  1. I'm ten months out and down 108 lbs. I'm about 6-7 lbs. from my doctor's goal and 16-17 lbs. from my goal. Wearing a size 10/12 on the bottom and a medium on top. Pretty much all of my extra weight is in the stomach/hip area. Feeling great and trying to start jogging. Hoping that will lean out the middle section. This photo shows me and my daughter on Easter. ????

    June Post Ops!

Congrats to everyone!! I'm so impressed. I haven't been losing very much lately, but I think my body is adjusting/changing. People keep saying that I look like I'm melting, when in fact it's just a few lbs. a month. I'm down 108 lbs. and feeling great. Wearing a size 10/12. Would love to get to an 8. Here's a picture of me with my daughter on Easter.

    June Post Ops!

Thanks for the kind words. I think I need to participate on this forum more often. It keeps me on track!! I bought a swimsuit at Kohls for our upcoming vacation. I don't love it, but it's not too bad. Hoping I'll need a new one by summer! Thanks again for the encouragement!! I'm a teacher and we have to offer snacks to our kiddos these next few weeks due to extended days related to all the snow days we've taken. Having a classroom filled with Cheez-Its, Teddy Grahams, Goldfish, and Rice Krispy treats makes it hard to stay on track once the kiddos head home. Three more weeks of this and my classroom can once again be void of junk food!! Can't wait!!

    June Post Ops!

It's been forever since I posted. My weight loss has slowed down significantly, but I'm not really exercising the way I should be. Putting together a home gym this weekend. Bought an elliptical to go with our recumbent bike and treadmill. Also bought a TIVO for the basement, so I can work out to a show. Hoping this kick starts things. I am down 99 lbs. as of today, but it was 100 lbs. a week ago. Hate when the scale goes up!! I've always been able to eat more than most people I see post, and so willpower is really coming into play lately. I'm aiming for 800-900 calories a day, but honestly I could probably double that quite easily if I wanted to. I still want to lose almost 30 lbs., so I need to get moving!! I'm in size 12 or 14 at this stage and I'm no longer obese. There's so much to celebrate, but my journey continues.

    June Post Ops!

Hello All! It's been forever since I've posted. Still not used to the new format. Some recent NSV: a friend called me petite, I can wear skinny jeans without looking like a total fool, I find myself fitting between obstacles in my 2nd grade classroom that I couldn't have before, I'm out of plus sizes, I fit in some size medium tops, I feel the urge to move more, and I am 100 lbs. down from my highest!! Crazy ride these last 7 months. Congrats to everyone. Love the posted pictures. I get around to that soon.

    Time off work

I had minor complications. They removed my gallbladder and repaired a hernia during surgery. I got an infection in the area where the gallbladder used to sit. This required two additional one day hospitalizations. I had 7 weeks off and I needed 6 of them. As a teacher, it worked well since it was over the summer. Good luck!!
  7. I asked for and received a super accurate scale for Christmas. It weighs me one pound less than our old scale!! The best part is that this officially makes me overweight!! Yay, I'm no longer obese. Oh, how I hate that word!!

    Hernia Surgery

I'm almost 6 months out and I've been plagued with nausea, constipation/impaction, and vomiting for the last 6 weeks. My doctor was hoping to hold off on the hernia surgery until I was a year out, but my flare ups were occurring more often. I had a bad night last Thursday and it started again this Tuesday. The umbillical hernia looked larger and was bulging more, so I headed to the ER. They did the scan and saw that the bulge was mostly fat, but some bowel was also involved. Had surgery yesterday. It was mostly laparoscopic, but I do have one larger incision. Also have another dreaded drain. Came home last night and feeling pretty good. Pain meds can wear off without me noticing a whole lot. Hoping this solves my problems. Just wanted to share in case anyone else is facing this. The surgery, at least so far, hasn't been too bad, other than seeing the scale go up 10 because of the IV fluids!! Really wanting to enjoy the 73 lb. weight loss do far. Hope this does it for me.
  9. While driving to my in-laws today, we stopped at Frisch's to use the restroom. I decided to get a small vegetable soup to hold me over. It didn't agree with me. About an hour later, I got foamy and gassy. We're at their house now. Everyone is enjoying a turkey dinner, but me. Let's just say that I now know their toilet more intimately than I care to. Hoping this passes soon!!

    April 2013 Post-Op Group

What ailments have you had? What's your degree in? It sounds like you need to find more purpose in your life. Have you looked into finding temporary or even part time ways to use your degree? I quit teaching years ago to stay home with my daughter and getting back into the workforce took effort and time, but it paid off. I had to work as an instructional assistant or substitute for years. Perhaps you could find something similar. Just remember, this too shall pass. Hang in there and keep looking for ways to turn it around.

    June Post Ops!

Hello All! I had surgery 6/18. Surgery weight was 265. Current weight is 191. Goal weight is 140. Still have a long way to go, but loving the lose so far. It's been a tough ride. I realize it's nothing compared to others, but I'm ready to just feel normal. I had a hernia repair and gallbladder removal along with my rny. My gallbladder site got infected. Two more one day stays in the hospital before that got taken care of. Then about 6-8 weeks ago, I really started struggling with constipation/impaction. I'd take M of M and be fine for a few days. Then, I'd be impacted and sick again. With the impaction came nausea and often vomiting. Knew I had a hernia (still not sure if it's the same one repaired), but they wanted to hold off on repairing it. They weren't convinced it was the source if my impaction problem. Last week, I headed to the ER with nausea and a hernia that looked suddenly much more pronounced. They did a CT scan and scheduled surgery for the next day. Surgery went pretty well. Had no idea I'd have 5 incision sites! All are laparoscopic except the one where the actual hernia was. That's a 2 inch incision. They removed a baseball sized clump of fat and put my bowel back where it should be. Hoping this does the trick!!! Still a bit constipated, but nothing major yet. Head back to the doctor today to get my drain removed. That should help me feel better. On stool softeners, Miralax, and probiotics. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. I want my energy back. I'm a 2nd grade teacher and believe me, I need energy!!

    Hernia Surgery

Mine was an umbilical hernia. A hernia is a hole in your abdominal wall that fat and tissue can protrude through. I had a hernia repair during my RNY surgery, but it obviously didn't hold. I was told that my doctor probably didn't use mesh originally. The physician's assistant explained that they don't like to use mesh during a RNY surgery due to increased risk of infection. I am far from an expert, but this is my understanding. I can say that I have 5 incision sites from the hernia repair, which includes a drain site. All are small except the incision right below my belly button. That one is about 2 inches. I came home within a few hours if this surgery. They said most hernia repair is done outpatient. Good luck to you.
