I concurr with what @rbtnln says. Your head says "I'd love to have a three piece fried chicken dinner from Church's!" but try to do it and your sleeve will tell you that you can force down about half a piece and it won't be pleasant. The VSG is seriously a self-policing weight loss procedure. Hang in there, it will get better.

Looking for a surgeon in Atlanta
Taphophile replied to Gammy10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sleeve was done by Dr. William Johnson (http://www.atlantabariatriccenter.com/meet-the-atlanta-bariatric-team/meet-the-surgeons) at Johns Creek Emory Hospital. My experience with him and that practice was great. My neighbor and her daughter had bypass surgery done by Dr. Hart at the same practice. Good luck with your sleeve experience. I had mine done back in November and it has truly been a life-changing experience. -
Two days post-op, minimal discomfort
Taphophile replied to jluv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I was one of the lucky ones as well. The main thing I feared was nausea because I HATE to throw up, but I didn't have a minute's worth. I didn't even take my pain medicine. I honestly feel that I could have gone back to work in a couple of days, but I went ahead and used up some of my sick leave. -

Not enjoying food:(
Taphophile replied to justforme2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad you asked this question, and I'm so glad that I'm not alone. Like many others here, I really don't want to eat anymore. It has actually become my "job" to make sure I eat and drink enough in a day. Although I certainly don't want to go back to the old days of food ruling my life, it would be nice to actually want to eat a reasonable amount of food and not have that slightly queasy feeling after eating a couple of ounces. I'm four months post-op and have lost 65 pounds. I love the progress, but do miss eating. -
How do you tell when you are full?
Taphophile replied to acampbell1318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, I don't feel any hunger and likewise, I don't really feel "full." I eat slowly and when I reach a certain point, I feel vaguely nauseous and stop. I've experienced the hiccup thing too. I think the key is slow and chew. . . -
How bad is the nausea?
Taphophile replied to SoCalMomOfFour's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say that going into my surgery, nausea was the thing I feared most. I absolutely HATE to throw up! That said, I had zero nausea from my surgery and didn't take the medications that the doctor prescribed for post-op. One thing my doctor did do, however, was prescribe Emend to be taken the morning of the procedure. I can't say that it resulted in my good fortune, but if it did, it was well worth the money. As I recall, it cost about $80 and wasn't covered by insurance. I think it's something they mainly give chemo patients. Good luck! -

Great post! You seem to have a great attitude about your situation. Never trust a fart? That's always been my watchword! Once burned, twice shy. . . -
When will i start to feel ok?
Taphophile replied to Sabredy12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been very lucky as well. I was sleeved on 11/22 and haven't really had any pain or nausea. Other than the obvious change in diet and eating habits, I feel almost normal. If i had a really active job I'm not sure that I'd be doing this well, but so far, so good. -

Are You Happy That You Had The Sleeve Procedure?
Taphophile replied to love to be at goal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Would I? Heck yes! I'm now almost 3 weeks post-op and I've dropped 27 pounds. I've had very few negative side effects. Yeah, I still WANT to eat a big, fat meal, but then my sleeve reminds me that it's all in my head. I hope all of you with problems are able to get them behind you as soon as possible! -

Mmmmmmmm... Popeyes! Number 1 in my book! I'm in Metro Atlanta, so I know them well. Maybe some day I'll have a piece, but I suppose the 3 piece is ancient history! -
Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...
Taphophile replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my sleeve on 11/22, so I'm two weeks out. At my ten day appointment, I was down 20 pounds. So far I've been complication-free, knock on wood. Looking forward to down the road. . . -
Good morning all. I'm now two weeks post surgery and I'm very pleasantly surprised at how smoothly things have gone so far. I'm a 56-year-old guy and I weighed 345 at surgery and at my ten day pos-op appointment I was at 325. Whoa! I have graduated to one Protein shake a day and soft chicken, turkey, and fish. So far, so good. My biggest challenges so far have been forcing down enough liquid and Protein shakes. Oh, and although I'm not hungry at all, I REALLY want to go buy a box of fried chicken and scarf that stuff down. Old habits die hard I suppose. Based on my experience so far, I would wish this on anyone thinking about surgery. I had a lot of angst going into it based on all of the various stories that I read. Fortunately, my experience has been great. Keep on keeping on, folks!
