New to group, 58 and getting cold feet
Carlotta1 replied to 2feelgood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You r not too old to start living a healthily life.. I was so scared like u. I vacillated back and forth..whether it is for me or not, After one month post op......I am not in the food the way I was before the surgery. I have to remind myself to eat for nutritional reason, not to just stuff my face like I did before., food is not on my mind all the time, I am not hungry. So if this appeals to u..go for it. I had no complications. However, u do have to be patient as u go through the eating staging. It takes time for stomach to.heal. -
A Little taste of heaven
Carlotta1 replied to BabySheldon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember when I had my first taste of good broth after the surgery when I return home.. It was marvelous. If u would have told me that before the surgery, I would not have believed it. Yes this surgery makes u appreciate good taste, especially when your body can only allow u to eat so little of it. -
Love and hate my sleeve tonight
Carlotta1 replied to BlessedBeyondMeasure2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good that after so many months your sleeve is guiding u to make good decisions. Congrats on your weight loss thus far. I love your recent after pic.. U r so cute I also like the idea of snuggling with a warm hubby. -
Great that u went through the process and on the other side of the fence. Keep us posted on your progress. We would like to hear from u. Do u have any support groups in your area for those who had the sleeve.

HELP.. I need advise to get back on track!
Carlotta1 replied to jenn298's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh.. So sad to hear that u are gong through so much in your life. I know what stress and grief can do to our well being. Grief takes time. I lost a husband and it took me two years just to get out of grief. Don't be hard on yourself. But if you are ready to make good choices to continue on your weight loss journey I would suggest to find where u are at ..at this moment. Weigh yourself.. But be wiling to forgive yourself if u don't like what u see on the scale. You are going through difficult times and the worse thing for u to do is to get totally disappointed and throw in the towel. Then put in place a plan of action. Go back to basics, eating high protein first, eating slow , etc. join wls support groups, visit a nutritionist, . See a psychologist who can help u with your grief, stressors. You can do it. Just put one step in front of another. -
Shrimp is one of the most diificult seafood to eat after surgery. I love shrimp..but was on my last phase of eating...lifetime. So I have curtailed trying this. But u may have better luck than me..

Yo look no confident and beautiful. Keep up the success. -
I am so tired of purée foods. As a matter of fact..I normally get a shake from smoothly king ..45 grams of protein.. Aprox 300 calories. I sip on this in about 3-4 hours. When I try to eat soft foods , not purée, it does not work...I regurgitate too much. I am not taking in enough calories, water, or my vitamins. I ann finally tolerating water. But can only drink one glass a day. I am finally tolerating my vitamins, nioxin ..is this normal for 3 weeks out. Am I expecting too much recovery , too soon. In the afternoon, I am so, so tired. I have never felt this in my life. Is this temporary.? This is scaring me. Is this all normal.

I agree.. Start now , not tomorrow. Is smoking cessation due to the risk of surgery. . I don't smoke so if don't know smoking protocol.

I personally would wait. You don't want anything to jeopardize your healing. My dr specifically said no pool or jacuzzi for me during my one week post op appt. I go Tuesday to a one month follow up.. I will ask then cause like u..I would like to go in the jacuzzi and hot pool ...

Being 50-70 pounds overweight can be hard on your body just as much as 100+. I had the surgery cause I had exhausted all avenues.. And as someone who is older than 50..the weight issue was getting worse as time went on. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea. You need to assess where you are with your weight journey. And only you can make the right decision, along with a supportive family and doctor.

Omg.. I love, love love. Chai tea latte with skim milk. I have not had one since my surgery which.is exactly 4 weeks from tomorrow. Unfortunately the chai tea mix they use has sugar..don't know how much.. But I am sure a treat every once in a while would be ok. I plan to visit my Starbucks and inquire about the sugar grams on the 3 pump serving g for a small chai tea latte., I tried the chai bags in skim milk .. I did not like it. Too weak of a flavor. Let me know what u find out...

Over 3 weeks and still on purée.
Carlotta1 replied to Carlotta1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to all who posted on my concerns three weeks out. Evidently we all have the basic issues . -
Ok..I am about 18 days out and still need to be on purée diet. No soft foods for me, body cannot tolerate it. So I have been going to smoothie king and getting a small gladiator high protein shake, strawberry flavor, I have them add a 1/2 banana and pineapple to shake. I love the shake..it has 40 grams of protein. Natural sugar that is in banana and pineapple only .. I sip on the protein drink for about 2 hours .. Goes down really well.. And is so cool to drink. Has anyone else tried protein shakes from smoothie king? Comments would be appreciated.

One year out.... maintaining... but fearful of gaining
Carlotta1 replied to TP70's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost a lot of weight several years ago. I am 5' 1" and weighed 140 back then. Some of my relatives said I lost too much weight. I was not even in my BMI range, under 25. I was very fit, and looked healthily. I know how u feel. I would tell those who thought I lost too much weight was that I am not even at a normal weight range according to published standards. So that would pacify them. As far as much u should weigh. If u like what u see in the mirror and feel healthily.. Then convince yourself that is where u need to be. Obsessing over the last 10 pounds u feel need to lose may not be worth it..and may even backfire. It is ultimately up to u where u want to land with your weight goal. Come to a point where u r content.. Otherwise you may have internal struggles to get to a number that causes u mental struggles and u may not see the big pic of how far u have come. -
How bad is the nausea?
Carlotta1 replied to SoCalMomOfFour's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nausea.. Ask for a patch right before surgery. It should last for about 3 days. Also changing eating plans ( phases) can cause nausea when u try new foods that your body is not ready for. -
I wanna guzzle down a bottle of water!
Carlotta1 replied to chanelle102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is one thing I really , really miss.. Chugging down water. I cannot tolerate plain water too much.. But I do get thirsty for water. Plain, cold water. -
Probably gonna tick some people off.......lol
Carlotta1 replied to pjackson0523's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Pjackson..I understood your message quite well.. I am surely not offended because I know what the "all or nothing mentality" does to someone who cannot enjoy one cookie and binges cause they were not " perfect " with their eating protocol. This " all or nothing attitude " is not sustainable.. -
What am i doing wrong?
Carlotta1 replied to Sabredy12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read many posts in the past about the same situation as u. Your body is adjusting.. Once it stabilizes.you will see a continuous drop..watch your salt intake. This can cause water weight gain. U may not want to weigh as much. I did have a little stall for several days ..so I just stopped weighing for several days. Then my weight loss was inching down again. -
2014 weight loss commercials.........bye bye!
Carlotta1 replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought of the same today when I saw a ww commercial. I was so exhausted with counting points...I was at my wits end with dieting. Felt absolutely defeated. Now ..just do the eating protocol.. And it will all fall into place. Yeah.
