    The Holidays

My birthday was last week.. I told my family no cake or sweets for me, please ..and they. abided..we had a wonderful celebration without a dessert. I was a sugarholic prior to my surgery and I vow not to go there post op. I totally understand sweet cravings. If I want something sweet.. I try to stick to jello Sugar free choc pudding , jello, or Popsicle. Something refreshing. That is so good u maintained your weight with al the sweets around u. Seems as though u r getting back in track to continue your healthly lie. Good for u.

    Surgery tomorrow

Congrats on your surgery tomorrow. Wow u have first hand knowledge of what the surgery really entails. Make sure u rest in weeks to come. I was sort of week for some time. I now take a nap everyda, that I did not do prior to surgery. Just be patient with the process. It will reek time to go through the eating phases. Don't rush thin. The food that you cannot have in the first 3 eating phases will be there for u ..like chicken, beef, veggies, fruits.
  3. I am 5 weeks and can barely do chicken.. Chicken is too hard for 3 weeks out for your stomach to digest. And also the BBQ sauce is too rich..probably a little too spicy. I can eat very little chicken.. Just started yesterday. My nut said to cut it up in pea size and chew it slowly and thoroughly . I did good the first time I ate chicken.. But that night I tried again and I regurgitated it. Probably did not break it down enough. It is trial time for us.
  4. Sounds as though u are low on potassium..drink Gatorade and fluids.. This may be caused by dehydration.your electrolytes may be out of balance. However, check with your dr if it persists. Eating bananas also helps with lowpotassium .
  5. My hubby was with me most of the time. He was scared during my surgery that took 4 hours. I had the lapband removed as well. .. But we were told it would take this long ahead of time. He took the day off.. I did not need much help once I got home. However, I did have my daughter with me the 2nd day home as my dr suggested just in case.

    Co-workers

Tell them u eat 4-5 meals a day.. But small portions.
  9. I cut my food small and try to eat slow..( which is a challenge for me) ..I feel that something is scratching my esophagus when I eat. And feels heavy in my throat. The way my bod tells me I am about to reach my 2-3 oz is I start to burp ..then a few minutes..hiccups. So I stop... Today is the first day I ate dark chicken.. Yeah .and it stayed down.
  10. Well..u and I just hit 60 just recently ..swell. The way I look at it.. My goal is to live to a healthy 100 years old. So I have many years yo go. I feel like 35 and act it also. So think of 60 as years that got us to where we are today.. Especially with u looking fab and healthy., I have been given 60 years thus far and I am proud yo say I am 60.. Many people do not get this chance. I will try to live the rest of my days one day at a time, enjoy each day to the fullest and thank god for each. So proudgrammy be proud of your 60 year old self

You look fit as well.. Great !

    Failure!

It took me three weeks to lose 3 pounds.. Don't despair. It will get better as time goes by. Or body is still adjusting.. And we may not be fast losers.. Which is ok for me. The worst thing we can do is panic and sabotage ourselves. Do u go to a bariatric support group? Talk to a nutritionist, your dr that performed the surgery, .. Bump up exercising.. Make sure u don't take in too little calories like I was doing ..there r so many factors that affect our pace.
  14. If your family won't support u.then a close friend should do. I would suggest u have someone see to check on you the first day at home. Good luck. And this is for u...no one else.. So don't think u have to justify yourself to anyone. Most of us struggled for years ..the critics did not walk in our shoes.

    100 lbs!

Congrats on our 100 proud weight loss. Just for your info.. Cruise ships have wonderful exercise and spa service. So u may to indulge yourself with these things .
  16. The sleeve surgery has definitely curbed my appetite. I used to think about food the moment I wake up to the time I went to bed. Would vow everyday to start a new diet. But like u, by noon, I would give up. It is that deprivation , ot all or nothing mentality, that locks us.. Is a pre diet really necessary? . I did not have to do a pre op diet. However, at my initial dr appt I weighed 215. , at surgery date.. 205. I am 5'1. I lost the 10 pounds by cutting back. I was not at that point to give up my food pre surgery. Now I font have a choice since many thigs does not agree with me and I am most of the time, Not Hungry.

    Well here goes nothin!

    Good vibes your way.
  19. I think like Noor1969.. Everything in moderation, based on eating 3-4 meals a day, 1/2 Cup. My dr says high protein low carb.. I say protein, carb, fat ..I went on a low carb , high protein diet.. MEDIFASt. Many years ago..Lost it quickly but put back the weight on faster. Their take on high protein is that it will preserve your muscle mass.

    Slider foods?

I am 5 weeks post op and do better with only soft foods.. Otherwise I throw up my food if it slightly dense. Just taking me more time than others. Measure your portions.. And stick to it. I do well with baked potatoe with light cheese. But I know I can't have more than 1/2 cup.

    Vitamins and protein :(

smoothie king gladiator with your choice of two fruits is my savior to get my Protein in. I sip on it for 3 hours. ..45 grams of whey protein isolate. I could stomach Vitamin drink I got from hospital.. I chew fruit gummy for multi Vitamins, 3 Caramel calcium chewiness , Iron with Vitamin C chewable that taste like a mild sand tart, and take a vitamin b12 shot once a month. I can now keep down smaller pills..like my high blood pressure and my lexapro.
  23. I was scared too.. It is normal to feel that way. Keep your body and mind busy in the meantime. Ps I did ask for a relaxer when I got to the hospital since my doctor was delayed for 2 hours with my surgery.

    6 days post op

Yes I do feel weak at times, especially the first few weeks post op. Just hang in there. I went on a trail hike yesterday and walked two miles. I did bring a string cheese to eat long the way for additional energy.
  25. Yasmin ..does the hospital that you are planning on having the surgery have monthly meetings( support groups , information meetings, etc) that u can attend for several months so that u can make an informative decision what is best for u. A Center of Excellence hospital usually have plenty of resources. I am sure the is one in within your reach. You deserve to go to the best dr and hospital. So take your time in researching the better dr, hospitals, and after care support systems. This is very important to your success. The hospital I had surgery provides weekly psycological support groups, monthly support groups for patients who are curious or has the surgery. I received a manual before my syrgery on what to expect..before, during and after surery. The eating protocol for each stage after post op was well degined and detailed. As a young lady..you have your whole life ahead of you. This is the time for change. But only u can determine how you begin to live a healthly life. Try not to dwell on the number of pounds that u have to lose. I myself was overwhelmed..however you have to start taking steps to get where u want to be. And don't give up. I was afraid to have the sleeve. I vacillated back and forth whether I should have the surgery. Whether I was truly ready to give up food as my friend, my companion. Whether i should trust the procedure to take me where I want to be health wise. After much contemplation..I went for it. Even though I am only 5 weeks post op. I see a change in my relationship with food already and have lost almost 30 pounds thus far. All of us on this website want to see you succeed. So please do your homework..ask questions, make sure u have good resources and determine if the sleeve is right for u. If u do decide the sleeve is right for u.. Sleevers on this sight will be here for u.. Pre and post surgery.
