did all the necessary paper work and I never knew about it). Insurance was United Healthcare. Luckily....I did already have multiple months worth of weightloss counseling documented at OB/GYN due to back to back pregnancies. Only had to pay the $600 program fee. Started off 100 pounds overweight, so far down 1/3rd...have a lot more to go. Had 3 months of minimal acitivity due to moving and starting a new job. Had my second fill the otherday and looking to get back on track. Time, patience and dedication is what it takes!:bounce:
  14. Hi Everyone, I was banded in June '06 in Florence, Kentucky by Dr. Sonnanstine (Awesome Doc). Two weeks ago my husband, 4 children (2 step & 2 biological) and I moved up here to Liberty Township (but our mortgage papers had both West Chester and Middletown listed...still confused about the area.) I had my 2nd fill yesterday. (Got a little off track with all the stess). Doc is giving me two months to try and get back on track. I want to do myself proud. I am looking for a support group and some fellow banding friends. My exercise has been slim to none, unless chasing around a 2 year old and a 1 year old counts. Any leads?
